    You are glad that he went out having thrown his last pitch in a World Series victory that brought a second World Championship to Boston? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

    He was the money in big games. He said he was coming to Boston to end an 86 year old curse, and in fact, he did a commercial where he made that exact statement. He made good on his boast. Couple the pre-season boast with the bloody sock game and Schilling's myth will grow for generations.

    I don't know if Jones will get any time with the big club this season, but I think Bard and Tazawa will get the call when the bullpen starts showing some wear and tear.

    Papelbon looked human again today giving up baserunners and runs, and JD Drew has been taken for X-Rays after being HBP on the hand.

    Walking around Fenway alone at night when there is no game is much different than walking around Yankee Stadium, which would be quite fear inducing.

    The Olympics cannot be compared to this tournament. The modern summer Olympics have more than a 100 year history and the winter Olympics have been around for more than 80 years. I am not a Hockey fan, so I am probably not the one to weigh in on this. However, the WBC is not comparable to the Olympics in stature or importance.

    Big Yaz fan here. He played everyday for 23 years whether he was injured or not. In his last few seasons he played with both wrists and ankles taped. Today's players are pussies in comparison. Welcome aboard.

    In the 2004 WS, I was feeling much more secure with Pedro on the mound than Wakefield.

    Pressure situations that can destroy a pitcher's psyche to the point that he cannot succeed are rare... maybe the Bobby Thompson Shot Heard Around the World, the Joel Carter World Series winning home run or Hendu's HR off Donnie Moore.

    I think it is quite possible that the tournament is operating at a loss. That doesn't mean the motive for the tournament is not financial. When businesses enter new markets, they frequently operate at a loss for several years. The motivation for entering the market is purely financial; however, it takes an investment and time for a market to become profitable. The same is true for this WBC. The empty stadiums indicate to me that the tournament is probably operating at a loss right now. MLB is hoping to develop future profitable markets. The only rational reason for a business to expose its most valuable assets to injury or loss is financial gain, whether it can be achieved in the short or long term. Without the financial motivation, the WBC would never have come to pass.

    I agree completely. IMO Hansen didn't get ruined by getting rushed to the majors. The kid just can't repeat his delivery, and he has never been able to correct that flaw. He's still young, so time has not completely run out on him. If he can't make the necessary adjustments, he will be a failure of his own accord. It will have nothing to do with getting rushed.

    Baseball is a business. Yes, it also does a lot of charitable and community work without ulterior motive. However, MLB would not subject it's most valuable assets to injury in a tournament unless it was motivated by financial considerations. To do otherwise would be stupid and reckless from a business perspective.

    Risk of what? I don't see how letting him get a few outings at the ML level would put him at "risk". It think it would be a good learning opportunity. If he were to flop, it would help him to identify the adjustments that he will have to make in order to be successful in the majors. If he were to succeed, there is nothing bad about that.

    Bard has done nothing but throw strikes all Spring. He has not struggled with command at all. He has had quite a few outings thus far and in my recollection, he hasn't struggled with command in one of them.

    He is just so strange and slimy that all the PR firms in the world cannot hide his weirdness.
