  1. This is definitely a great opportunity for the Sox to pick up some ground - playing 3 of the small handful of teams with worse records than the Red Sox. They have 5 or 6 teams to climb over in the Wild Card hunt. If they don't make a major move over this stretch, 2014 I over for them.
  2. I don't think he could bring back much value. He's probably more valuable to us as a platoon/AAAA player.
  3. I think that you are completely right. Last year, amazed me as everything seemed to break our way. That team was a resilient fighting bunch and their efforts rarely went unrewarded. I did not think they were the most talented team last year by any stretch. When you get a run of good fortune like that, you expect that your fortunes will turn eventually, and they have turned bad dramatically this season. The feeling is different this year than 2012, largely because we are not saddled with a bloated payroll full of sloths and bad attitudes, but also it feels different because we are still basking in a cinderella Championship season. That being said, if we have another 90+ loss season that will mean a lot of pain for the fans as 90 loss seasons is something that is really unprecedented for everyone other than very senior Sox fans.
  4. We are going to get nothing for half a season of a washed up pitcher no matter how he pitches in his upcoming starts. The best that they can hope for is for someone to take his remaining salary. As a fan, we will be rid of the torture of watching him stink and yell at himself.
  5. Before 69 there were no playoffs and there was no Wild Card until 1995. Since 1967 we have lost 90 or more games once in 2012 and won 3 championships. They have usually fielded competitive teams that win more than they lose. If we lose 90 games for the second time in 3 years and only the second time in 48 years, that would be some historic suck for the Sox.
  6. Victorino is on the Carl Pavano rehab program. His rehab has been shut down again due to a back problem. There is no target for resuming his rehab. They need to get another outfielder really fast.
  7. LOL!! At 8 years old, I was a front-runner. I started rooting for the Sox in 1967. I did miss Geiger and Buddin and Dr. Strangeglove.
  8. The Sox need to get Victorino back and another OFer. Nava and Gomes need to be a strict platoon. Gomes can't hit righties. Period. Nava is much better from the left side. They can be useful as a platoon. Neither is an everyday player.
  9. That is right, but he has had a penchant for the long balls this season. HRs are way up by Buch this year, and it doesn't look like he has straightened that out during his absence.
  10. Three long balls served up by Buch.
  11. It's not hard to talk about speed. Bernie was extremely fast first to third, and anytime he had to run 2 or 3 bases. He just couldn't get the first step acceleration to steal bases. Bradley and Bernie are not comparable players no matter how similar their stats might be right now. Also, almost 100 pts difference in OPS is not very similar. Maybe Bradley will be a great player, but they are not similar types.
  12. Buch's start has been encouraging, but he is still giving up the long ball.
  13. The bum that beat us last night got sent t the minors today. That speaks volumes about our punchless offense.
  14. The Red Sox are on a pace to lose 90 games this season. If that happens, they will have lost 90 games in 2 out of 3 seasons separated by a World Championship season. That would be bizarre. Putting this in context, in the 48 years that I have been a fan (including 2014), 90 loss seasons have been more rare for the Red Sox than World Championships.
  15. That's not the point that I was making. As athletes, they are not comparable at all. Bernie was a big, strong yet swift athlete with a lot of power, good OF range and an average throwing arm. Bradley is small, without much power. He's not as fast as Bernie who could burn up the bases going first to third (but not a base stealer). Bradley has a much stronger arm than Bernie. Edit: Bradley has just about as many ABs in the majors as Bernie head in his rookie season and his OPS is 87 points lower than Bernie's
  16. Bradley and Bernie Williams? I am not seeing that at all. They are almost completely different types of players.
  17. Buchholz's return tonight should really give a shot in the arm to the offense.
  18. Peavy just plain stinks. Get his ass out of here. He will not be here next season and he is providing no help this year. Get rid of him. Give him away to anyone that will take his prorated salary.
  19. If they keep rolling out this garbage, they will make a run at their 2012 record.
  20. Grunt some more on the mound, Peavy. It is fitting to go along with the s*** you are taking on the mound.
  21. Peavey f*** you and your stupid screaming. Just get some outs.
  22. The Mets kicked the crap out of the A's and Kasmir 10-1 today. We had so much trouble with the A's.
  23. You are acting like a couple of *******s.
  24. The team stunk before 6/1 too
