Marquis will be effective in that vast stadium, hes good enuff for 15 wins in that league. Is the savior coming up this year or do they have him on a pitch count in some foreign land while seeing if he can handle the AAA kids 1st? Strasbourg will bring the fans out at least.

In 2006 he had 90ks in 276ab's, 11HRS and 42RBI from a guy who swung himself into the dirt each pitch he hacked at, he had 26 xtra base hits in 276 ab's,those arent good #s for a power hitter. I dont see any reason for the love here... He was just the exact opposite of our offensive philosophy of plate patience and you have to ask why he never got consistant playing time even while playing with last place teams who had s***** attendence.. Beckett pitched all thru 2006, in fact didnt he lead the AL in homeruns given up that year? He looked a lot like Eric Milton in 2006 and we knew Schill was banged up and that Clement was inconsistant in the 2nd half of 05 and we also knew David Wells was 48 years old. Thats not the time to dump a 200ip guy for a pinch hitter unless you just wanted that guy out of town. Matt Clement had a good start in 2005 and made the allstar team, after that he turned into Claude Raines and was invisible for the rest of his sox career.... Another career .500 pitcher that just wasnt good enuff for the AL East... The end results for Pena are 476ab 16hr 59 rbi .271 .328 obp and slugged at .451. This is in the lineup that had the best 3/4 combo since Ruth and Gherig, he saw good pitches to hit but was always a sure out against anyone with any kind of decent stuff...I think Theo thought he may have gotten himself a Vlad Guererro type of hitter but guys who can hit a 98 mph eye high fastball or a down and out change up 3 feet outside are few and far between.... If he couldve played even mediocre defense I think they keep him around but he couldnt and again, due to his failure to develop after the age of 17 he is now out of MLB baseball and if he is playing hes doing it for Peso's in Mexico. If the NL had a DH I think Pena may have had some 30Hr years, theres no disputing his raw power but his plate discipline and fielding just werent good enough to hang around MLB.

Jason Schmidt was my guy, before he took the last 3 years off he was pitching tremendous in LA with great velocity, power pitchers can make the adjustment a lot better than the soft tossers and Schmidt was a guy I followed closely, roids?? I dont know but i am looking forward to Kato Matsusaka to pitch like a big boy this season, how would he look in Seattle or SanDiego?

This is an odd thread but I'll throw my hat in here and tell you all that trading Arroyo for WMP was a f***ing disgrace and further evidence that this team doesnt like anything that doesnt resemble the IBM look...I dont know if Theo was jealous of Arroyos hair or his grundge rocking abilities but I do know that Arroyos thrown a ton of innings in Cincinatti and wouldve been a consistant 5th starter. Arroyo made out on the deal, he got 30M after his great start but since then hes been very average pitching in that bandbox....

Its only a matter of time before the bloated and aging Sabbathias knees cave in on him. 6'7 350 and 1250 huge innings in 5 years isnt going to last, physically speaking it simply cant happen. then what?..Andy Petitte again and again?? You best hope that either Joba or Phil Hughes assumes a pivotal role in that rotation and soon because father time gets everyone eventually and Sabbathia is just the kind of guy thats going to disappear into the good night when that load of blubber finally takes its toll.

This signing opens up some oppurtunity for dealing the youngsters for a bat. Plus Lackey wont be sticking it up our asses in game 1 next October. The money no longer matters, i dont care about their bottom line. they have their bean counters and inspite of them having 19 owners to make happy this team is still a money making machine internationally and I've long been priced out of the park so they can spend away, raise prices and put up a f***ing toll booth on Brookline Ave and I could give a f*** less. Now we need Dice to perform as expected and away we go with the best staff in the game, again. It doesnt solve our power shortage but perhaps the Cameron signing will instigate a new offensive philosophy that they shouldve undertook the day the paid the Dodgers 7M to take Manny off their hands. A little more defense,a lot more speed and a grizzled vet who is hard as a rock. Im impressed Theo pulled this off but if you slap anyone in the face with enuff Benjamins you'll get their attention....

