  1. Congrats Sox, you put it together when you had to and now get to compete for the ultimate prize. I'm glad you're in the WS, I couldn't bear the thought anymore of all of those 3 year olds in New England who have never had the pleasure of seeing the Red Sox win the championship.
  2. Torre had no problem cashing the $19.2M in checks the last three years, in return what did he bring back to the organization, this after getting completely outmanaged and outplayed by Francona ($2M) and the Red Sox in 04. Joe was lucky he was given that extension at that time, many managers would have been let go after that ALCS performance of 04. Baseball is a business - this particular company invests more in their payroll than any other team and expects results. Those results go directly to the bottom line of the company. More games played, more championships won, more revenue for the company. Incentive laden contracts are nothing new in baseball, so why is it such a big deal for a manager - it's simple - produce and you will be rewarded. Thanks Joe for the 12 years and 4 championships, but you have run your course in the company, it's time for a new employee.
  3. Pardon me, it should have stated 3 games
  4. I agree with Tito's rationale on this. If you pitch Beckett tonight you have to come back with Schilling tomorrow night. The extra rest you give Schilling can only help. He's not so young anymore. In addition, Dice-K appears to be spent both physically and mentally. He threw over 100 pitches last night. He can use the rest. If you were to throw Beckett tonight against Byrd and lose, you then have Schilling and Dice-K left to match-up against Cleveland's two big guns. If you win tonight with Wakefield, you have the match-ups you want in a tied series. Also, consider this. If you go with Beckett tonight he could pitch two more games if necessary in the ALCS. If you win the ALCS with Beckett getting 4 starts, how tired will he be for the WS.
  5. Doc, I have to disagree. A team that leads MLB in runs, Hits, OBP, SLG, AVG and RBI, that is 4th overall and 1st in the AL in HRs does not need to rebuild. Slowly infusing the young talent like they did this year with Duncan and last year with Cabrera is the way to go. These guys get some major league experience and will be ready to take over when the vets depart. The problem with the Yankees is PITCHING!!! They rely on washed up vets and have no one to properly manage the growth of their young talent. Guidry is not up to the task and although I appreciate all Joe has done, he cannot manage a pitching staff or bullpen. While I personally do not care for LaRussa, I also cannot deny the job he and Duncan have done with young pitchers in St. Louis (except Ankiel). They may be the best answer for the Yankees going forward.
  6. Okay - just to catch up on the last couple of years or so: ARod is a purse carrying, dick sucking, bitch slapping, purple lipped bitch who now would be welcomed with open arms in Boston. Am I close?
  7. This about sums it up for me: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7318254?MSNHPHMA
  8. Das I understand your point of view, but the Guardians have primarily built their team from within the organization and sprinkled in a few "low cost" veterans. They have been extremely successful in locking up their young talent to multi-year contracts and hometown discounts. They are now seeing the results of those efforts. The question is can they continue to be successful in the AL Central over the next few seasons as the contracts of their superstars start to expire and begin looking elsewhere for the $$$.
  9. When agents like Boras inflate salaries to ridiculous amounts though, the game suffers. Small market teams can't compete year after year. Attendance suffers in those markets. What is A-Rod's value - whatever someone will pay - that's great except only a handful of the teams in existence can afford it. Revenues from postseason play only make it into the pockets of a few teams. I understand baseball is a business, but there also has to be a line drawn somewhere when running that business starts to hinder the enjoyment of the sport for the fans.
  10. When Rodriguez arrived at spring training, he was coy when asked about his contract. "I understand I have an option, but I also understand that I want to be a New York Yankee," he said, going on to add: "My goal is to go in with Derek and Mo and open the new stadium." If this statement were true, why would Boras basically state the opposite now regarding A-Rod. Oh yeah, Boras is an asshalf !! Boras controls what A-Rod does, not A-Rod. While he is without a doubt the best player in the game today, I do not believe he plays for the love of the game, he's purely about the $$$$ and he has the perfect agent for that mentality.
  11. If I were GS for an off-season, the 2008 Yankees would look like this: 1B - Minky, Duncan and Betemit 2B - Cano, Betemit SS - Jeter 3B - ARod, Betemit C - Posada, Molina LF - Cabrera, Damon CF - Torii Hunter RF - Abreu DH - Matsui, Duncan, Betemit, Damon (Notice no mention of Giambi) SPs: Pettite Wang Chamberlain Hughes Kennedy Pen: Mo Ohlendorff Sanchez Veras Rasner Wright Manager: 1. Joe Girardi 2. Tony LaRussa (I personally can't stand him, but he made "winners" out of the Cardinals) Pitching Coach: Dave Duncan (made easier if they get Larussa) Oh yeah, most importantly GM: Gene Michael
  12. Whatever you say PC;) Don't they make glass from sand?? Not much new out here in St. Louis. Disappointed (again) the Yanks lost, but glad someone will soon be crowned World Champs and it won't be the Cardinals. People out here really believe they "won" the world series last year!!
  13. Okay, song parodies, nice - this from a guy who is butt f***ing a sand sculpture in his avatar. How ya been PC BronxBomber
  14. congrats to the Sox - they showed up to play when it matters most. s***, even J.D. Drew had a few RBIs in the ALDS. Good luck the rest of the way.
  15. I can't see dealing Cano under any circumstances. This kid is all-star material for years to come. As for dealing the youth for Santana, no way. It's George running the team all over again. The Yanks need one front line starting pitcher and some more heart in the post season. How can a team put up nearly 1000 runs in the regular season and slump so badly year after year in the playoffs? Wang needs to stick with his sinker and stop trying to overpower guys with a belt high fastball when he has two strikes on them. He's not a power pitcher, so don't try to pitch like a power pitcher. Again, Guidry needs to go, he's not the answer for a pitching coach.
  16. I don't see Pettite coming back, with Torre being dismissed and Mussina, IMHO, has shown he can no longer compete in the AL East over a 162 game season. Sign Posada to a one year deal, realize that Johnny Damon's bat is valuable, but his arm is shot, put Giambi out of his misery and go and get a 1B who can hit, don't even think about including Cano in any trade talks, and go find a pitching coach who actually knows how to evaluate a starter's health. It is totally inexcusable for Guidry to not have known that Clemens was not ready and that Wang was not ready for their ALDS starts, while Hughes was ready and able.
  17. ANA/BOS CLE/NYY COL/PHI ARI/CHI ALCS NLCS WS TB #1 TB #2 ANA CLE PHI ARI CLE PHI PHI 6 Rollins
  18. One piece of the puzzle here will be the health of Humberto Sanchez. If he returns healthy next Spring from TJ surgery, he would most likely be inserted into a starter role. He has more experience than Joba and some nasty stuff. His availability would also allow the Yankees some flexibility in any trades for a top starter by being able to offer one of their other young prospect pitchers.
  19. Why is Tito not resting Ortiz and Pedroia at this point - getting ready for the playoffs. Does it really matter to him that the Sox clinch the division over the health of these guys in the post season? Seems to contradict his approach last week when it appeared he would start resting some guys.
