  1. Nick Swisher is on pace for 125 hrs and 250 rbi. I for one predict a drop off but theres no way in Gods green earth losing Nady helps NY over the season.
  2. What a circle jerk this thread is, nobody mentioned Cap Anson or Pie Trainor?? What the f*** kind of commitee is this? Arod?...please, nobody who hits under .100 in the playoffs need apply here, that guy has a bone in his throat and is a disgrace to the game much more than Barry Bonds was, this guy needs his image consultants to get it together because hes become a joke and a stain on the great game of baseball. Manny is the all time home run hitter in the post season, Arods # is the internation symbol for choking. Pujols is playing in AAAA ball but if you insist on saying hes better at this stage of his career i wont argue. Joe Dimaggio?, if he played in St Louis you'd never really here about him like you rarely hear about Stan Musial, who belongs in this argument because he was a better hitter than dimaggio and there isnt a human being over 60 outside the douchebags from NY who would argue this. Aaron and Mays? Ok now you're on to something, Aaron was incredibly consistant over his entire career and the older baseball guys say Mays was the best to ever play the game. Problem I have is watching these 2 guys at the end of their careers, Mays was a shell of himself when he came back to NY and Aaron finished up as a DH in Milwaukee and I saw him K 3 times against the sox in a game back in 75 and I think Reggie Cleveland was pitching... still, over the course of careers these 2 men were simply the best in the game. Some put Mantle in their category but based on #s he simply doesnt belong, he had 4 seasons of 100RBI or better where as Mays and Aaron,playing on inferior teams, had many more. Plus these guys played during the time of the mound being raised, look at the dramatic drop off in #s on all these guys in 1968. Some food for thought Mannys slugging pct for his career is .593 Mays slugged at .557 Aaron slugged at .555 Hornsby, now thats an interesting character, i think he hit .424 1 year and won 2 triple crowns but his power #s werent close to Mannys over time but did he have some seasons or what heres the best season ever as far as im concerned in 1922. 42hrs 152rbi and .401??   3. Burnett has been the savior for NY, again i say he is the jewel of their 3 big signings. Meanwhile at the Oakland Coliseum the 2X WBC MVP is pitching like old people f*** and our bats have all the spark of a 58 year old stripper with giant c section scars dancing the 11-5 shift at Pudgys Tittie bar...The only saving grace was I didnt stay up till the bitter end after dice k shat himself in the 1 ip he tossed.

  5. Certifiably insane but had something that this league truly lacks and thats passion and desire. Never a guy who cared for money, just a local farm boy who had his shot,took it and became famous for 1 remarkable monday night game when he stuck it in the yankees ass while talking to the ball, patting the mound and driving Howard Cosell out of his mind. A tragedy for all us central mass kids who remember him playing American Legion ball.
  6. Good young leftys are worth a ton, this guy was arguably the best lefty in the game last year. I just dont know at this point, there is no swagger on this club and these games count. Someone needs to get excited, maybe Youk needs to throw a bat in the club house, maybe Ortiz needs to revert to Voodoo, I just dont know. its been 1 week out of 26-30 weeks of baseball these games count, the only saving grace and source of optimism i have is ny is in the same boat.
  7. Tampa isnt exactly dominating but they are the top gun so far,come the end of september we know a 15-3 score is as good as 2-1. Jon Lester has been disappointing to say the least this year and if you count his last grapefruit effort its 3suck starts in a row, 9 hits after 5ip against the a's is putrid. is there a problem? This kid had a 16-1 run at home till he met tampa in the 2nd start of the year. When our 1-2s get beat on the road its painful and now the A's patient approach may have the dice man throwing his 100th pitch in the 4th inning,all hands on deck here. No issues with Penny's effort, he pitched fairly well in his start, the only guy I am concerned about on the staff is lester and thats a huge concern. Their bats on the other hand? Well theres really no surprise here based on the #s so far they're going to improve but the key is at the top of the order,ells and pedroia need to be catalysts and theyve been off. Ortiz Lowell and Drew have been awful, Youk looks like Mike Schmidts bastard offspring and is on fire ,bay has been consistant. but it aint enuff. Tampa and Anaheim have good staffs, i dont know that much about the guy who stuck it in our ass last nite but come on,we're a week in and are playing with all the flare and gusto of the soiled cum rag under jacksonians bed that has a picture of Arod on it.   8. 1 thing is for certain nothing is easy for anyone in the american league after week 1. the balance of power is still top heavy in the east, anaheim still looks the part of the west champ, the central should be another s*** fight but the bottom of the wrung teams all seem to be better from seattle to kc and baltimore. the better pitching and deeper 9 will come to the top as the season progresses but after week 1 there are more questions than answers in the american league. Why did NY dump yesterdays game? That f***ing lineup couldnt start for the Milford Legion, honest to God. Cody Ransome?Melky""5 tool perennial allstar"" cabrerra, Ephram Molina and Wes Gardner?? Who spent 450M in the offseason, raised tix prices 75% and put these douchebags on the field? Jesus Christ, give the kid some confidence and shot to win, dont saddle him with the s*** bag end of the roster.