As recently as 1995 you could walk into any game the sox were playing at 630pm and get a ticket, the yankee weekend and friday evening games were the only exception...Now after 7 seasons of sellouts did anyone notice the price of playoff tickets on line? 80.00 for lower level bleacher seats were abundant for game 3....The sox didnt start drawing 2M a year steadily till Clemens came out of nowhere in 86 and won the Cy and MVP. The sox didnt start averaging 30K a season consistantly till 1999, the did have some 30K years sporadically after 86-99 but by and large they'd pull 28-29K a game thru the late 80s and 90s. The Royals used to be a good team, after the A's dynasty was purchased by Steinbrenner the A' won the AL West year in and year out with some dynamic offensive players and usually a good pitcher or 2 but since they won it all in 85 its been downhill ever since. Why are they rewarding the Royals with anything? 20 years of finishing last doesnt entitle you to s*** but the park they have is cute with its water fountains and vegetation growing out there...I simply dont understand the novelty of having an allstar game there, whats the purpose of playing in KC rather than St Louis for example?

Marco Scutaro is an improvement over Jed Lowrie and is offensively better than AGon but its difficult to get my gnads all pumped up over this move...Usually by my birthday they put something under my Xmas tree that makes December a bit more palatable, if this is the best they're going to do then its going to be a blue Xmas.

from Gaza Strip in Palestine ,,, I love red sox
Mr Crunchy replied to mordo devil's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
How are the beaches in Gaza? I prefer the carribean in the winter but the family is thinking a bit more exotic on our next excursion. -
What do you expect out of Uconn next year? Do you think theyre capable of winning the East or at least having a chance to compete for the big east title? Theres some decent competetion in Cincinnatti, Pitt West Va and Rutgers and who knows whats going to happen in Louisville, I think theyll come back up soon. They had their biggest win in program history this weekend against a team Im not sure 11 of us would have a hard time beating. The idea that Jimmy Clausen was heisman material is an embarassment to him, to the fans of Notre Dame and to the entire Heisman Committee.

I wouldve guessed NY 3 years ago but based on their disgraceful performances over the past few years and knowing what a front running **** Lebron is I doubt he goes there. If I had to bet Id say Lebron stays in Cleveland.

Phil Kessel wouldnt have hurt them out there last night. 65 shutout minutes along with a scoreless shoot out against the sisters of the poor in Miami is a f***ing disgrace. I understood that Kessel had been a pain in the ass since they drafted him and the Leafs maybe the worst team in the league this year which would give the Bs a shot at a stud...But what about this year? They had serious plans for this year but based on what we've seen so far they lack the punch on offense thats needed when they step up against the better teams.. Last night was a horror show, perhaps the most impudent performance offensively that Ive seen this club ever play. Its early November so nobody should be headed for the Zakim bridge just yet and they have had some injury issues but these guys arent producing at all and its reflective on their record..Tim Thomas stood on his head last night and had a great year last season but in the playoffs against Carolina he was awful.Im not sure if he was worn down or if he simply had the jitters but we'll need better play than that in net come spring time if we have any serious ambitions, if Carolina could starch him like that whats DC Pitt and Jersey going to do against him??
-
Id buy into this s*** if we werent paying JD Drew 75million f***ing dollars to be less effective than Nick Swisher...The game needs a cap yet as I say this 8 teams won pennants in the national league in the last 10 years and 6 AL teams won pennants in that same time frame, is this parity or what? The sox shouldnt bitch, in fact they should be the last team to bitch No its not fair, it never has been and it never will be until a cap is installed and once that happens the players union will go on strike and finally we can have the retraction we all have been begging for. The problem this time is that the oldest and most traditional franchises like the Reds and Pirates, teams that dont draw s*** or win anymore will be the teams gutted along with both Fla franchises and perhaps the Royals and DC. A cap would hurt the sox but not as much as it would hurt Ny.

