Schoenweis is not the answer nor is Hawkins. They need starters that can go 7 so losing a Schilling game is not so devastating. At this point, there is no indication that they will make any attempt to patch up the rotation or that there is anyone available to get. The fact that it was such a struggle to get by the O's was a good indication that the better teams will trash us. The Yankees are making easywork of the bad teams.
The Red Sox will win one title in 2006. They will be the team with the highest payroll not to make the playoffs. If the Angels an Dodgers make the Playoffs, 5 of the 6 highest payroll teams will make the playoffs. The Red Sox at # 2 in payroll will be watching from their couches. This team was put together very poorly from the get go and the FO didn't even take the opportunity fix some of their mistakes at the trading deadline. To have the second largest payroll and not even make the post season is an embarrassment for the FO and hopefully a wakeup call that they need to get their s*** together. Lsst year's off-season hissy fit by Theo was unprofessional and more disruptive than we imagined at the time.
It makes losing a Schilling start that much tougher, because now we get to throw three piles of s*** on the mound to start the next three games and then you hold your breath when Beckett starts. Beckett and Schilling were keeping us in the race for a long time. Once they hit a lull and the FO brought in not a single reinforcement we were toast. THis weekend could be a massacre. They need to win at least 3 of 5 this weekend to stay within striking distance. With "The Ultimate Loser" starting the series we will be getting off on the wrong foot.
I've seen opponents be acknowledged for great plays at both Yankee stadium and Fenway. Even low life scum like Yankee fans will ocassionally give it up for an opponent player.
Ryan had one more productive year. His last 2 year he won only 5 games each. He only threw 56 innings in his last year. I must have missed your response to this post.
"Twighlight" Pedro suffered a strained calf warming up before tonights game and he got roughed up in the first inning. It was only slightly worse than Beckett's usual first inning.
He's a serviceable mopup guy and nothing more. He can't be trusted with the ball in his hand in a big game. That knot in the pit of your stomach when you see him warming up means more than any stat.
In 1990, at age 25, RJ had an ERA of 4.82 compared to a league ERA of 3.95. In 2005, a 25 year old Beckett had a 3.38 ERA compared to a league ERA of 4.02. Stupid argument?
What argument? I never claimed that he would be as good or better than Randy in his prime. You made the following statement:
I responded pointing out that a 26 year old Randy Johnson was not as good as a 43 year old Nolan Ryan in 1990. Where did I make a comparison to Randy in his prime?
Yeah, your #5 is better than our # 5. That's your big point? He's the worst starting pitcher in the history of the game. I refer to him as "The Ultimate Loser."
