  1. I wasn't making a comparison to DD-- just noting that your comments do not excuse BC's failure in 2015.
  2. To refute your 2 points: 1. It is the GM's job to convince ownership of your strategy. He either had the same strategy as Henry or failed to communicate a winning strategy. Either way, he failed. 2. No, the 2015 staff was not good enough, not on paper and not on the field. Many of us knew that going into the season.
  3. Holt is a much less expensive version of Zobrist. He's not as good yet. Zobrist's break out year was when he was 28. Holt is only 27.
  4. He has a live arm, but he is a trainwreck.
  5. And he called Doji and MVP old fools.
  6. He is working very hard behind the scenes.
  7. He is given too much credit just by the fact that we are still talking about him. Goodbye and good luck. He is no longer a factor, so he doesn't matter.
  8. Pablo was never d that good of a player that he should have gotten the contract that he got. And he has been declining precipitously against lefties.
  9. I like the way this kid thinks. He is a future GM: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2016/02/13/kid-asks-giants-manager-bruce-bochy-to-take-back-pablo-sandoval/
  10. This guy is so dumb that he would lose at Jeopardy if his opponent was a bowling ball.
  11. The guy is just an idiot.
  12. We definitely need to do a better job of drafting and developing pitching.
  13. I always followed the Red Sox minor league system. In recent years, I have been following prospects of other organizations, because several of my fantasy leagues have minor league drafts. I like to be competitive in those leagues so I have to do my homework before and during the season. But for that, prospects are sort of like the tree that falls in the forest with no one around to hear. It doesn't matter to me much until they are making significant progress and are a step or two away. That's just me. I'm a big league fan and I watch every Red Sox game and tons of games of other teams. I just can't get too excited about the minors. I do like seeing the kids in the flesh at big league Spring Training to size them up against the big boys. If a kid shows promise at Spring training, I do make a note that I could be seeing them during the season. If they look like a deer caught in the headlights, they go back to the forest.
  14. Jenrry Mejia Gets Lifetime Ban After Third Positive PED Test. What an idiot!
  15. Marlins To Sign Craig Breslow To Minors Deal
  16. Agreed. We need to see how the current crop of young major leaguers works out. If they have doubts about some of them, maybe they should move them while they have a high value. I would not let Moncado and one or 2 others go unless overwhelmed.
  17. With youngsters Betts and Bogaerts locking down CF and SS and hopefully Bradley and Castillo holding down 2 OF spots and with Vasquez and Swihart at Catcher, the best use of our farm (particularly the position players) is probably as trade chips (with one or 2 exceptions) to fill in the gaps with seasoned major leaguers.
  18. LOL!! Anchor Baby?
  19. I did not know that there was a Mrs. Wally.
  20. All you need is 10-15 minutes a day to set your lineup. Don't overthink it.
  21. That's right. Sabrementrics uses math but it is not science. There are so many variables that the statistics do not take into account. Until managers start doing it, we only have a theory. Sabremetricsians are not working with the immutable laws of physics.
  22. Any decisions made regarding building or fielding a team or in-game strategy needs to take into account the fluid dynamics of the game. That is where the art of managing (and general managing) comes into play. It is this aspect of the game that renders statistics useful but imperfect. It is also the part of the game that makes the game interesting. You can watch baseball for 100 years and still see things that you have never seen before. Defensive shifts are an example of on field strategy driven by statistics. All the spray charts had been there for some time before managers starting adopting it. It became prevalent once teams started having statistical success on the field. I think they are being over-used at this point. I also think that the game will adjust to the proliferation of shifts. With power numbers down, coaches will start instructing players to improve bunting and to hit the other way, and the use of the shifts will lessen. Btw, for all of those who think the defensive shift is new, it goes back at least to Ted Williams. I remember shifts for Willie McCovey. I got my hand on an old copy of a 1970 Red Sox game. Yaz hit a groundball to the right of second base and lo-and behold it was fielded by the SS who was positioned on the other side of second base.
  23. I wonder if he has anything left other than a need for a paycheck.
  24. It is weird. The tools are there when I use Internet Explorer, but not when I use FireFox.
  25. I am not seeig the editing tools, e.g. Bold, Underline, Text Size etc.