Did you lay the 7.5 without fear? LSU was in that game till the end. Arkansas was blatantly f***ed by the refs in that Florida game and after that hit Tebow took against Kentucky, if Im coaching MSU on Saturday the 1st thing I do is jail break all my dbacks till someone KO's Tebow. lets see how good FLA's backup is, theyve been unbeatable with Tebow, time to try something else.

Venezuala is where Carlos Quintanas brother got shot and on the 75 mile ride the hospital the big Q drove off the road, broke his arm and never has been seen in Boston again. What happened to Urgeth Urbina?? Didnt he get sentenced to serious time for lighting someone on fire?? Theres been some strange s*** happening with pro ballplayers in Venezuala. Ive never been to Caracas but I do admire Simon Bolivar.

The NBA salary structure is so f***ing insane I saw Raef Lafrentz house that is some 100,000 square feet with livestock roaming his backyard, original art from Picasso and Van Gogh and a wife Id cut off a limb to bang...His indoor pool is bigger than my entire condo complex and the man sucks now, he sucked then and hes pretty much always sucked... When Atlanta gave John Konkak 7,000,000 a year I knew it was time to pay attention to college ball more closely.Rondo has the 2nd most triple doubles in Celtic playoff history I believe and hes still learning the game..His shooting will improve as it does with all these guys as they get older, if this guy can start nailing the 12-15 footer then hes going to be a top 5 point guard in this league. The boy is tuff, he can rebound, he is fearless going to the hole, he is a tremendous passer and he has 1 ring with more to follow, perhaps a few more to follow. Hes making 11M a year, didnt Scott f***ing Pollard make that kind of money, Lafrentz did for sure? They had an interesting write up yesterday about Rondo's contract and it seems the Celts feel they got f***ed and Rondo feels he got f***ed, take it for what its worth. the economist is from Southern Utah where poligamy is still rampant and when you swear at the guys from DACS because your system is down they have no idea what FIX IT YOU BLEEDING ********** means until you have your secretary translate the vernacular into Utah's no cursing English. http://blogs.wsj.com/dailyfix/2009/11/04/the-count-the-underpaid-rajon-rondo/ Rondo was a bust in Kentucky, played very well in the playoffs outside his mysterious disappearing act before a vital game last year for us but overall I like his effort and his toughness. Hes making more per week than Russell made in his career so I really find it hard to measure ""value"' under these obscene circumstances but with all this being said I'm glad we got him locked in.

I still do Tom, he'll be a bargain here next year.

The sox have the money to buy whoever they want. the problem we as fans have is that building will push capacity every single night whether they get Adrian Gonzales or Juan Gonzales and this ownership group wont get bent over for one of those 8 yr 175M deals, they dont have to do it and i dont think they will do it seeing as theyve made the playoffs 6 out of 7 years with 2 titles in the mix. as they stand now theyre going to be competetive enough even if they stand still and let Bay walk to make a run at the playoffs and as long as thats happening the ballpark is full every night. With 19 different owners these guys are in this to make money, dont expect anything spectacular to occur that would effect the payroll dramatically, I just dont think they need to do anything to improve attendence, you cant improve on 500-550+ sellouts now can you?
-
Id rather gouge my anus out with a scallop fork than see what i saw last night but being a man who tells the truth I have to say that the 2009 Yankees are worthy to be called world champs and congratulations to those of you who stayed with them after their 9 year drought. They are Americas best team and they deserved to win, they were tested and they endeavored to persevere.... Time to put away the bats till March and for you guys to haggle over who's going where next year. Theres nothing more miserable to me than listening to hotstove ********. Whoever they want they get, the rest of us try and get by on has beens, reclamation projects and over rated national league stars who come to the AL and underachieve. Is Jason Schmidt healthy yet?