Florida beat santana yesterday KC beat the Yanks LA beat us with our horse going We beat la with wakefield going Cleveland almost won saturday against Halladay Philly looks weaker and older Oakland maybe a pain in the ass Texas can rake Bedard in seattle may make them competetive and atlanta's starters seem good but their bullpen eats it. Nobody distinguished themselves with the exception of Baltimore looking pretty rugged offensively. In other words i dont think the al east winner has a chance at 100 wins and the competetion may keep the 2nd place team out of the playoffs because the al east is that good. Its early and injuries havent come into play just yet,nobody is streaking and the weather is cold in the east and will continue to be cold thruout this week. We need Jon Lester to resume his status as the best lefty in the american league and i think we'll be ok.

I dont buy that,5 weeks in florida is enuff time to prep and yesterdays weather was great. i been saying right along that the burnett move is the best move they made this offseason and i even laid the 2-1 odds on them yesterday cause baltimore has 0 starters that frighten anyone. Well sitting behind Tampa has gotten familiar here, i hope matt garza breaks his right hand. Anaheim could be out of focus due to the horrible accident last night. Poor kid had 100 minor league starts and finally got the ball in the rotation, pitched a gem then f***ing dies at the hands of a dui driving a mini van of all things. Keep that in mind over Easter, more people get crucified in the US than did at Calvary. What a bleedin waste
  11. The habs had a disappointing year i am told. I wouldnt know what to expect from them. there was a time when i knew everyone on their team including the best 10 who were up and coming from the nova scotia voyageurs. alas the days of Marc Tardif Real Cloutier and Bunny Larocque are gone. It hurts the Quebecois that the Yankees have more titles than les habs do and the fact is in the forseeable future it isnt getting any easier there...By 2015 hockey will be an American only sport with perhaps the exception being Toronto unless the Government in Quebec wants to get involved. The dollar will eventually gain strength and put the loon out of the hockey business.

Burnetts whip was 1.8 against the orioles but he did what no other yankee started could do and that was keep them in the game and actually get a K. if ny gets this kind of effort from him they'll win their share. burnett is the diamond in the yanks offseason if hes healthy and gives them 27-33 starts

Ellsbury has to produce or we are in deeeep s***, if he hits 300 we score 900-950 runs. if he dont then we got to tinker with the order a bit and move his ass down, coco crisp was a better ballplayer than ells was last year for the most part. Hes been subpar since last April and the effects are obvious. The dice man will be fine, 3 hrs is an issue of course but i think our worries will be more offensive related than pitching related this summer.Dice never looks like hes a winner, i cant even watch him pitch with all that f***ing nibbling but all he does is win. Matt Garza has owned us for quite a while, he beat us so bad last year in the playoffs i used his name to lead off my dads eulogy the monday after he beat us in game 7. want to wake a funeral up and get a few laughs while making the priest nervous?? Start a eulogy by mumbling into the microphone ""matt f***in garza"".... It wont get you into heaven any quicker but it will make sad people smile and laugh

