  1. DD needs another couple of quality bullpen arms.
  2. Knock it off U.N. Seriously, you are starting to stir s*** again? We don't need it. People here can speak for themselves. His comment wasn't directed to you. Cut it out. I was just about to take you off ignore, and you act like a total dick.
  3. The reality threshold was breached a long time ago.
  4. Maybe Lester and Lackey can revive the chicken and beer club in Chicago. f*** the Cubs.
  5. I agree with U.N. Hoarding prospects is not a good use of assets. Good management knows which to keep and which to trade. Cechinni is a wasted asset. At one time, he had decent value as a trade chip. Now, he is a Buffalo chip.
  6. They are all a bunch of overpaid pukes in suits playing an adult version of strat-o-matic. I have little regard for any of them. They recycle the same guys throughout the ol'boys network when few of them are qualified to manage a grocery store. I'll debate the moves they make, but I couldn't give a s*** about about any of them.
  7. He was just a low level trade chip. He never progressed. He never impressed me either.
  8. His prospect value was wasted.
  9. Nice staff for Theo with Lackey as his #3.
  10. Done deal. Two years $32 million.
  11. it was a terrible rotation even if they performed to career norms. They were a 4 ERA bunch. Combine that with a terrible bullpen and their pitching was built on quicksand. Staffs with 4+ ERAs don't compete for the playoffs these days and they were hovering around 5 for most of the season.
  12. If he felt rushed, he must have time management issues, because he was never the first GM out of the blocks in the off season. He routinely waited around until all the good pitchers came off the board. Also, what was his rush in extending Porcello. There was no rush to do that. Anyway, he is gone and yesterday's news. I will say this about him. He always seemed to be an upstanding guy and a straight shooter. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for him. The team is off on a new exciting direction.
  13. I would like to see this happen.
  14. Nor would the billionaire blindly give away $80 million to Porcello. I am sure that he had input on that contract extension. I am sure that he had input on Hanley, and Panda too. I would think that he always has a veto power. I would find it improbable that Henry picked up the phone to tell his GM to get Panda or Hanley. I see no reason to think that any of the big money moves were not recommendations by Ben. I also think that a good GM could have convinced Henry that a "no-ace" strategy was not a god formula for winning. Neither of us know whether Ben was in agreement with this strategy. I find nothing in the record to believe that Ben disagreed with this strategy.
  15. Some people have convinced themselves that all the smart moves were Ben's efforts and that the bad moves either showed the hand of Larry L or the faulty strategy of Henry. There is no evidence of any of this. They just blindly believe what they want to believe. I just assume that he was the GM with all the powers and duties that come along with that position. I don't attribute responsibility to him on a selective basis.
  16. You can't compete for the long haul or the short haul if you can't put together a good pitching staff.
  17. Shields for Panda could be promising, especially since the Padres have non-tendered Middlebrooks.
  18. If the no-ace philosophy couldn't work, it was Ben's Jon to convince Henry of that. If he agreed with the no ace philosophy, it was his job to make it work. He did neither, so now he is out of baseball.
  19. By $20-25 million. If he had been the Carl Crawford that he was in Tampa no one would have cared, but even so over-shooting the market so dramatically was no great accomplishment.
  20. How did the rest of you do in your predictions, if you ventured to make one?
  21. You are being kind to Porcello by considering him a number 3 pitcher. His career work establishes him as a number 4. Arguably, he still has the potential to be a number 3. He should be our number 4 to start the season behind Price, ER and Buchholz. Hopefully, he can pitch well enough to warrant the number 3 spot in June/July when Buch goes down.
  22. Will Middlebrooks has been non tendered by the Padres. Maybe they will go for the Panda for Shields swap.
