  1. Chamberlain will be called up for tonight's game. Karstens sent back down. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/08/07/2007-08-07_joba_to_arrive_in_yankee_hut-1.html
  2. WSox vs. Yanks over/under for today is 40. Anybody want in for over :-) And Clemens can't get the loss!!
  3. guess this puts the Kielty rumors to rest
  4. You can take the man out of the neighborhood but you can't take the neighborhood out of the man!! Regardless of how much you pay these "athletes" you can't correct their behavior with money. Major colleges put more value on making the NCAA tourneys/championships because of the $$ generated than they do on ensuring they are turning out well adjusted human beings with an education. Vick is just one in a long line of pro athletes who are to stupid to realize they have been given the chance of a lifetime only to succumb to their own stupidity. f*** Vick and any other prima donna who believes their star status makes them immune to society's standards of acceptable and humane behavior.
  5. Crunch Glad to see you haven't stopped speaking your mind! Kudos to you!!! As for Schilling, put a microphone in his or Gary Sheffield's face and you have instant self-gratification, usually at someone else's expense. Who made these two the spokesperson's for the MLB? It's great to have an opinion, but when you are paid like these guys are and have the celebrity status that they enjoy, you would think they would know when to shut up or make no comment about issues where they have no first hand facts. Funny when Curt earlier this year commented that he would have loved to have Clemens on the Red Sox and that he (Schilling) didn't need to be in the spotlight. If this were true why does he continue to put himself in the spotlight with his opinions in the media.
  6. Welcome back Jon Lester
  7. Dante Culpepper will be in Falcon black by the end of the week as Joey Harrington's backup. I agree that our judicial focus is a bit skewed when we look at the crime and punishment of animal abusers vs. human abusers. However, if Vick is guilty of these charges, he is one sick SOB who does not deserve to be playing in the NFL.
  8. Let me start by saying, I'm not an A-rod fan, never have been, never will be. His actions as noted in this thread are questionable at best and dirty at worst, however, with the state of the game today (steroids, alcohol abuse, altered bats, etc., etc.) how much integrity can you really expect the players to have. MLB has made a mockery of the term sportsmanship with their lack of action and some players continue to exploit this lack of integrity.
  9. Dustin who? Welcome to the big leagues kid
  10. February 2005, comments from Jason Giambi: "There's been a lot of distraction, definitely, over the last year, and I'm sorry for that, I really am," Giambi said. "I feel I let down the fans, I feel I let down the media, I feel I let down the Yankees -- not only the Yankees, but my teammates. "I accept full responsibility for that," he went on. "I'm sorry, but I'm trying to go forward now. Most of all, to the fans, I'm sorry. I know it's going to be hard, and I understand how they feel."
  11. The Yanks budgeted (I know Yanks and budget are an oxymoron) $25.5 M for Clemens coming out of Spring Training. They ended up paying $28M prorated ($18M actual + luxury tax). Will Clemens be the savior in NY this year, no, will he improve the rotation, definitely. With their offense and run support Clemens should flourish there this year, if the bullpen can hold a lead. I just have to add, it is humorous read all of these postings and watch the salary number go anywhere from $18M to $35M
  12. They would need some power from the right side, and talent wise he is one of if not the best in the game. I just don't see Boras convincing him to stay in New York after this season. He will be the highest paid player in the game regardless of where he plays. the Yankees have many positions they will need to start addressing over the next few years, they are not getting any younger.
  13. Animal You make good points regarding the series this weekend and while there's no argument the Sox starting pitching is much better than the Yankees, you have to give some credence to the offensive production by the two teams this season to date. Comparisons: Yankees Sox Runs 91 68 Hits 144 114 HR 20 12 TB 225 181 RBI 89 61 And the Yankees have a decided edge in BA, OBP, SLG and OPS. When you look at the pitching staffs they have faced so far the Yankees have faced the 2nd, 6th, 9th, 11th and 14th best staffs in the AL and Boston has faced the 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th and 13th best staffs in the AL so far. Nearly a push I would say which suredly gives the Yankees a big edge in offense this weekend. I know, I know, pitching wins championships, but this Yankee offense can't be overlooked.
  14. Please stop comparing A-rod with Jeter. Jeter is not a power hitter. He gets his 200+ hits per year but is not and has not been relied upon to produce the power numbers for the Yankees.
  15. Gom A lot of folks said Drew would not get more money than what the Dodgers were paying him. As far as the Cubs go, Aramis Ramirez is not a factor, ARod would go back to shortstop. Also, I'm not a Red Sox fan, I'm a Yankee fan and not an A-Rod fan. I give him all the props for the numbers he puts up, but I just don't like the drama that surrounds him. Would rather have a gamer at third base who puts up half of ARods numbers. That $16M a year the Yankees are paying him would go a long way in securing some starting pitching. The Rangers are on the hook for the $6M difference in his $22.7M he's receiving this year.
  16. It was nearly a done deal before the Yankees signed him. There are only two teams besides the Yankees that would pay him the money Boras will be seeking, the Cubs and Red Sox.
  17. Crunch When the **** opts out of his Yankee contract after the season and the Sox enter the bidding war for his services, will he be welcomed with open arms on Yawkey Way? :dunno:
  18. The Yankees drew 40,872 yesterday for a day game, against Cleveland, while most other stadiums were struggling to hit 20,000. The average attendance at Yankee Stadium thusfar this year is 47,010. It's a 57,000 + seating capacity stadium, I think you would tend to notice empty seats more in a stadium of this size as opposed to stadiums that only hold 38,000.
  19. Actually Mo blew the game yesterday. He tubed an 0-2 pitch to power hitting Marco Scutaro (.095 BA) who buried it for a 3 run homer. Very uncharasteric of Mo. The starting pitching is in shambles, good thing it's only April.
  20. Dice-K certainly lived up to his billing yesterday. Dominant from start to finish. Not sure if the Sox bats were idled yesterday by the weather or by Greinke's pitching. It was interesting to see Dice-K pitch finally and I do feel sorry for Veritek, how the hell do you call a game when your pitcher has five solid pitches and will throw any one of them at any count on a hitter. It is going to be interesting to watch him pitch this year and see how hitters try to adjust against him. I was a bit surprised that they let him cross the 100 pitch mark yesterday though considering how cold it was.
  21. It's April and he's 40+ years old - he'll settle into his usual self and have a very good year.
  22. It didn't take long for the jokes to start: Be the first in your neighborhood to sport the new Tony LaRussa authentic jersey http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y14/bronxbomber_1/larussa.jpg
  23. Thanks Mike Nifong for your insightful thoughts.
