  1. I have no doubt that FOs look at FanGraph's projections. I also have no doubt that they have no need for them and that the FG projections for standings do not influence their player moves.
  2. I acknowledged the entertainment aspect of the projections. Other than that, I see no use in them. That doesn't take the fun out of it. It recognizes that they are purely fun and not serious.
  3. Lots of excuses have been produced for Porcello's horrible 2015 (and it was horrible). In 2016, he needs to put up because he will be out of excuses.
  4. Let's just hope that Sandoval's 2 adays doesn't refer to naps. Lol!
  5. The FanGraphs projections like all other projections are useless except for entertainment value. Knowledgeable GMs could come up with the same projections by just perusing team rosters. The computer models that come up with this stuff is a waste of technology.
  6. I will be happy if Porcello logs 200 innings and a 4.25 ERA in line with being the #4 that he has always been. If he can do that, his contract will be an overpay, but not the disaster of Panda's contract.
  7. Except for "someone's 2 year old niece."
  8. I didn't realize that you were talking about professional analysts who do their own projections. Of course, they would look. They are in the same business creating useless projections. They are not everyone. I doubt GMs are guided by these projections even if they look at them.
  9. They are probably much better at it than FanGraphs.
  10. For individual players for Fantasy teams yes, but I don't know too many people digging into team projections. Not everyone looks at team projections.
  11. Agreed. He wasn't clearly commanding games in the second half. He had some good games, but he struggled in a lot of other games.
  12. I think Porcello will be lucky to return to his career norms in 2016. He's just not a top of the rotation pitcher. He is a 4 or 5. The pitch selection argument is bogus imo. His fastball velocity was up, and it was getting hit hard, because he wasn't commanding the pitch. That is execution. Just because his FB velocity was up from prior seasons doesn't mean that he didn't have an injury. Many feel that loss of command is the first sign of an injury, and he was DL'd during the season. It could also be that he couldn't harness the command of his increased velocity. If he vastly improves in 2016, it will be because he learns to harness command of his higher velocity, not because of the mix of his pitches. He left too many fastballs dead red for hitters.
  13. I agree with you on this. His problem was pitch selection. It was pitch execution, i.e command, which some believe to be the first sign of arm trouble. He did go on the DL. Maybe it was a phantom DL, maybe not. Ony heand the doctors know. He left a lot of balls over the fat part of the plate. That isn't pitch selection. It is execution.
  14. Who are these projections useful to other than possibly odds makers?
  15. I think this is a point that many people miss. He has a lot of innings under his belt.
  16. Hanley, Human Doughnut and Porcello was over $250 million of bad contracts. Ben fanned and went 0h fer three on these guys.
  17. I will be down in Fort Myers on March 4th. Hopefully, I will not have the same concerns that I had last March after watching his act in LF.
  18. I really am perplexed that DD is willing to start his tenure in Boston with a defensive experiment with Hanley, especially after spending a boatload on Price and getting Kimbrell. You can screw up a lot of games at first base. Also, I am very disappointed that DD has not added another quality starting pitcher. I still think our pitching is thin and mediocre. Thankfully, the rest of the ALE is flawed.
  19. $18 million per year is a reasonable price imo
  20. The guy is a human doughnut. He never should have been signed without a weight clause.
  21. Sure. Old school = uninformed in sabremetrics speak.
  22. Are their results easily searched?
  23. They will track you down and your lifeless body will be found with a copy of Bill James Abstract to send a message to other heretics.
  24. They should make him pay for his own room.
