  1. Bailey and Hanrahan were not cheap. They were paid a combined $11 million in 2013 for negligible contributions.
  2. A fine fix that BC left to DD.
  3. Plus the Angels included Aybar in the trade. He was a 2.3 WAR player in 2015 and 3.9 WAR All Star in 2014.
  4. There is no way that Chris Sale is going for prospects that are 2 years away-- not even a boatload of them. Sale is a young, very cheap top 5 starting pitcher. He will bring back a much higher price. You are way off the beaten path thinking that Margot would be a key component of a package that could land Sale. This is Sale not Discount.
  5. Was it shudder-worthy? Notice the wink. It is called kidding. There is no need to go to war when our team just got better. LOL!!!
  6. You are refuting a whole lot of things that I never attributed to you, but you have confirmed what I did say-- that no one like to pay retail.
  7. In your opinion, has the team philosophy changed based on this first transaction?
  8. I get it. You don't like paying retail. No one does. If you want to pull your hair out over this trade, go ahead. I am optimistic about it.
  9. Koji will be an 8th inning guy. With a carefully managed workload, I am think your argument that the 8th inning will overtax him is overstated.
  10. LOL!! Yes, it seems to be.
  11. Like I said in the other thread, no one like to pay retail. We bought a quality item. There is no denying that. If you want to be unhappy about it, that is your right. I am optimistic about this move. Would it be fair to say that you are pessimistic about it?
  12. I think you can look forward to getting Price. Maybe that will take the sting out of getting Kimbrel for you.
  13. In your opinion, has the philosophy changed with this first deal?
  14. They didn't fix the 9th inning. They just fixed the last 3 innings by extending quality arms to the 7th inning. Also, Koji is 40, and next year will probably be his last.
  15. No one like to pay retail prices, but at least the Red Sox can afford it -- both in $ and prospects. Complain if you like, but this improves us in a crucial area where we sucked last year. This shouldn't be causing knots in your stomach.
  16. You really seem less upset about the $250 million flushed down the toilet than this. You don't even mention Porcello. I guess that is because you thought the extension was a good deal and you are still holding out hope that it will be a good deal. As for your statement that this deal "is modestly improving the one part of their bullpen which was actually pretty good", I think you have a huge blind spot. Our bullpen was the worst. Kimbrel is not replacing Koji. He is being added to a pen that will still have Koji. If you can't see Kimbrel's addition to the bullpen as a major improvement, I think you have some blind spot that I can't explain.
  17. I really think you are overstating your case on this acquisition. The facts just don't bear out that this is a terrible trade. I asked you earlier. How will you feel if DD doesn't burn any more prospects, but decides to sign Price for $200 million? You either have to spend prospects or money.
  18. Bagwell... the go to analogy for bad trades. The FO there had bagwell blocked at 3B by Scott Cooper. Very poor judgment. Also, they traded him for 4 weeks of a 38 year old set up guy, not 3 years of a 29 year old All Star closer. I think you might be overstating your case just a tad. If you want to be unhappy about this, it is your choice, but this is not a back breaker for the Sox --not even close, not now or in 3 years. It will improve the team, whether the price is inflated or not. Were you this upset about flushing $250 million down the toilet for Panda, Hanley and Porcello? That was huge value for nothing in return.
  19. How was San Diego's defense? I know that they had Matt kemp in the OF -- and he was lucky that hanley kept him from being the worst OFer in 2015. I am just not recalling how the rest of their defense was. Also,Kimbrel's numbers still look pretty good even for a down year. Was the chatter that he was hurting or had lost velocity? He is still young. I did hear that he had some struggles in SD. I assume DD did his homework on him.
  20. If we want to bitch and moan about squandering assets, do we really need to look any further than Panda, Hanley and Porcello --a $250 million shopping cart of crap?
  21. We have more money than most teams and more good prospects than most team. We also have had more last place finishes than all other teams in the last 4 years. Something had to give.
  22. We don't know what else is on DD's shopping list and whether he will be able to execute his plan. This is just the start and people are whining as if these guys were going to play for us. They were never going to crack our lineup unless tragedy befalls the guys ahead of them. Papelbon? Let's see where he ends up and what he costs in a trade before we bemoan not getting him. I am a big papelbon fan, but at this stage, Kimbrel is the much better bet.
  23. And Kelly may help build our bullpen. We have two big money pieces in the pen. That is not disproportionate or outrageous considering our payroll. Edit: We will have to wait and see how DD builds a pen. Kimbrell is a good start. BC built a horrible pen last year -- a big steaming pile of garbage.