Will Beckett be in Boston past 2010?
Mr Crunchy replied to TheMino007's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
They'll keep him thru next October as we can expect the sox to be in the hunt and then he'll be off somewhere else. Y'all seem to forget that JD Drew is the highest paid player on this team at 14m and with 2 titles and playoff appearances in 6 of 7 years this team is in now into the money making phase of their operation. They're not paying a pitcher 20M with all the young arms they have, i dont see it happening anyway. There are 19 different owners of this club I believe? And theyve sold out how many? 550xs in a row. As business people why would they ever spend that kind of money when the Pink Hat contigent of sox nation is still paying 500.00 for 2 box seats and the park is jammed pack every night? This team will be in the hunt for a long time as is due to the ton of young arms we possess. The thought of them dropping 20M on a starter for 5 years isnt happening, they'll make a run at somebody to inspire cooler talk but they are not going to compete in a pissing contest with the desperate teams like the Cubs the Mets and ya, even Tom f***ing Hicks Texas Rangers. Last year was the 1st time I didnt go to a game since I can remember and I wont be going again unless being held at gun point. I really didnt miss it as much as I thought I would either. With 0 superstars, no real stud pitchers like Petey in his day and the highest prices for bleacher seats in America I'll watch them on tv until they give me a reason to go in. The prices are already peaked, I couldve gotten RF grandstand seats for 80.00 a piece for game 3 vs Anaheim, in 2007 I paid 150.00 a piece to sit in the bleachers against Anaheim, the World Series game I attended went for 750.00 a yo...I took my son in a couple times in 08 but I felt used and abused without Manny being on the field and thats the last time I overpaid for tickets. They'll be able to keep up the competetive edge due to the young pitching locked into contracts but dont expect these guys to go balls out and break the bank, theyre selling out win lose or draw for the next 3 years anyway. -
Will Beckett be in Boston past 2010?
Mr Crunchy replied to TheMino007's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
He'll be elsewhere in 2010, the guys got a 4 era including the playoffs while pitching here. 3 of his 4 years he hasnt carried us, the year he did carry us we won it all. His next season will be fabulous then he will walk away a hero and we will have someone from Portland cued in to replace him. -
Usc was exposed and Oregon has now become the team to beat in the west. Dare I say SC looked slow against their conference buddies, slow to the point of being destroyed? Oregon usually does this in a bowl game against an overrated Notre Dame team or a plodding Big 10 team in an obscure bowl game but the ducks this year may be poised to make the BCS a little squeemish...I think Iowa is over rated, I think Cincinatti maybe ranked too high as well. should be interesting when Iowa plays Ohio State with the big 10 title on the line. The acc has nothing this year except more confusion, FLA State sucks, Miami came out firing but now theyre fizzling, va tech is good but they got humiliated by gtech, gtech looks great 1 week then the next week they suck, BC?? the only decent team they shouldve beat were the Irish,m they f***ed that game up good but have taken care of the weaker sisters in the acc and still may have a pop at a big game if by some miracle they can get into the championship game, the more action that qb gets the better he looks but those 5 turnovers vs the irish really were a pathetic scene. TOP 5 Fla Bama Texas Iowa TCU/Cinci/Boise..... I think tcu is the better of the 3 but Boise held Oregon to 8 pts, Usc wasnt capable of stopping these guys at all.Seems like all the compton kids who went to Colorado and Washington are now going to Utah, Oregon and Boise, how Boise can recruit the kids from sunny California behooves me and having been laid over in Salt Lake City for an evening made me contemplate suicide. I dont do winter sports nor do have I considered the LDS as an alternative to Christianity but that Utah team is fun to watch. Anyway Oregon got beat by Boise, Boise is still undefeated and the Ducks are 7-1, i think if they met again you'd see a different result. Its hard to respect Boise with such a tit schedule but all they do is win and beating Oregon was huge....They may belong here in the top 5 but I see the top 4 beating them somewhat easily, even on the blue field, size matters no matter what your girlfriend tells you and when youre outweighed by 50+ lbs a man on the d line you'll have problems. Texas has the luxury of a down big 12 year, theyll run the table and play the Fla Bama winner for all the marbles

2009 World Series: Phillies @ Yankees
Mr Crunchy replied to Cocos Disciples's topic in Other Baseball
Well he did have what? 3 games of post season baseball before he went to the bronx and if im not mistaken he did hit us pretty well last fall. This year his hits have been few but theyve been timely. Good morning Lynda, are you wearing any underwear today?
