  1. Ponson is another guy that shrinks from a challenge. I'd rather have Clement.
  2. Beckett's pitch count is still good.
  3. Buck is a bigger idiot than McCarver. His only talent is nepotism.
  4. I think that he is a guy that responds to a challenge. He has a way of rising to the occasion unlike Clement who shrinks from a challenge.
  5. And the fact that the trade did not go through and that he did not get a similar offer from another team is proof that Livan does not command a very high price. You can ask for anything. It doesn't mean that you will get it. It's called negotiating. As his team falls further out of the race and Livan's ERA remains around 5, his price will come down. Your argument would be much more persuasive if the Nat's were turning down offers of Ellsbury and Bowden. Asking for them means nothing.
  6. WHere did I even suggest that? I think the Nationals are probably looking to off-load his salary, and I would doubt that he is commanding a price of a top level prospect like Hansen.
  7. Why, are the nationals asking alot for him?
  8. What they saved on Pedro they threw away on Clement and Wells. They wasted money on Rent-an-error when they could have signed Cabrera for 40% less and put the savings towards re-signing DLowe. In the end, they would have come out in the same place on the payroll. They would haqve saved 3.% million in the first year if they re-signed Pedro, becaquse he pulled down $17.5 million in '04. Edit: Also, the White Sox do not come close to the Red Sox in economic strength.
  9. Unlike the Red Sox, the White Sox immediately re-signed their over-priced free agents immediately. They kept the chemistry going. The Sox let Pedro, Lowe and Damon walk in the first two years and crippled their team with the likes of Clement and a lot of dollar store pitchers..
  10. On the bright side, his pitch count isn't bad.
  11. Nixon showing why he is so valuable in RF.
  12. Their hands are not tied at all. If they wait to see if Clement can come back, they would not be doing their job. With Clement's situation and Wake's developing back problem, they have to be working overtime to make sure that they have 5 good pitchers they can run to the mound. EDit: If they snooze, they'll surely lose.
  13. Because he can help deliver a World Championship this year, and if he does I really don't care if he retires or blows out his elbow. You guys with these thoughts of a Dynasty are going to be hoping for decades. You haven't been watching much of them if that's what you think. They are truly terrible, especially their pen.
  14. Maybe, but not a certainty.
  15. Precisely because Schuerholtz is a smart executive, Smoltz will be moved. He is from the Branch Rickey school of thought that it is better to move a player a year too soon than a year too late. He knows that he is an elbow injury away from getting nothing back for the 39 year old Smoltz. When has Schuerholtz shown any tendency to hang on to players beyond their prime or at the end of their careers.
  16. IMO the Braves are not in any danger of contending next year. Schuerholtz is saying these things so as not to lower Smoltz's market value. He would unload Hudson for the right price too. Edit: as for needing Hansen now, I'd rather Foulke come back healthy.
  17. Smoltz is nothing? Do you have inside info from the Braves that they will not move him. Unless you do, you have to assume that he is a likely candidate to find a new home as is Livan Hernandez.
  18. IMO, without a major move, the Sox will go no further than the first playoff round, and if they hit a few rough spots they will not even get to the post-season.
  19. I'm thinking that you are a glass half full person. I'm realistic. Dynasties are extremely rare. Other than the Yankees from 96-01, what dynasties have there been in the last 30 years? You are giving up the golden ring for an elusive hpoe and a prayer. BTW Other than Jeff Bagwell, what is the history of giving up the future for instant gratification?
  20. That's funny. They criticize him for not hustling, for styling on his HRs, etc, etc. but now they are saying that he could be an ambassador for the game.
  21. That makes no sense. It just shows how stupid TV executives are.
  22. Winning the whole thing is so difficult with two playoff series before the WS that I would be very happy to win another WS at the expense of Hansen. I'd drive him to Fulton County Stadium.
  23. It pisses me off that Fox is showing the Mets game in NY. They are 11 1/2 games ahead and John Maine is pitching. Red Sox-White Sox Beckett v. Garcia is clearly the marquee game of the day. What *******s!
  24. Good mopup work is helpful to the rest of the pen.
