  1. I think Beckett's health will always be a question as long as he is susceptible to blisters on his pitching hand. It limits his ability to throw certain pitches and makes him predictable. That's not a good formula for success, especially with the hitters in the AL East.
  2. Crunch This whole comparison of Wang and Beckett is ridiculous. It all started with some folks on here wanting to raise Beckett up and proclaim he was a legitimate #1 or #2 in the AL East. ********!! You know it and I know it. His numbers don't support it, his trips to the DL don't support it and that blister thing, well if it keeps him from being able to throw that monster curve and hitters sit on his fastball ........
  3. The Yanks should have addressed the Mo extension a long time ago, especially in light of not signing Bernie. There still are, believe it or not, some Yankee fans who believe in taking care of those who have done so much to make the team successful. Mo certainly leads that cast. As for Bernie, I hate to see him go, but by the same token, I understand the direction the Yankees are headed in and his skills at this point do not mesh with that direction. It would be great if he retired a Yankee and took a position with the organization in the development of the minor league outfielders.
  4. Actually, it fits this discussion perfectly. It has nothing to do with what they will do this season, much like a lot of the items that have been offered throughout this and other discussions regarding Beckett. Many here believe his magical mystery tour in the Bronx in 2003 somehow raised Beckett to greatness when in fact he pitched his ass off for one game, period! Take into account his 10 trips to the DL in 5 years, his never having pitched 200 innings in a season prior to coming to Boston, his gopher ball servings last year, the fact that he was traded for the NL ROY and a guy who pitched a no-no last year speaks volumes. My point here is, don't compare Beckett and Wang, it's like comparing apples and oranges. The Sox could have 8 Wang's for the price of Beckett which would have accounted for 24 more wins for the Sox and an AL East Pennant.
  5. Here's some numbers that haven't been mentioned in the comparison of Beckett and Wang. $4.3M - Beckett's 2006 salary $353,000 - Wang's 2006 salary Nuf Ced (borrowed )
  6. I'll be looking for your on-site analysis at the end of March. If you want to see the 2007 AL East Champs in ST, take a trip over to Legends Field.
  7. 2003, jeez Crunch, you expect me to remember 2003, hell it's hard enough to remember what I had for supper last night. As for Beckett, nobody is saying he is not serviceable, but to believe he will consistently put up 200 innings per year and is a solid #1 or #2 (true #1 or #2, not just his place in the order because of those around him) is unfounded. His stats don't support it.
  8. I'm still waiting for somebody to substantiate, with facts and stats, Josh Beckett's status as a solid #1 or #2 starter in the AL East.
  9. Tavarez is a water cooler away from the DL. You keep stating Beckett had a bad year last year and will only get better. What is this based on? His NL numbers? The game of his life against the Yankees in the 2003 WS? Other than that he is nothing spectacular. He's a slightly better than .500 pitcher. 57-45 lifetime.
  10. I still fail to see the "greatness" in Beckett. A #1 or #2, not in the AL East. He has pitched 200 or more innings only once in his career, that was last year. Along with those innings pitched his ERA ballooned, number of hits allowed increased significantly and his SO ratio took a nosedive. As for the current starting 5 pitching 1000 innings, I don't see how that could happen. The Sox rotation if solid, but by no means is better than the Tigers and maybe even a little short of Anaheim's.
  11. C'mon now, that's a lame argument. Manny also gets paid $5M more per season than Helton. Based on your logic I could counter with the field dimensions: Fenway: RF - 302, LF - 315 Coors: RF - 318, LF - 315 (Adjusted for altitude figures, actual dimensions are deeper) My point simply is, the Sox franchise player is Manny, the Rockies franchise player is Helton. Both GM's are unwilling to trade their franchise player for run of the mill (in Lowell's case declining skills) type players. The Rockies have a plethora of young talent getting ready to break into the Major Leagues. They would love to dump Helton's salary (despite what their GM says), but not at the cost of declining attendance and disgruntled fans. He has to give the fans and Helton's teammates something in return for Helton. Lowell and Tavarez do not measure up to that commitment. Theo on the other hand knows the impact of trading away your young talent and is unwilling to repeat that mistake.
  12. Nation How is the Colorado GM's thinking any different than Theo's when he was shopping Manny? He stated many times that Manny would have to bring top tier players/prospects and his annual contract is higher than Helton's.
  13. That may have cost him a few $Million - no other bidders to war with.
  14. the coaches carry those red flags for a reason. It wasn't challenged. Does that mean Belichek also believed the call was a good call.
  15. Sean, C'mon now, not all things from Canada are useless: http://www.dougflutie2.com/index.cfm/pk/view/cd/NAA/cdid/400680/pid/400032
  16. Makes no difference if they score a touchdown or kick a FG if they only need 3 points to win. Important thing is, he put them in the position to win the game.
  17. Jackson If Johan is 5-15 at the AS break in 07, I will call the Farrelly boys and have them begin taping the sequel to Fever Pitch and make a cameo appearance double penetrating Cali Linda (along with Big Papi) on the mound in Fenway, while wearing nothing but my Jeter jersey. The movie will then be called Fever Bitch.
  18. Brady has orchestrated 22 game-wining drives to break a tie or take the lead in the fourth quarter or overtime. Six of his game-winning efforts have come in postseason.
  19. Hey, Welcome. Just wanted to let everyone know, I'm a future polygamist and in the not to distant future all children born in the midwest will be fathered by me.
  20. Besides Henry and Co. won't add on to the clubhouse to accomodate Bonds' entourage. The guy travels with more roadies than any rock band.
