  1. I always like D-Lowe and his k rate was very similar to Porcello. He had one great season as a starter that he followed up with seasons of ERAs of 4.5 and 5.4 - not very good. He did not have sustained success at Fenway as a starter. Other than that one season, he was never better than a #3.
  2. You've got the right attitude Thunder. Fantasy is all about fun, competition and friendly trash talk. I thought I had you put away before yesterday. I didn't realize that you had Lester and Harvey going yesterday. I was at the Mets game last night. It was a pleasure to watch a matchup of Harvey and Scherzer -- two guys with great stuff who really know how to pitch. Good luck this weekend. It should be nip and tuck.
  3. Some good information Kimmi. I do have a couple of comments about some of this data. I think Porcello gave up more of his HRs to left-handed hitters because Comerica is shorter to RF and the park gives up more to HRs RF. Yes Fenway is longer to RF and this will help him against lefties, but Fenway is shorter to LF and gives up a ton of doubles. This will hurt him against right handed hitters, and there are more right handed hitters. I am having a hard time recollecting a sinkerballer with a k rate as low as Porcello being successful at Fenway for an extended period. IMO, Porcello will have to step up his k rate and keep the ball in the park to be successful at Fenway. He is not going to be able to continue hitting bats at the same rate as he has in his career and be a #2 for us. He has stepped up the k rate thus far, but he has had mixed results keeping the ball in the park.
  4. I'd like to know what the math is behind those projections. I am sure that he didn't pull it from his ass. The projection of a 4.00 ERA makes it hard to justify the $20 MILLION/YEAR contract. I wonder how many starters with 4.00 ERAs have signed $20 million/year contract for 4 years. Edti: I am not asking you to get me the math. I am just saying that I am curious about what goes into these projections.
  5. You didn't answer my question. It is fine to be forward thinking. Every business need to do that to be successful, but I was asking about metrics that would indicate that he would improve his game. As for the better Red Sox defense, that is probably off set by Fenway being more hitter friendly.
  6. What metrics are the FO relying upon as indicators that Porcello's game will progress to a level where he will be worth $20 million/year?
  7. Welcome. I am a Brooklyn, NY born lifetime Red Sox fan. And don't believe Kimmi. She' s as twisted as the rest of us. Otherwise, she would not fit in.
  8. I am reading that teams looking to upgrade their starting staff and potential competition for Hamels are the Dodgers, Yankees, Cardinals, and Cubs. Stiff competition with deep pockets. I can hear the whiny excuses when we land Eric Bedard 2.0 and one or more of the other teams land the prize catches.
  9. I agree. I hate losing to those guys.
  10. I knew he mention of Gator would get a response from you. I don't think Greeny was a good OFer, but he wasn't as bad a people made him out to be. I think he was better than HanRam is.
  11. I think this is accurate, but it was not a big value play. If anything Ben paid a premium price here and established a new bar. It was surprising to me, because the Red Sox have not been in the habit of setting the market since Theo departed.
  12. Hanley is not quoite as bad in LF as Daniel Murphy was when the Mets tried him out there in 2009. But he is mich worse than Manny and maybe even worse the Mike Greenwell.
  13. I am encouraged by what I have seen and read about Johnson, but concerned about Owens. I'd look to see if the Phillies have any interest in him.
  14. He has been stepping up the k's which is encouraging, but until last night it came with an alarming increase in HR balls. Time will tell. If he fails, this team is cooked in 2015. Even if he performs like a #2, I still think $20 million/year for a #2 establishes a new market value level for #2's. I can't think of many #2's making $20 million/yr.
  15. That is what we need from him.
  16. Yes. We both agree that the contract extension came too fast. And I think we both agree that he is not an ace. I am holding out hope that he can step up and pitch like a #2 with under a 4 ERA. I am not sure that he will, but a case of beer will make for an interesting bet and some fun.
  17. Not you Spud, but don't do that. Respect the "ignore" feature unless you are stirring the pot for a troll.
  18. ^ You are irrelevant to me, so why bother responding when i don't view you?
  19. It was and is a legitimate thread. The state of our pitching is a huge concern not just to fans, but I heard last night's pre-game radio show and Farrell is very concerned as well. The porblem is not that thread but a few jackholes (and you know who they are) who insist on demeaning posters for their opinions about baseball and the Red Sox.
  20. He'd rather accuse you of something, which by the way, I don't think anyone else took it the way he did.
  21. Just proves that your hate filter for iortiz has short circuited your ability to read and comprehend. He was clearly asking her to bet $. His reference to "boys" was not sexist or exclusionary. It was clearly a reference distinguishing between child and adult. Otherwise the invitation in the same post to bet money makes no sense. He rebuffed the offer to bet a sig saying it was for "boys". Certainly, it should be clear to you by now that ioriz is someone who prefers to bet cash, and he invited her to bet cash. He didn't say sig bets were for girls. English is your first language but when colored by your hate filter, you get things pretty messed up. But by all means, tell iortiz what he meant to say when he posted that, because you know better than he what was in his mind.
  22. Plus, our fans and friends here will not know who to root for or against. Their hate will consume them and we will just be haqving fun. Don't bother reseraching U.S. IPAs yet. I'm usually pretty good on these bets.
  23. Israel, did you open your books for 1 more Porcello bet?
