  1. I'm a little surprised, but I guess it shows they just didn't want him that much. He has good value as a catcher but as a DH/1B his value takes a big hit.
  2. Lars Anderson was never the difference between the Red Sox getting Teixeira. And neither is Kalish with Crawford.
  3. He's also only 23 and a future 5-tool superstar. The packages I've been hearing are obviously ridiculous, but he's probably the hitting equivalent of trading for Felix Hernandez.
  4. wtf, Buck is coming off an .800 OPS season and is only 29, he should be a shoo-in for 3 years. Yet you're telling me a catcher who's two years OLDER will get two years MORE?
  5. It would definitely not be worth it. Like Jacko said you'd be trading an amount of talent equal to a .870 OPS 2B. When you move Uggla to 1B we just end up with an average offensive 1B for an extremely steep cost. Pass
  6. I agree there is no definitive blue-chip hitter in the system (Westmoreland is too much of a wild card right now). But out of the group Iglesias/Lowrie/Rizzo/Kalish I think at least one can have an 'all-star' type player impact.
  7. sorry a700 but there are like maybe 10 players in the entire minor leagues that fit the description you're talking about. If Kalish/Iglesias/Rizzo isn't something you can get excited about then Idk what to tell you. Not every team has someone like Montero. Not to mention the Red Sox have produced elite hitters (Pedroia, Youkillis) who don't have flashy tools but are all-star players. I think Lowrie has that potential too as well as the three guys I mentioned.
  8. ~.700 OPS first baseman? who cares
  9. when are they going to realize how much the blue seats suck?
  10. I really don't see Lee as a realistic option. We have way too much money invested in Beckett and Lackey to justify adding a huge FA pitcher when we have more pressing needs on offense.
  11. Look at Papelbon's last two years 09: 68 IP, 54 hits, 5 HR, 24 BB, 76 K 10: 65 IP, 55 hits, 7 HR, 26 BB, 73 K Those numbers are almost literally the same, the difference? In 09 he had a 1.85 ERA and this year he had a 4.02 ERA. His peripherals are still good and he's still better than anyone we are going to be able to find. Okajima's peripherals have been plummeting for a while now and it's really showing.
  12. No way he gets 100 mil. Why would he even get more than the 66 mil Bay got? Because he played 17 games in CF this year?
  13. I think he's a legitimate .800 OPS hitter. He has very solid plate discipline and even this year his BABIP is only .260 and he still has a .860+ OPS. I don't really know enough about his defense but I definitely think he's a bat that should be in the lineup at SS or 3B.
  14. That seems like exceptional drafting. Im guessing less than half of the first round and supplement picks become major leaguers, let alone all-star type players. In 2005 Theo's first 5 draft picks became major league baseball players, that's great drafting.
  15. I should probably pay more attention, I didn't realize the 2011 roster was already set in stone
  16. He's pitching in the NL, that'll be all he needs to be 'fixed' Ramon Ramirez has pitched 17 innings in SF and has a 1.06 ERA. Brad Penny is a low 3 ERA pitcher for SF/STL. Both those guys were terrible here
  17. I'm normally on board for a lot of your crazy ideas but the Napoli one just doesn't make that much sense. He's going to be 29 next year and will MAYBE post a .840 or so OPS over a full season which is just not going to cut it for the Boston Red Sox.
  18. LHHs are hitting .103 with a .317 OPS against Wilson so that's probably the best lineup for the situation.
  19. 6 pitches, two strikeouts. unbelievable performance
  20. clutch pitching by the two best pitchers on the staff
  21. I really like the idea of going after Crawford, which would open up a lot of options. Next year the OF could be Crawford/Ellsbury/Drew (amazing defensively and offensively) with Kalish being integrated to take over for Drew after the year leaving Crawford/Ellsbury/Kalish long term.
  22. Rays lineup is terrible and has been due for a regression for a while. Longoria and Crawford are the only guys above .800 OPS and then Pena at .772 (1B hitting .212). After that the lineup takes a complete nose dive.
  23. reminds me of when Almanzar tore up that league
