  1. Sign me up for 4 consecutive Division championships and 10 years of competitive winning baseball. Could a fan hope for more? BTW the AL East has not been a great division for a few years.
  2. They won for 9 years. That is sustained winning, not a "win now" mentality.
  3. Really, 7-8 years of drought? That is difficult to achieve if you are willing to maintain a payroll that is in the top 5 in baseball. You are projecting a catastrophe that has never happened in the history of the game in the free agent era. Anything is possible. Ben broke the mold finishing last 3 times with a top 3 payroll. I don't think anyone had done that in the history of the game. That is not a prediction of doom. It is a fact. I will take my chances that DD will not do worse even if he has a win now mentality. He produced a consistently competitive team in Detroit for 9 years.
  4. And you give him a free pass for everything bad in his tenure and full credit for everything that worked well. You are the one with the biased view of him, not me.
  5. Goodness, will we do worse than 3 last place finishes in 4 years-- is that the kind of drought you speak of?
  6. It was Ben's failure as GM if he couldn't convince his boss that a portion of his very large payroll should be allocated to top pitching. It is his job to identify the needs of the team and convince the owners of the strategy. The strategy was Ben's. If you are going to give him credit for holding onto the valuable kids, you can't cherry pick and exonerate him for not making top shelf starters a priority. It's BS.
  7. Yet, he managed to spend $180 million on payroll in 2015 and without getting an ace?
  8. Hopefully, Verducci is right.
  9. You got that right.
  10. Give away? That is an odd way of describing the offloading of a $70 million liability backed with a junk asset. There is nothing gift - like about that. Lol!
  11. Is there anyone on the international market who DD might be considering to head up the rotation?
  12. Yeah, you have made that clear. I don't think anyone is confused about that. Others here think that it would be stupid.
  13. And let's go with Closer by Committee too.
  14. Give him away? I think they would be thrilled to be able to give him away. No one wants him even if we pay half his salary.
  15. The longer he waits the higher the cost will be for a number 1. Hopefully, he gets it done early.
  16. I would rather have to fill a spot in the pen if Kelly is forced to start and start the season with the strongest possible rotation.
  17. A bad defensive first baseman can wreck a team.
  18. I am shocked at this response from you. You should consider signing up for his course.
  19. And Ben was so patient last year that one starting pitcher after another kept coming off the board to the point that none were left. His patience did not result in the market price coming down. The opposite happened. The price went up. A GM is not going to find a starting pitching bargain at the end of the off season. Supply and demand dictates that the price of good starting pitching goes up as less are available.
  20. The notion of creating depth by putting ER in AAA is fallacious because it comes at the high price of weakening the major league rotation. The depth should come from Kelly starting the season in the bullpen. That will strengthen the pen, and he will be ready to step into the rotation if there is an injury or under performance.
  21. I just don't know what to make of Buch anymore. Would a bounce back season for him be a good half season or a mediocre almost full season? I just don't know.
  22. Per Cafardo: Ben's legacy -- three more years of Hanley.
  23. The asking price for Chapman was reportedly higher than what we paid for Kimbrel. This is per Cafardo:
  24. It wouldn't make sense to me either.
