  1. So, you have convinced me that the Red Sox rotation is comparable to that of the Yankees and the Rays. I believe that is what I was saying. Those comparisons can be argued in either direction with no clear cut winner. That's why I am not getting all excited about the depth of the Red Sox starting pitching, because it is only arguably on par with that of our two rivals. The Red Sox do not have a clear advantage in this regard in its own division.
  2. I don't think that you are viewing the Yankees or Tampa very objectively. Most experts like their rotations. As for Kazmir, lots of teams would like to have the young lefty. Sonnestine may be a #4, but I'd swap Wakefield for him in a minute.
  3. Lester gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings today. That line brings back unpleasant memories.
  4. 8 deep with a few risks? IMO it's more like 3 solid spots in the rotation and 5 question marks. That's more than 60% question marks.
  5. The Red Sox ruined his entire career?
  6. How deep are the Sox right now? Wakefield is #4 and he has been pitching with a torn labrum for two years. Penny's shoulder is questionable and he is not ready to take a turn yet. Bucholz had a great spring, but he was god awful last season. Smoltz won't be ready until June at the earliest. There are only 3 solid pitchers in the rotation. Everyone else is a ?
  7. As I said in my post, the game has changed. With today's specialization and coddling of starters, 11 or 12 pitchers are needed.
  8. Carter and Bailey just continue to hit. Carter hit his 6th HR and Bailey had a double. Both are hitting around .360. Too bad that in today's game teams carry 11 or 12 pitchers. They would make for a nice lefty-righty pinch hitting tandem.
  9. Carter has won the job over Bailey? Has Bailey been sent down?
  10. I'll respond this morning.
  11. When will final cuts be made by the Sox?
  12. They are messing around with his service to delay his Arb. And FA eligibilty like they did last year with Longoria. Smart move.
  13. I agree that it is Bench. Campy needs to be in the conversation. What about Joe Torre?
  14. Bucholz has been very consistent and very sharp this spring. He had another very good outing today. His ERA this spring is 0.46. His command of the fastball has been very good, which makes his curve and changeup very effective. He has got to be the leading candidate for the 5th rotation spot if Penny is not ready when camp breaks.
  15. Wilkerson has lost any chance of making the team IMO. He has the better glove than Bailey or Carter, but that is not saying much. My money is on Carter because of his explosive power.
  16. Will Girardi have the onions to move Jeter off SS this season, because if he stays at SS, the Yankees will finish out of the playoffs again. He looked like a dinosaur at the WBC.
  17. He rarely hits the ball.
  18. From today's Boston Herald:
  19. Wilkerson has made Varitek look like Manny this Spring.
  20. ...and it is very possible that Clemens will go to jail. Now, that is going out on your own terms. Only Pete Rose had a worse exit. "Moy Gawd!!! Roger Clemens is in George Stoinbrenner's jail cell!!!"
