  1. Have people learned NOTHING this offseason? First everyone starts bitching that Martinez was let go and how we still needed a big bat (on like Dec 1st no less...). Then Theo goes and gets Agon. In that press conference Theo says theyll also be looking into acquiring an OF and bullpen help. They then sign Crawford. During Crawford's press conference Theo AGAIN announces they will be focusing on the bullpen. Now after signing Agon and Crawford do you think Theo is going to skimp on the bullpen after saying multiple times they are working to fix it?
  2. Scott Linebrink was the big MR for 08 and got 4/19 from the White Sox. He hasn't pitched over 60 innings yet and has had an ERA over 4.50 the past 2 years. David Riske the other big MR signing that year for 3/13 had a 3.00 ERA over 5 years and has had a 5.40 ERA for the Brewers since his contract. In 09, K-rod got 3/37. Was pretty pitiful for that money in his first year and was good in his second, albeit in less than 60 innings. He still has 12+ mil due to him next season In 09 again, Damaso Marte, got 3/12, and has pitched a whopping 30 innings for the Yankees to the tune of a 6.40 ERA. Those are the 4 guys who have gotten contracts over 2 years as MR over the past couple years with Brandon Lyon being done with one year of his from 10'. None of them have really worked out so far, and at the going rate of 3/15 for questionable MR, I'd probably pass or sign maybe one. Two MR at 3/15? no thanks
  3. Two of Wheeler/Soriano/Fuentes would still be a major coupe for the bullpen. It's not Theo's MO to give out big contracts to MRs and it has literally almost never paid off for any team.
  4. Depth signings are always s***** because good players have a starting spot on at least some team
  5. Why bother if your the Orioles to spend 6mil a year on an ok MR? I feel like that money is much better on the draft or on a younger FA who will actually be here when/if the team is ever competitive.
  6. Well he was once one the the top prospects in baseball and more than held his own in his 22/23 year old seasons when it generally takes catchers a while to develop offensively. He has run into trouble since then but he's only 25 (Varitek for example never even had a plate appearance in the majors till Salty's age now) and has been sought after by the Red Sox for a number of years now. All that leads me to believe that the Red Sox do in fact see him as a starting catcher, and possibly an above-average one.
  7. It'd never happen but I agree. Does anyone think a lineup of basically just Mauer/Morneau/maybe Delmon Young and a rotation consisting of Lirano and Pavano/Baker/Blackburn/Slowey would win 94 games while playing 60 games against of 3/4 of Yankees/Devil Rays/Toronto/Red Sox? LOL, hell no.
  8. lol wtf have you guys ever gone out? They're wearing jeans and button downs to a club, incredibly standard.
  9. There's a lot of high potential guys who could become the next blue-chippers. Iglesias/Ranuado/Britton/Vitek/Middlebrooks/Tejeda/Workman/Coyle/Cecchini all are high potential prospects and possibly just one good season away from being highly regarded and sought after prospects. I think the farm is in fine shape considering the Agon trade.
  10. Jennings and Brignac look to be good players eventually but they will be rookies and haven't exactly established themselves in the majors. Their lineup was pretty poor before and now they've lost their (arguably) best player to their division rivals plus Pena. Then in the bullpen they lost two absolutely dominant MRs who pitched 60 innings each and had ERAs under 2. They win under 90 games based on losing just Crawford alone, the rest of the players lost will compound to probably make them a .500 team I'd say.
  11. Love this move. Crawford had a 5.7 and 6.9 WAR in the last two years respectively. I have to believe the Red Sox think he's that level of player for at least the next 4 years and a 3-4 WAR player in the years following that. He's a game changer. Awesome speed, defense, and contact hitting abilities. I assume he'll hit leadoff, which would give the Sox an unbelievable 1-4 and a very good back end of the lineup. Also with Drew coming off the books next year, the Red Sox don't want to be stuck trying to fill two major corner OF spots and Crawford is probably by far the best FA option that will be available in the next couple years.
  12. you just love this Boggs guy don't you? He's the next Boras right?
  13. Stop pretending like you know exactly how this whole thing went down, who has what leverage, etc. because you really don't know. No one does. Equating Werth with Gonzalez seems like a stretch. On one hand you have a 31 year old OF who's good but more of a #5/6 hitter than #3/#4 hitter. On the other hand you have a 28 year old superstar/franchise player. I have no doubt that it's possible Theo wanted both, but to say Werth signing forced the Red Sox hand doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
  14. No they meant the Red Sox would get two picks for Gonzalez since he'd be a type-A if no extension was reached. Though it's a moot point since Theo seemed very confident that a deal was going to be struck and I have no doubt that one will be.
  15. 8/167 boys, put it on the board or perhaps 7/161 after 2011
  16. have you been right yet? Someone just posted a source saying it's not over
  17. Wait when did Werth and Crawford sign with others?
  18. Agon's stats are significantly deflated by playing in Petco. He's proven over the past couple years that he is a 1.000 OPS hitter on the road, and will perhaps be even higher than that while playing in Fenway. I'm really excited to see what he can do to say the least
