  1. K's up are good, but Home Runs up and ground balls down are not so good. Hopefully, he can make some adjustments.
  2. To personally attack people that we converse with every day over opinions about sports is pathetic. It just is. No one is accusing these public figures of criminal or immoral behavior. They are public figures and having their performance criticized goes with the territory. Sometimes the criticism is not fair, but it is nothing for people to get worked up about to the point of trashing up the board with personal insults of other members.
  3. Wow, it sounds like we couldn't get a bag of old balls for the guy.
  4. I don't think anybody ever has.
  5. Players, managers, umps and announcers are all fair game. If they do a s***** job, we should expect that people will s*** on them. An appropriate response is not that the poster is this or that. Posts going after posters are just .... well seriously, those people... ugh. What can I say? They feel some need to defend people who don't know they exist. Pathetic.
  6. Can't we trade him to another organization?
  7. That might be easier if UN went on record that he was softening on iortiz and that his hatred for him was now only as hot as 5 burning suns --- extend an olive branch.
  8. Good job. Keep the mojo going! I like this
  9. Nice to get a win when the pitching matchup clearly favored the Rays.
  10. 3 outs from a 1-0 win.
  11. Also, the Cubs are calling up Addison Russell to play second base to go along with Bryant. I wonder whether Theo will trade Castro if Russell plays well.
  12. Although it is very early in the season, it is still interesting to note that the Mets and the Astros are in first place in their divisions.
  13. Yes, he was getting bashed. When the story about his kid came out, a lot of the bashing stopped. His performance definitely suffered, as he must have been going through a personal hell. Drew was one of the more robotic players in the game. Fundamentally, his game was perfect and he never showed emotion, but no one is a robot, not even Drew.
  14. The rain shortened game cost you the Over bet.
  15. What's Masterson's velocity today?
  16. Not much sleep and the teams routines are completely out of whack. I see the hitters being a little off today. I am not thinking the over is a great bet. Where's iortiz? I like his track record.
  17. The NL won 9 AL 7. Of the 7 AL victories, the A's Dynasty and the Bronx Zoo accounted for 5 of the 7. I don't think there was much dispute that the NL was the better league at the time, and Dick Williams was probably the best AL manager of that era.
  18. His tactics at the time were not in anyway revolutionary in the American League that didn't bunt, play small ball or run. It was known as the old white players league. Probably moe than half of the AL managers managed the same way as Weaver at that time. The National league had the better younger players with more tools so they ran a lot more. They were the more talented league -- better pitching, better fielding, more speed. That is why they won more of the World Series back then and almost every single All Star game. Weaver didn't lose World Series because the post season was a crapshoot. He lost because the NL counterparts were better. The Mets didn't have the Orioles hitting, but they had Seaver, Koosman and Gentry (who was better than Nolan Ryan who was in their bullpen). That 1969 season was the one year where Weaver might have lost with the better team. Gil Hodges managed Weaver's pants off in that Series.
  19. Weaver had a philosophy, but no great tactics. He alwasy had a superior pitching staff that finished what they started most of the time and a lineuo full of power hitters together with the best fielding SS and CF (they were all-time great fielders). Weaver was a better motivator than a tactician. For all of his love hate relationship with Palmer, he motivated Palmer to greatness.
  20. THe most Classic Weaver ejection was caught on mic when the ump told him that Weaver would be remembered for blowing World Series. Weaver went nuts. Great viewing.
  21. Another example was J.D. Drew's 2007 season. His son had some rare conditionand the treatment involved was very painful and I believe that the kid was in a body cast of sorts for an extended period. Drew's numbers were off for the year -- that is my recollection.
  22. Entertaining post. Even inside the crazy world of baseball,$20 million/year for 4 years is at the top of the scale for a number 3 type starter. Porcello will probably be our best pitcher so I will feel good when he takes the hill. Nevertheless, Bennie didn't pay wholesale for him. He paid full retail plus a premium. He also extended Miley who looks like a bottom half mediocrity. Why stop at those two? Maybe he should extend Kelly so we can have a core of mediocrity for 3 years. I don't understand why yhe rush to sign either one to extensions. Do they expect there to be a shortage of middle/bottom of the rotation types? I don't get it. In the meantime we will get to watch a lot of high scoring games. Has anyone else noticed that opposing batters have been tripping over each other running to the bat rack?
  23. I am just going by what Tito reportedly said at the time, and he reportedly suggested his firing.
