    Agon with a 3rd hit and he always seems to come up big in the biggest games. He has been quite a pickup.

    If the Red Sox decide not to bring him back, I would doubt that they have made a final decision about that in July, so I don't think they would be desperate to unload him at the trading deadline.

    If he did not want to come back, I would agree, but the evidence is to the contrary. I don't see any reason for the Sox to be desperate to unload him. This is not like Nomar who clearly had no interest in re-signing with the Sox.

    Walks are always a killer. The kid has to start going deeper into games.

    He's an uderrated fielder that flawlessly handles the toughest RF in baseball. His power output is down but he is getting on-base numbers are good and he is playing a key role in this lineup. The percentage of draft choices that pan out is so small that getting two picks for Nixon is essentially meaningless.

    But while his clock is ticking he is a bigger tourist attraction than Big Ben.

    IMO its a mistake to let seasoned veterans walk that have proven they can play in Boston and be productive despite intense media scrutiny. Also, Trot is a clubhouse leader. WMP should be the 4th OF in 2007 and he should be groomed to take 1B when Lowell's contract expires. f*** the picks. Getting two picks to let Nixon walk is not a good move.

    It is somewhat of a risk. Maybe they should give Hansen a shot as the 5th starter. Edit: or what about a spot start for Julian T?

    I was saying that they needed to make a move for an experienced starter during the 12 game win streak. The 12-game winning streak covered up the deficiency temporarily, but it did not eliminate the problem.

    Let's leave the creativity to Theo. I don't think he would move Lester for Smoltz, but he might move Hansen. Also, I am sure that other pitchers would become available for the right deal, e.g. Livan Hernandez. This dollar store 5th starter crap is not going to work.
