  1. I am really surprised that he was a second base man in Cuba. He must have been blocked at SS and 3B.
  2. Yes, Pablo and Rusney are probably the best examples of really stupid overspending. Rusney is still the highest priced Cuban defector acquisition. We are getting 0 for $72 million, and Pablo was cheap by the pound I guess. I don't have any problem with getting Moncado. It is quite the opposite. I am thrilled to have him. I am just not going to heap adulation on the FO for it's shrewdness when they make as many terrible big deals as they make great ones.
  3. You just have to shake your head. Sometimes they can be so rigidly and unreasonably cheap and other times they spend like drunken sailors like with Price and Carl Crawford.
  4. After seeing his arm last night, I had to wonder why is was a second baseman. That is not a second baseman's arm. It is a SS/RF/3B arm.
  5. Beane is another one of those guys who is impressed with his own press clippings and he has won diddly squat.
  6. But we overbid the Yankees by 20%, and the other offer might have been $26 million. I realize that this is pennies to the Red Sox. My main point is that they were willing to spend $60+ million on this kid, but offered Lester ony $70 million. That just strikes me as stupid.
  7. I am thrilled to have the kid, and I don't care how much money they spent on him, but throwing kudos at a FO for business acumen for throwing money around and overpaying is another issue. If that is the standard, then the Yankee FO up until a couple of years ago must have been the smartest FO of all time.
  8. I have never understood your fondness of Eric Wedge. Was he a drinking buddy? Does he come from your neighborhood? What is the back story, because I see no reason not to lump him in with the rest of the knuckleheads?
  9. Very few pitchers completely transform themselves after 1,400 innings. That is a load of innings. Most guys don't have careers that are that long. Whatever is going on in 2016, I am really enjoying it, and it is very unexpected after the shitshow that he put on in 2015.
  10. He is a good manager who thinks he is much smarter than he is.
  11. Do we know that as a fact?
  12. I don't think that I stated it that strongly, but i did think that replicating 2014 was unlikely. As for the mea culpa, let's wait until the end of the season. I'd hate to be foolish twice. BTW, over his 8 year career including 2016, his ERA still sits at 4.24, so I don't know if a mea culpa is appropriate. I am thrilled at his success, but he is still a 4 ERA pitcher over 1,400 innings.
  13. He would top my list.
  14. I said that I am glad that we got him. I wouldn't be surprised if they outbid the field by $5 to 10 million. They just suck at gauging market value imo.
  15. Why would I apologize? I bet on Porcello last year and lost. I still owe iortiz a case of American IPA's.
  16. $60 million is $60 million. It is a lot of dough for a kid that spent parts of 2 years in the minor leagues. It is not like he was a great find by the organization. Everyone knew about the guy. The Red Sox simply decided to break the bank for a 19 year old, paying $10 million less for the 19 year old than they offered Lester for 4 years. Let's not be patting the FO on the back for its great business acumen. I love having the kid, but we paid a steep price to get him.
  17. He got ripped off in a major way.
  18. If manager's have little or no impact on games, they should eliminate the position as unnecessary and just let the coaches handle the onfield stuff. The GM could make the lineup and the Press Secretary could deal with the press. Of course I am being sarcastic, because managers tactical decisions do impact a team's win/loss record. That is why they have jobs, and most of these dopes need bench coaches because of the mental strain of the strategy.
  19. But it would be foolish to rely on a 41 yr old pitcher to bounce back so quickly and to be effective and reliable in late inning high leverage situations.

  21. There is a gigantic difference in quality between the Blue Jays and these bums.
  22. Let's get them again tomorrow!
  23. When I saw the look in Theo's eyes after the game, I called my son and told him that Theo wanted to fire him on the spot. I never saw that look from Theo any other time. He was stunned and seething.
  24. Theo fired him because of that move. He fired him immediately after the World Series concluded. He would have fired him that evening if he could have. I could see the rage in his eyes after the game.
