  1. I'd take Thames or Gardner over McDonald too.
  2. Even thought Lowell is older with a degenerative hip condition? Hmmm... interesting.
  3. I'd be much more confident if we were chasing the Mets or the Brewers.
  4. Don't call it a counter. Call it a reinforcement.
  5. I forgot. The Sox are small market.
  6. It is obvious... isn't it.
  7. Counter Points: No good fielder should ever look as bad as Scutaro has looked. He has been approaching Lugo-esque. Beltre's hands are good, but his head is a stone. Cameron... I watched him on the Mets when he was much younger, and he did not impress me then. He's a good fielder, but he's an old CFer who is not a top fielder anymore.
  8. So you'll relace him with Mike Lowell who had a .811 OPS last season and .810 for his career versus Ortiz .918 career OPS?
  9. I thought you had become demented. Whew.
  10. A gun to my head and I have to pick an aging veteran like Winn or a career minor leaguer like Mcdonald to play one game or one week or one month, yeah, I take my chances with Winn ever time.
  11. They were willing to eat $12 million on Mike Lowell. $2 million seems like chump change. They'll get more out of Nady than they got out of Smoltz last season for $5.5 million.
  12. Even terrible fielding teams have a few good guys. The team defense notwithstanding those guys has been terrible.
  13. Right now the catchers stink, the SS has been bad, and the Gold Glove 3B is in a fielding and thinking slump. Bill Hall is a mess in the OF and McDonald is not exactly Paul Blair either. Oh, and Hermida is no Yaz, not even Rice in LF. How would you sum that up? They are stinking right now in the field.
  14. Were you one of the posters that predicted that he was done last year too?
  15. Not a 31 year old minor leaguer.
  16. In 2008 they didn't make the playoffs. Before 2008, Tampa was a bad team. Now they are a force. They didn't have to contend with having the best two teams in the league being in their division. Last year the yankees were clearly better than everyone, and Tampa did have Price coming into his own nor did they have a closer.
  17. No, because Hall, McDonald and Varitek are in the lineup. Ortiz would have helped.
  18. To answer your question, I don't think they are playing up to their standards, but they don't have a lot of time to get back to playing up to their standards, and if they are going to dig out of any substantial hole, they'll need to play above their heads for an extended period.
  19. They have to start beating up on the bad teams and they have to show that they can beat the Yanks or the Rays. They haven't done any of this yet. If they dig a big hole against two good teams that they can barely play .500 against, they will not be able to catch them.
