  1. His issue is he is frail. Does the head play a part in that? Who knows. I am not a doctor, so I don't know his physical issue. I just know that he has a track record of not being durable.
  2. I am not all that sure about Pom either. After some more thought, here is how I would go into the playoffs. 1. Price 2. Porcello 3. Pomeranz/ Buch in a piggyback 4. ERod/Buch in a piggyback If Buch is needed to piggyback Pom, he will obviously not be available to piggyback ERod. If Pom can go deep into the game, Buch can piggyback ERod.
  3. I think Porcello is a top Cy candidate this season. If he has had a weakness, it has been the gopher ball. If he limits the Jays to 2 or less Homers tonight, I am confident about our chances -- provided neither is a 3 run job or GS.
  4. Rotation for the playoffs should be: 1. Price 2. Porcello 3. Pomeranz 4. ERod/Buch in a piggyback
  5. If Porcello keeps the Jays from going deep more than twice, the Sox should win.
  6. He's only valuable depth if he is healthy. Most seasons at this time he is rehabbing for the next season. We have been lucky that he sucked so much in the first half that he didn't pitch his quota of innings needed to get injured.
  7. It isnt a strawman. It is just valuing players as a source over some stats that can be mangled and manipulated. There are times when one athlete knows that he is mentally dominating his opponent and that the other guy has no chance. The stats say that he should have a 35% chance of getting on base according to all career stats and relevant splits. Yet, both participants know that the guy is toast. And even at the major league level, confidence and will are not equal among all players, and good and great players don't necessarily have a proportionately great confidence level. It is the reason why some players can't handle playing in big markets. It isn't because of the commute or the high rents. It is that players (even at the MLB) level react differently to stress and pressure.
  8. I know that we can afford it. That is not the issue. The issue would be allocating a starting rotation spot to a guy who we know will only give us half a season. I would rather go in a different direction and get someone who can give us 30 starts.
  9. Not at all. We have enough history with him to know that he is frail and can't be relied upon for a full season. This of course would affect his trade value, but whatever we get in return should cost us nothing.
  10. I agree with those who have competed at that level. They know best. Stats can't measure the mental part of the game.
  11. Probably so, and I am annoying myself doing it.
  12. I would only do it if he rebuilt substantial trade value down the stretch and in the playoffs.
  13. "Indeed, if"? LOL!! They did. That is not in question. LOL!! Tweet your complaints to them. Write to NESN to have them removed. This is a baseball forum to discuss baseball issues. It is not a forum to carp about other posters.
  14. I take much more seriously the opinions of those who strapped on the gear and competed. Your post to me means nothing in comparison to that.
  15. "If so"? I can understand and process the English language. They were all over the move questioning it before Koji threw his first pitch. As for the carping, I am get sick of you carping about carping. I watched the game, which you apparently did not, and there was very little carping here at Talk Sox. Keep your remarks targeted to a discussion of baseball. About 80% of your posts are about the carping. Seriously, knock it off. It is a bore and you are very frequently wrong in your interpretation of what others say which is the annoying putting words in others mouths aspect of your posting.
  16. But they jumped all over it immediately. Maybe max should tweet nasty stuff to them.
  17. If Clay continues to pitch like this, the Red Sox should pick up his option and trade him. He is just too frail to be reliable. I don't see that changing with Buch.
  18. For confirmation regarding clutch players (or as U.N. say non-chokers), I talk to and listen to current and former players. Confirming whether a player is clutch or not by using statistics is completely unreliable. Talk to the players. That is where you will get your answer. Clutch is largely the mental/confidence aspect of the game. They will tell you who they wanted to have the ball or at bat for their teams. They will tell you who they feared on other teams. It isn't always just the best player. A lot of Mets of the late 60's and early 70's thought that Koosman was the better big game pitcher than Seaver (who had the clearly better stats). As Yogi said, ninety percent of the game is half mental.
  19. LOL!! He does have to rest a neuron at times in NL parks. We are in first place going into Toronto for the weekend!! Papi is rested. Farrell's 2 neurons are rested. I feel confident.
  20. What a ridiculous call on that foul ball. THe ball didn't come close to hitting the batter's foot.
  21. 2 batters 2 k's. So far so good.
  22. Koji coming off the DL and going in in the 8th inning in a 4 run game. Announcers questioning the move.
  23. Shaw with another RBI. great move by Farrell getting him back in the lineup.
