  1. Oddly, it didn't happen that often. Believe it or not, not too many guys could knock the ball 450 feet to reach the monuments.(sarcasm) Even if the batter beat the Center Fielder, the ball usually stopped rolling or was tracked down before it reached the monuments.
  2. Who gets the last roster spot, Carter or Bailey. Both have knocked the cover off the ball recently. Carter has 5 HRs, but Bailey is a RH bat and the roster is probably a bit unbalanced with LH batters.
  3. You are entitled to feel however you want, but so am I. The '76-08 stadium was a poor excuse as a replacement of the original Stadium. Unlike the original Stadium, the '76- '08 Stadium is a place where I have some of my fondest baseball memories. Am I sorry to see it go? No, it was an architecturally ugly stadium in a blighted neighborhood, so I don't give a damn. The original stadium was majestic. The '76-'08 stadium resembled a bedpan. I don't know why my feelings and opinion would invalidate your feelings and opinion. The '76- '08 field was completely different from the original stadium except for some superstructure. The field itself was also replaced-- several times.
  4. I hope he keeps voicing his opinion. In addition to being the best big game pitcher of his generation, he is a fan of the game. I look forward to his insights. I'd like to see him and Eck in studio after some Sox pitcher has stunk up the joint. That would be pretty entertaining.
  5. Tearing down a field that is 32 years old is disturbing? My house on LI is older. The original stadium -- the House that Ruth Built---has been gone since 1973. That's where Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio and the other All Time greats played. Once they tore down the original stadium, the majesty was gone. If you attended a game in the original stadium, you know what I mean. In the '76-08 stadium, there were no monuments in CF with a CF more than 460 feet from home plate and a left center field 457 feet away. Only a bona fide star power hitter could hit the ball out to Left Center Field. The stadium from 76- 08 was a pathetic replacement of the original. What's disturbing is that people treat that crappy place like it was the real Yankee Stadium.
  6. Oooh... still so bitter! I guess it is going to take a long time to for the bleeding rectums of the Yankee fans to heal. Schilling ended the chemically engineered Yankee Dynasty of the late 90's and then led the Yankees' chief rivals in a victory that humiliated the Yankees on their own field completing the biggest post season choke in the history of the game. The fact that Yankee fans hate him so much enhances his legend for Red Sox fans. He walks on water for us and ended his career with a World Series victory.:harhar:
  7. You are glad that he went out having thrown his last pitch in a World Series victory that brought a second World Championship to Boston? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
  8. He was the money in big games. He said he was coming to Boston to end an 86 year old curse, and in fact, he did a commercial where he made that exact statement. He made good on his boast. Couple the pre-season boast with the bloody sock game and Schilling's myth will grow for generations.
  9. I don't know if Jones will get any time with the big club this season, but I think Bard and Tazawa will get the call when the bullpen starts showing some wear and tear.
  10. Papelbon looked human again today giving up baserunners and runs, and JD Drew has been taken for X-Rays after being HBP on the hand.
  11. Walking around Fenway alone at night when there is no game is much different than walking around Yankee Stadium, which would be quite fear inducing.
  12. Lugo cracked the door open and Lowrie is going to kick it wide open.
  13. I think ORS was kidding.
  14. The Olympics cannot be compared to this tournament. The modern summer Olympics have more than a 100 year history and the winter Olympics have been around for more than 80 years. I am not a Hockey fan, so I am probably not the one to weigh in on this. However, the WBC is not comparable to the Olympics in stature or importance.
  15. Big Yaz fan here. He played everyday for 23 years whether he was injured or not. In his last few seasons he played with both wrists and ankles taped. Today's players are pussies in comparison. Welcome aboard.
  16. I was making the sign of the cross as I typed it.
  17. Mentioning Wakefield in the same sentence with Pedro is bordering on baseball blasphemy.
  18. In the 2004 WS, I was feeling much more secure with Pedro on the mound than Wakefield.
  19. How many empty seats were there for that game?
  20. Pressure situations that can destroy a pitcher's psyche to the point that he cannot succeed are rare... maybe the Bobby Thompson Shot Heard Around the World, the Joel Carter World Series winning home run or Hendu's HR off Donnie Moore.
