  1. We talk about Jeter and Ortiz for MVP, how about Frank Thomas. He is undoubtedly the main reason the A's are in first place in the AL West. He is carrying that team and has been for over a month now. Adjusting his number of at bats to equal Ortiz and his AB to HR ratio, he would trail Papi by two homers right now and adjusting his AB to RBI he would have 130 right now. He is definitely the comeback player of the year in the AL and IMO deserves serious consideration for MVP along with Ortiz, Mauer, Morneau and Dye.
  2. I think Morneau along with Mauer have carried that team all season. No one expected Morneau to have this type of year, he was still supposed to be developing. Dye, while I can't argue his numbers, he gets a lot of protection in that lineup with Thome and Konerko. I still have a problem with pitchers winning MVP awards. Jeter has had a good year offensively, but his lack of power numbers should eliminate him from the MVP race. I tend to agree that the media hypes a Yankee being in the MVP race because they play in New York. Johnny Damon has had a career year in NY even though he has missed quite a few games due to injuries. The one to watch I think next year is Cano on that team, he is really coming into his own. Nice to see a homegrown kid exceeding expectations.
  3. MOST Valuable Player - I don't think Jeter should win the MVP this year and I don't think Ortiz should win it, or Dye. Here's why, I believe a player who performed well above expectations for a club that is in a position to win their division or grab the wild card, when no one expected them to, should be the MVP. My vote goes to Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins.
  4. Interesting coincidence that Tatis came over to the Cardinals in 1998 and then had that monster year in 1999. His decline seems to coincide with the decline of another "great" Cardinal at the time, what was his name, oh yeah - McGwire.
  5. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this headcase as a starter for the Red Sox in 07, I expect he wouldn't make it out of May 07 without doing something stupid to get himself suspended.
  6. And with only a 615 game difference between his number of career starts and his overall appearances this is a valid stat?
  7. Ortiz deserves serious consideration for MVP along with several others: Mauer, Morneau, Dye, Jeter. As for Papi's "lack of class", it's quite uncharacteristic of him, maybe he gets a bonus for winning the award, I don't know what else could motivate him to make those comments. Here's a link to Jeter's response: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2584168
  8. I think it would be a very hard sell to consider Tavarez' stock as high, and trying to deal him as a legitimate starter. He has never pitched more than 161 innings in a single season. You can put BBDOC in a g-string and call him a dancer but I don't think you will get anyone wanting a lap dance.
  9. Crunch While I agree Schmidt would be a nice addition to any contenders rotation, IMO him and Schilling may be the only two who can consistently go 7+ per game. Beckett hasn't lasted more than 6 innings in a start since July 24th. Now is the time you need the starters going deep to get the bullpen rested for the stretch run.
  10. Here's hoping his condition in nothing serious and that it can be controlled. While I hate what he has done to the Yankees in big situations, Papi is enjoyable to watch! Get well soon Papi.
  11. It's a F*cking BUSINESS!!! Objective of business owners, make money! How do you make money, you have to spend money to make money.
  12. Mets at Shea Stadium, believe their opponent was San Francisco in the early 1970's
  13. Yeah, you keep selecting those Sox players and you will get your ass kicked :-)
  14. Did you pick your 4 yet from the other rosters? I was gonna leave Manny unprotected, NOT!
  15. We all need to exchange e-mail addresses in case we get booted from here so we can join back up somewhere else. I'm really trying hard not to "respond" to some comments here, so far, so good.
  16. Maybe I could just have the two year old Boxer chase it around for awhile
  17. Wells I do not have any contact info for CZ, plus there was a request yesterday not to invite him or Hawk. Wonder why? Hey, did you get signed up yet on Yahoo for fantasy baseball?
  18. He definitely ran out of gas at the end last year. The WBC tune up with a month break though might be just enough to get him through the Summer, not sure about the Fall. Cat is to fat to spiral anymore
  19. Rosey good to see you too. I found that picture as a bmp but converted it to a jpg and posted it up here. Reminds me of what I feel like most evenings.
  20. I went to games at both Jerry Park and then the Olympic Stadium. Close parking, cheap tickets, great beer!
  21. Col He can play in the WBC, take a month off (April) then resign with the Stros after May 1. He should get about 5 or 6 less starts that way and may be a bit healthier come crunch time in September.
  22. Elsrbueno Jerry Park or the Olympic stadium, or both?
  23. We all know Wells' desire to finish his career on the left coast, but he is under contract with the Sox and IMHO is a valuable piece to a successful starting rotation this year. He was arguably the best starting pitcher on that staff last season and the Sox should hold on to him as opposed to trading him for something they don't really need just to make him happy.
