  1. It was pretty funny that the flip from Youk hit Tavarez in the face.
  2. It's really ugly tonight.
  3. Never mind the 5th spot, this rotation, has some big problems. The 5th slot is currently the forfeit slot. The #4 has been good and demonstrated a lot of promise and potential, but can't go more than 5. Wakefield's back woes continue, and Beckett has been getting taken deep at a dizzying pace. Right now, it seems that the only certainty is that Schilling and Beckett will take the ball every fifth day. If Wakefield goes down, the sickly rotation will cause the pen to crumble and the team will take a nose-dive.
  4. He needs to be medicated.
  5. If there really is a trade offer for this POS, they should grab it.
  6. He just sucks-- two walks to start the inning.
  7. They all juiced, so it doesn't matter.
  8. Plus, we have one forfeit every 5 days. This week's will come on Monday as Kylew Snyder takes the hill.
  9. Who is Aaron Guiel? He hit a HR off Contreras to put them ahead of the White Sox 3-2.
  10. Is this gonna be another game where we have 10+ LOB?
  11. Billy Buck's also set a record for LOB during that series that stands until this day. If he had gotten just one or two stinkin hits the series would have been over and out and the error never would have happened. He deserves the goat's horns, because it was due to his complete ineffectiveness at the plate that they got to extra innings in game 6. The error was just the icing on the cake. The Mets pitchers kept putting on the guys in front of Buckner with 2 outs to load the bases , and kept making out. I still get mad when I think about it.
  12. 3 Yankees, now including Ponson and 1 ex-yankee, Weaver.
  13. The back page of today's NY Post has both the yanks and the Mets in hot pursuit of Abreau. The Yanks are also interested in reacquiring Gordon and Lieber.
  14. Conclude that it was a fabrication and creation by a sportswriter that made that sportswriter a ton of money.
  15. I thought the article said that he had been a minor leaguer. Also, he did manage a foul ball at age 83. That's pretty impressive. It was a dopey stunt, but give the guy credit he was willing to put up by stepping into the box. A foul ball is not bad. Most 20 year olds sitting in the stands would have run out of the box in fear.
  16. I am not saying that they are dead set on it. I think there has been enough evidence indicating that they are strongly considering it. When they first got him in the trade, Theo spoke about the possibility of him learning 1B, but cautioned that they didn't expect that to happen right away. Then they took the opportunity of his rehab for to take some work at 1B. Why do you think they had him work at 1B? They don't think much of him in the OF, and he would be a nice power stick at 1B. Lowell will not be re-signed after '07, so Youk will move back to 3B. That leaves 1B open.
  17. The Sox never gave Mays a tryout. They sent a scout to look at him. The scout was a racist pig, and he gave a negative report about Mays. I believe the Sox gave Jackie Robinson a tryout, but no team at that point had broken the color barrier, so you can't single the Sox out on that one. The Yankees then as now had more economic resourcesand clout than any other team. Their organization knew about all the talent in the Negro leagues, and I am sure that Robinson would have been proud to break the barrier with the Yankees. The fact is that they were the second to last team to break the barrier. They wsaw no reason to upset their apple cart while they continued to win World Championships. They paid the price in the 60's as did the rest of the AL.
  18. Welcome Kristen!
  19. The Yankees were lilly white also, and although they signed they broke their color line about 2 years befor the Sox, they remained largely lilly white through the 60's while the Sox brought in Stars like Earl Wilson, Reggie Smith, and George Scott.
  20. It will not happen this season. He'll probably need to play winter ball at 1B and get some intensive instruction in ST, maybe play a handful of games there next season, play winterball after '07 and after ST '08 he should be ready at 1B. He's not ready now, and Theo needs a backup for Youk.
  21. Did he ever have a career. He's been an under-achiever all but one year-- his walk year a couple of years ago.
