  1. Beast lately, almost .400 for June with 4 HR in ~40 AB all while increasing his walk rate.
  2. Bailey deal I think will be completely fine for us. Reddick had a huge May (10 HR) and has been a an average corner OF producer the rest of the season and has cooled off significantly this month. Plus his lack of plate discipline will be exposed over the course of the full season. Sweeney has been a nice pick up and is a little more versatile in the OF than Reddick. Bailey is one of the best CLs in the AL once he's on the field (and his current injury was of the fluke variety). And finally like I've said before, with Crawford/Ellsbury in LF/CF for the future, the Sox made the decision to keep Kalish over Reddick which I think is the right move in the long run. Lowrie trade looks questionable, though Lowrie had a similar run like this in 2010 and then looked horrible the next year. Plus he'll always be a below-average fielder.
  3. 44.0 IP, 31 hits, 1 HRA, 7 BB, 44 K, 1.32 ERA in A+, handling this league handily so far, prob gets the bump to AA in a month or so.
  4. Bard doesnt have a future closing here but i would absolutely bet some team would make him a CL. If a 70 IP 3.00 10 K/9 MR hit the market they would def get like 4/28. Hell Bobby Jenks got 6 mil a year
  5. His theory is that he has an aggressive swing and when he hits it into play, this bat speed causes his BABIP to be higher than someone who doesn't hit it as hard. I'm not sure I entirely believe this but his LD% is very high and higher LD% and higher BABIP are correlated. EDIT: ya you're second point^
  6. Some updates: Barnes with probably his worst outing of the year, 4 IP, 6 hits, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K 28 IP, 3 BB, 36 K, 1.93 ERA at Salem now. Bradley Jr. with another 4 hit night last night, .371/.491/.557/1.048 on the season Brentz with a 5 hit night with 3 2B's for AA Portland, .306/.358/.484/.842 on the season, 1.072 OPS in May Cecchini in A with a slow start to the season but a big May, up to .307/.392/.450/.841 on the season, .961 OPS in May Bogaerts slows down in May, .258/.308/.381/.689. Still at .267/.332/.420/.752 on the season in A+, only 19 years old so probably about 2-3 years ahead of the curve Helium Watch: Drake Britton promoted to AA after 25.2 IP, 7 BB, 29 K, 2.10 ERA month for Salem. We'll have to see what he does in AA but he has good stuff and is a LHP
  7. Agreed I think Cecchini is one to hold onto. Though I'd definitely deal Youk+prospect to get Garza. Maybe like Tazawa would be of interest to the Cubs since they could possibly stretch him out to start and Theo recruited him himself. Red Sox in: Garza Red Sox out: Youk, Tazawa Dodgers in: Youk Dodgers out: Two prospects Cubs in: Tazawa, two prosects Cubs out: Garza No cash changing hands since Youk/Garza is a wash and if anything the Cubs would need to pay up. Although Garza is younger, hes a middle/back end of hte rotation guy while Youk is possibly a middle of the order everyday hitter.
  8. would solve punto problem, move aviles to 2B
  9. Step in the right direction, velocity was back up which was a good sign. Swinging strike percentage has been trending upward to the past 4 games to 7.5% last night. If he can get that back into the 9-10% range he was at at the beginning of the season I think he'll be in good shape.
  10. smokes a 100 mph fastball in a 3-2 count with bases loaded, beast
  11. There's no reason to make any sudden moves. Youk looks good coming off the DL and another month or so at .900+ OPS production will skyrocket his value to a team needing hitting. This move can be made whether they are in it or not due to WMB. Depending on how they are doing in standings in two months they should think about trading Beckett. He looks dam good right now and could certainly command 2 top prospects. Would also help remove some salary and rebuild some of the pitching depth on the farm. No one is touching Lackey so a non-issue really. But if they are in it then what they really just need is a Matt Garza type SP. Move Bard to the bullpen, and then use the prospects from Youkilis and add in someone like Lavarnway, Ranuado. Brentz to get a consistent #2/#3 type SP
  12. Definitely pass, we already have two projects in this rotation as it is
  13. He collided with another player and injured his thumb, that's called a fluke injury.
  14. Way too many components of this move to analyze now. They got Bailey because he's cost controlled for this year and the following two. Sweeney has also hit well and is only 27. Finally one of the most important components of the deal was the bet that Kalish was going to be a better player overall than Reddick which I still think is a distinct possibility
  15. I don't remember ever reading this and I'd be surprised if it ever was said. I think the big difference between Doubront and Bard is that Doubront had only thrown 35 innings prior to this season and Bard had thrown 200
  16. Your theory is that the Sox moved a dominant MR to SP because they just needed someone to fill innings? The Sox paid a huge premium to get Melancon and Bailey, which shows they value good MR's very highly, thus I don't think they are going to remove a dominant MR like Bard just to cover some extra innings. They moved him because they thought his velocity would be higher and that he had a legit chance to be a #2 type SP given his ace stuff (at least in the bullpen). Also the stuff you're saying about them giving up on Bard seems ridiculous. How do you know how much they have worked with Bard? I'm sure a ton of work has put in by Bard and the training staff. Bottom line is the intention of the switch was the hope that he would be as dominant as a SP as he was a MR, it just hasn't been the case.
  17. Never really understood why Nava was written off so quickly. Two years ago he had a .350 OBP and this year is obviously well above that also. His plate discipline is a well above-average tool and his 10/8 BB/K is evident of that. He's hit extremely well at every level of the minors and has at least average defense. Basically I really think he has staying power. Not sure he's an answer long term for the Red Sox given that Crawford/Ellsbury/Kalish are the future, but I think he's a starting MLB OF on some team.
  18. Flaherty is f***ing worse than Punto DONT WALK HIM
  19. I like this move for now, though Byrd in CF is a questionable decision with Lin on the roster. Why not have an elite defensive CF to make up for some of the lack of range in RF?
  20. Miller looks like he might be the best MR in the bullpen right now, been dominating since hes been back
  21. In the NATIONAL LEAGUE. Remember Brad Penny? He was a 5.61 ERA with the Sox and was released(?) and then went to the Cardinals and magically put up a 2.61 ERA. Also just look at this season, there are 5 pitchers with an ERA under 2 and none in the AL. 2 of those 5 are TED LILLY and CARLOS ZAMBRANO. You absolutely can't compare the leagues, its apples to oranges.
  22. Is there any talk of Betances being switched to relief? At this point he's 24 and continues to walk almost a batter an inning. The stuff is there but I feel his control will never allow him to be a SP.
  23. Hindsight is 20/20. I could easily go through ANY team and pick out a ton of moves that didn't work out. How bout these moves: -Aceves, 114 IP of 2.61 ball and a very legitimate fill in option as CL this year -Salty, 27 year old .900+ OPS catcher at the moment -Doubront, one of the best pitchers this year, recently home grown btw -Hill, Miller, Atchison have all been under the radar pickups that have solidified this bullpen -the team is down their 3 best OFs (Ellsbury, Crawford, Kalish) yet has three guys all with OPS over .800 filling in those spots (Sweeney, Ross, Nava) That's 9 MLB players who are contributing significantly and basically ALL were under the radar moves that go under appreciated. I didn't even touch how they drafted and acquired the real core of this team (Pedroia, Lester, Beckett, Gonzalez, Ortiz, Bard, Buchholz, Ellsbury, Youkilis, Middlebrooks). So please continue to try to tell me they have no idea what they are doing.
  24. Sox win, TB, TOR, BAL, NYY lose. Good day
