  1. While the free agent market for pitchers next season will be thin, I think we have to wait and see what the Yankees do in the off-season before you can make a guess as to Joba's status next year. If the Yanks for instance picked up Joe Nathan, he could be that bridge to the closer and Joba could be a starter. Personally, I would like to see Joba stay in the bullpen at least one more season. He has a lot to offer and IMHO will only get better with his off-speed stuff.
  2. Will this be the new president's first order of business: http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/Rackman/2007/09/27/It_Just_Doesnt_Ring_True I say, what the hell - give it to them with an asterisk - the ring can be displayed in the HOF next to Barry's record breaking HR ball
  3. This just in: NEW YORK (AP) - Umpire Mike Winters was suspended by Major League Baseball for the remainder of the regular season on Wednesday because of his confrontation with San Diego's Milton Bradley last weekend. The Padres claimed Winters baited Bradley, who has a history of losing his temper. Bradley tore a knee ligament when his manager spun him to the ground while trying to keep him from going after the umpire during Sunday's 7-3 loss to Colorado in San Diego. this is interesting because Winters is on Bruce Froemmings crew. Froemming and his crew are scheduled to call the series in Milwaukee between the Brewers and Padres to close out the season, as a farewell to Froemming who is retiring and happens to be from Milwaukee.
  4. ORS - I hear what you're saying - but it makes me wonder about that MFYF in full Jeter regalia - is he a Yankee fan or a Jeter fan? See, I believe there are fans of the name on the front of the jersey and fans of the name on the back of the jersey, in either case they should be able to show up at any game, anywhere in any regalia and not expect to be the "lightning bolt" for childish chants. I live in an NL city and see folks at the games in AL jerseys, what I don't see and hear are the local fans breaking into "XXX sucks" chants because of it.
  5. He can take Jose Offerman's spot on the Long Island Ducks next season!
  6. No, I like jokes - you must have a sense of humor to work for the government. I'm a computer systems analyst
  7. Wow - Gagne's in - he's a f***ing stud - AGAINST the DEVIL RAYS:lol:
  8. 6 men LOB by Crisp tonight on 2K's - you guys need Manny back in a bad way so you can move Ellsbury to CF!!
  9. Navarro must still be pissed the Yanks traded him away - he's trying to single handedly give this one to the Sox
  10. http://bestsmileys.com/kissing1/1.gif
  11. Who cares what he looks like as long as he continues to dominate out of the pen the way he is. Ten years ago anyone here would have professed their undying allegiance to Gom if they could have had Randy (the scarecrow) Johnson on their staff!
  12. The MLB schedulers could have precluded all of this with a little forethought, but that would be asking to much of Selig's staff. Who cares, the Yankees will play a "final" game in Yankee Stadium next year, whether it is in August or September or October, who cares, it will still be a final game in the stadium.
  13. Mienky defensively is, without question, the best option for the Yankees down the stretch, however, benching Matsui to get Molina in the line-up, I don't think so. Posada is the catcher, day in and day out, hands down, no comparison. Benching Melky - who plays centerfield, Damon? Cabrera has 14 assists this year, covers much more ground and has twice the arm of Damon. Again no comparison.
  14. WoW, Taliesin, we agree here!! Drew is a grown man, suck it up. He's the moron who hired Boras. He f***ed Philly when he was drafted, never lived up to his "5 tool" potential in St. Louis , chirped about how great it was going to be in Atlanta, his home state, and then abruptly opted out on the Dodgers. Yeah, a real class act Drew is. No passion for the game. Maybe if the fans gave Willy Mo a standing ovation he would have turned his offensive numbers around right. Give me a break.
  15. So BB pulls a Giambi and apoligizes for nothing in particular
  16. On my college soccer team we had a Jamaican dude who was faster than Roger Clemens exit from a post season pitching appearance. Anyways, when we had to run our 3 mile runs he would always finish well ahead of the rest of us. Coach told us one day that if the Jamaican beat us all in the next run we would keep running until he was tired. We put some Panther balm in his jock before the run and needless to say the Jamaican didn't finish the first quarter mile that day.
  17. Rumor has it that Raja plans to raid J.D. Drew's locker before the game and steal his vagisil.
  18. Lowell - having a career offensive year and picking up the slack when Ortiz and Manny were tanking earlier this season, not to mention covering for Nancy Drew not getting the job done in that lineup. A close second, Wakefield. Another solid season and at his age that is an MVP deserving performance.
  19. Ankiel had TJ surgery in July 2003. It's not hard to imagine a doctor prescribing HGH to help in the healing/recovery process. As of now, there is no source of information stating he received/used HGH after 2004. HGH did not become a banned substance in MLB until 2005.
  20. Wang's success is based on two factors - his groundball to flyball ratio and the lack of HR's that he gives up. Having said that, what's even more interesting is the fielding percentage ranks of his infield defense over the last two seasons: Cano - 2006 - ranked 9th in the AL 2007 - ranked 6th in the AL A-Rod - 2006 - ranked 11th in the AL 2007 - ranked 6th in the AL Jeter - 2006 - ranked 6th in the AL 2007 - ranked 5th in the AL Does Wang make these guys better on defense? Do these guys make Wang a better pitcher with their improved defense? Questions that may never be answered.
  21. This from a Yankees fan: Stupid move on the part of Joba, a 5 nothing game, the Red Sox bats are in storage somewhere and in the 9th inning of a shutout game you throw at somebody. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!!! Why give the Sox any emotion at this point. Don't wake a sleeping giant and right now the Sox are doing their best Rip Van Winkle impression. (d) Intentionally Pitch at the Batter. If, in the umpire’s judgment, such a violation occurs, the umpire may elect either to: 1. Expel the pitcher, or the manager and the pitcher, from the game, or 2. may warn the pitcher and the manager of both teams that another such pitch will result in the immediate expulsion of that pitcher (or a replacement) and the manager. If, in the umpire’s judgment, circumstances warrant, both teams may be officially “warned” prior to the game or at any time during the game. (League Presidents may take additional action under authority provided in Rule 9.05.) Rule 8.02(d) Comment: To pitch at a batter’s head is unsportsmanlike and highly dangerous. It should be—and is—condemned by everybody. Umpires should act without hesitation in enforcement of this rule
  22. What are the odds that Cano takes one in the head next at bat