Nobody will replace Manny in our lifetime, its really that simple but if you're going to lose the best right handed hitter in modern history then Jason Bay isnt a bad replacement,the guy is a pro and hits well under pressure but they got some issues. Quite frankly i dont think they score as much as last year and the problem lies with elsbury. In 2007 he was hitting screaming line drives all over the place, last year after April he was awful. This is the catalyst this is the guy who stole 50 bases and has the potential to steal 75 if he can hit .280. with some patience The league has found his weakspots and has exploited them. If hes going to hit 250 with weak obp then we need to think about another bat and then lose an edge on defense,how long are we prepared to have him leadoff if he isnt getting on base? I have my doubts about this guy after seeing him fail last summer.
  16. What is shocking is the drop in velocity in both men and the fact that neither of their starters has posted a K yet. Yet Steve Phillips insists this is the best staff in baseball. perhaps this is why he is working for ESPN and not the Mets or another franchise. The whole Yankee season will be judged on how their free agents perform, of the 3 guys they got the guy going today is their cherry, perhaps their best signing on paper...With that said who would be shocked if he was holding his shoulder leaving the field in the 3rd inning down 5 runs? Burnett is their key, if he gives them 180IP this year they should have enough elsewhere to carry them to a playoff spot, if he cant go a full season then i suspect they'll have some real problems making the playoffs....MJ, that offense has had 1 inning in 2 games, theyre flat so far, scoring 4 in the 9th when down 6 is useless but stats get padded none the less.

Nice effort sir, the tourney was fairly predictable thru the 1st round with the 12s dusting the 5s and the top 4 teams cruising into the 16 but after that the big east just didnt have the muscle or the talent to play with state and unc. i was raised a providence fan as a kid because they had THE program from NYC to Montreal in the 70s and I can remember when Holy Cross vs Assumption meant something locally. I remember Celtics games being held up while Assumption and HC played, of course I also remember when Buffalo had a pro team that had 2 former PC studs on it in Marvin Barnes and Ernie D. My point being if you can make the final 4 in that tourney then you have had a great season so congrats to Uconn Nova and State for playing into the big weekend but the class of the season was always UNC and we all knew that inspite of BC beating the piss out of them in January... then losing to f***ing Harvard the next game.

  19. He wont have the luxury of seeing Cincinatti Houston and the Cubs down the stretch as he did last year. If he pitched all season in the AL Central what would his #s have looked like in October? 8 years is a long time in baseball and if the financial markets dont pickup soon a deal like this could influence their decision making come July 31st when I suspect some vital pieces of puzzles will be available for buyers.

  21. He started slow last year then got annilihated in his playoff start for Milwaukee. He's been an innings eater in the rough and tumble al central his entire career with the exception of the time spent in Milwaukee where he was pitching every 3rd game cause Ben Sheets was doing his impression of Claude Rains in the Invisible Man. Lots of negatives with this guy. We can start with him being 50lbs overweight His awful and depressing post season #s are embarrasing to look at for NY fans,the arod of pitchers. His 1000 meaningful innings pitched over the last 4 years are a ton for a fat boy He was used like a blowup doll in Jacksonians bedroom last year by Milwaukee He begged to stay on the west coast but nobody was buying him at those prices,he isnt a fan of NYC. so 8/160 is the price for CC Sabbathia and nobody was bidding over 100 cept NY. San Fran kicked the tires but they own Barry Zito already, 2 Barry Zito's would sink a team into chapter 11 on the west coast. You got to wonder where Brian Cashman is coming from and if the Fredo Brothers should be wearing the CCM helmets rather than the drooling old man who is for all intents and purposes unaware of whats happening since he left the lites on for us when we won the pennant in 2004. I do think Burnett will be effective but that is a bigger crap shoot than this guy is, wang tung also has to rebuild his legacy as he's bitten the pillow in the playoffs and went MIA last year as well. Dollars keep you competetive in baseball but they dont guarantee s*** but we dont have to tell Yankee fans this as theyve had the pleasure of seeing Aaron Small, Al Leiter and Helen Redding pitch for them down the stretch the past few years... This year they are much deeper............. on paper.

  23. 'morning james, getting your game face on I see.....I personally find it hard to roll into baseball after a great college hoop season but somehow I will find the stomach for it. Something about really hating the Yankees, the idiots in the city and state who funded these new stadiumns are probably 2nd guessing themselves at this point,the money hub of the universe is hurting a lot. I was in NY for the Big East tourney and walked into Peter Lugars at 1030pm on a Saturday without a reservation, the place wasnt empty but it wasnt full either, a true sign of the hardships facing NY. Brother paid 28,000 in taxes just for Westchester County and he doesnt have a local fire department? They call this place Taxachusetts but for the life of me i dont know why when all the other bordering states with the exception of NH have higher taxes and NH's property taxes are worse than ours. America needs a solid year on Wall Street or I can see a lot more brokers hanging themselves with their Brooks Brothers underoos
