  1. I followed it a lot when the NY Cosmos played. They brought over a lot of big stars: Pele, Beckenbauer, Alberto, and Chinaglia.
  2. After we got out of the 8th inning with a 2 run lead, I went out to run an errand that i had put off all weekend. I couldn't believe that Koji gave up 2 HRs and blew the save. Thank goodness for David Ortiz. We always need him to bail us out.
  3. I tried throughout the years, but it just doesn't work for me.
  4. The rest of the world had better hope that the popularity of Soccer doesn't continue to grow in the US. In a country of 300 million people, we have a huge talent pool that most small countries don't. As for me, I like the USA winning on the international sports stage, but I hate the sport catching on here. When I go to a bar, I would rather watch pro-bowing than soccer.
  5. That last AB had trouble written all over it. Farrell brings in Miller who has made a specialty of blowing games to face a lefty, but oh! brain fart! the A's have our nemesis sitting on the bench -- Coco Crisp who has beat us twice in this series. Seriously, has Farrell gone completely brain dead making that move.
  6. He's no Willie Harris. And I mean that as a compliment.
  7. LOL!! He is bak to normal in his last AB flailing like a blind man at fly.
  8. The completely useless Ross has 2 hits and a HR today. Oye!! Now, he will be here longer.
  9. I think we would be a better team if we signed Jackie Bradley Sr. instead of Jr.
  10. The Red Sox are dead last in the AL in Slugging %, next to last in Runs and HRs. The Astros are ahead of them in each of those categories. Truly pathetic. Back up the truck, Ben. This group stinks. Payoff Drew and put Bogaerts back at SS. Why delay his development for a guy that is giving us nothing. Send down Nava. At a .297 OBP batting .207, he has zero major league skills. He just doesn't belong at the MLB level. Enough of Gomes against right handed pitching. He has taken about half of his ABs against righties, and his stats against righties are just about half of what they are against lefties. He is strictly a platoon guy. Get a Lefty to platoon with him. Get rid of Ross. A personal catcher on the 11th best team in the league is pointless and ridiculous. Let's see what Vasquez has. Get him up here. He can't do any worse than Ross with the bat. When I see Ross hit, he reminds me of fat old Bob Bailey in 1978 helplessly flailing away. Get Betts up and put him at 3rd. Send down Bradley, jr. and let him find himself in AAA. Put Holt in CF. This kid is athletic, and he may be the brightest spot of the season. The pitching is okay. They just need to sort out who stays in the rotation when Buch comes back. I'd consider trading Peavey if theycould get something of value like a left handed OF platoon type. He can't sit pat with this group or there will be more torturous losses and boredom. Worse than the losing, this team is extremely boring to watch. They have me actually considering watching soccer and I deplore soccer.
  11. This is a horrendous offense. Nava, Drew, Herrera and Bradley. What a collection of s***.
  12. This series is going down the tubes.
  13. I don't understand the stubborn insistence of sending Bradley out game after game when he is so clearly overmatched. Victorino's absence has been a killer.
  14. The 10 for 55 is an improvement over the 4 for 25 that the lineup did against Kasmir yesterday. Plus, he is 1 of the 2 authentic power threats on the team.
  15. Freddie, why have you forsaken us?
  16. Was this a scheduled day off for Ortiz? If so, they should rethink that policy while the team is stuggling so bad offensively. Peavey battled. He's not a top of the rotation pitcher, but he gives us innings and keeps us in games. We would be winning many of these games if our offense was competent. I heard that Victorino had a setback. The guy is made of glass. He makes Ellsbury look like Cal Ripken Jr. We need Vic in the lineup. I read that Doubs will be starting in the A's series in place of Workman. I guess he will get dropped from the rotation. The Sox need to rebound over the weekend. They need to win a bunch of series in a row to get back into the running for a playoff spot.
  17. Jeter is a diva. He has been one for years. The Yankee organization should have moved him off SS about 3 years ago, but they are deathly afraid of offending the great jeter who will not move to the other side of the diamond even when the infield is in a shift.
  18. Do you know one of the things that I like about Ortiz besides his unbeleivably potent bat and clutch ability that we have ridden to 3 World Championships is the fact that he is so authentic. He doesn't give canned sanitized answers like many athletes are schooled to do. You know the standard answers that Derek Jeter gives. In 18 years, Jeter has never said a single interesting thing. Ortiz speaks his mind. Sometimes it creates controversy-- like in September 2011 when he questioned why Aceves didn't get a chance to start. Everyone else was wondering the same thing. Sometimes it makes him look selfish like questioning a scoring decision or negotiating his salary in public. Sometimes he just makes you cringe like when he beloowed "this is our bleepin city!" It's all part of who he is. There is no phoniness about him , no public face and private faces. He is authentic. He is also a great giver of his time to the community and charitable causes. He's definitely one of the good guys -- a rare thing in professional sports at his level of accomplishment.
  19. = negotiating posture
  20. Yep, I forgot about those sweeps. That happened while I was away on vacation with little internet access.
  21. When will Victorino be joining the club? Also, was that our first series sweep of the season?
  22. I agree with the one more bat theory. Add a productive bat to the lineup, and it will have a cascading eFfect throughout the lineup.
