  1. The Angels are in second place playing over .500 and their GM resigned. Have some class, Ben and quit before you bring further shame to this great franchise.
  2. I don't think they should make any short-sighted moves. This team needs to add pitching for the next few years not just what is left of 2014. As nice as it is to have ER, Johnson And Owens waiting in the wings, you can't work them all into the rotation at the same time. Three rookies in the rotation would mean another last place finish. They need to get a good veteran in the rotation. If they add one now, it should be with the thought of having him for another couple of seasons.
  3. Thanks for the pre-game notes and stats.
  4. He leveled Ellsbury. There is a big difference between being run into by Beltre and Panda. Getting hit by Beltre is like getting hit with a cement railroad tie. Panda is more like a bean bag.
  5. He ruined a whole season on Ellsbury wiping him out.
  6. Doesn't Ortiz crush Buehrle? Porcello needs to keep the ball in the park. If he does, we roll.
  7. We risk feeling entitled with all this winning.
  8. They are getting on base and the run production is increasing, and those stats you cite are right dead in the middle of both leagues--a tick above average and getting better.
  9. Hitting slumps from time to time. The pitching certainly didn't pick them up in May, not even occasionally. The fact is that the team is still dead last in league ERA. The OBP for the hitting is in the top half of the league and better than league average. Edit: If people want to keep blaming the hitting when the pitching is rock bottom dead last, you are entitled to your opinion, but this team will go nowhere this season or next season until they get some talent in the rotation.
  10. May was the only month where the hitting slumped. Scoring 4.55 runs in June and 5.14 runs in April is holding up their end. A team with a 4+ ERA is a bad team. Edit: Plus, my post referenced only the last month, because I was making the point that going forward the challenge will be getting consistent pitching. The lineup is hitting and it will get better when Hanley and Pedey are back in the lineup.
  11. it is an uphill battle, but the pitching needs an overhaul anyway. It will not fix itself in the offseason. The situation will get worse if Buch walks. I don't see any reason to wait to rebuild the pitching. If we do it now, it might help salvage 2014. If it is too late for that, we would get a start on 2016.
  12. today running a team has become more about preserving the value of individual assets than winning baseball games. It was the same idiocy with Joba Rules or when the Nats shut down Strasbourg during a post season run. I was a bit glad when he needed TJ the following season after they had been so protective of his health.
  13. The everyday lineup has been doing its job for the last month and they will hit even better the rest of the way. The problem will be a lack of any consistent pitching after good Buch and ER. The big defect in this team is the pitching and that will not fix itself. If they don't start fixing it now, they will have to address it in the offseason, good Buch gets to walk in the offseason toile it even more challenging.
  14. As currently constituted this team is just not good enough to compete imo.
  15. Johnson pitched to only 1 batter and walked him before he was removed in the first inning yesterday. What is the story behind that?
  16. i agree. We are not out of this if the FO does something to improve this roster.
  17. Great game by Buch again.
  18. If Hanley was in LF, we don't win tonight's game. There were a couple of balls that he would not have caught.
  19. I am enjoying good Buch.
  20. You had mentioned catching one of our division opponents. I was pointing out that we would have to do more than that.
  21. We have to catch all of our division opponents. We are in last place
  22. I am shocked that any Red Sox fan would risk enduring more garbage performance at the hands of Cherington. FO personnel is fungible. There is no unique talent involved in being a GM. Time to change horses.
  23. Cherington is awful. He needs to go because he is awful and JH doesn't want to finish last again. It doesn't matter what the fan base thinks.
  24. He is a pretty big guy, so I think his power will develop. I'd project him topping out at 15-20 in a few years. I don't see him as a big home run guy.
