  1. I've enjoyed his walk off hits, his ability to score from first when few major leaguers could, his ability to steal bases with ease, and his ability to chase balls down in the OF that neither Bay nor Werth would have a prayer of getting to. Yes, I am enjoying watching him perform, especially knowing how much better he can play. Have you not watched this guy wreck our team the last several years while on Tampa?
  2. It doesn't seem like a positive statement about the country. As far as your "nationalistic rant" remark, that is so far off base. I believe in less government, not more. I have little trust of governments that wield too much power, but I do believe the communities of Americans across this land are good and just. That is America, not the governmental entity. That is not a nationalistic sentiment in any way.
  3. That's about the size of it. Theo got a boner for the Japanese "national treasure" (his words not mine) and all it turned out to be was a big loss to write off.
  4. It a shame that you can't enjoy watching one of the games premier talents who is playing for your favorite team.
  5. Yes, Crawford sucks. And Pedroia has been scorching hot at the top of the lineup.
  6. You always have to get around to insulting the whole country. Of course, sports fans in other countries are so sophisticated and mature. They never would have riots at stadiums, nor would they kill officials of sporting events or participants. America sucks. You really should take up residence elsewhere if America annoys you so much.
  7. I fail to see how they will benefit from a marketing presence in Japan at all, never mind beyond Dice K's contract. The posting fee purchased no exclusive or shared right to market in Japan. The $52 million posting fee purchased a limited window to exclusively negotiate with Dice K. The other $52 million purchased Dice K's services. None of the investment purchased any right to market in Japan. The Red Sox have no more rights to market in Japan than any other team. They paid $104 million for essentially nothing.
  8. That's right that there is no verifiable figure for revenue for Japan attributable to Dice K. Anything that anyone says in this regard has no credibility. Until there is a statement from the Sox about revenue from Japan, no one knows. If they were recouping the $102 million, I think the Sox would be crowing about it so they wouldn't look so foolish for signing this guy.
  9. Saltalacrappia with HRs in 4 of his last 6 games. He is on a bit of a tear.
  10. Trade him for bullpen help.
  11. This game is getting Crawford's bat healthy.
  12. I didn't bitch about Dice K one year into the contract either. Plus, I have seen Crawford play for 7 years, and he tortured the Red Sox, so I think he will be worth the contract.
  13. I just checked the score. What a wild inning!!!
  14. I'm not talking about consistency over one year, but multiple years. He has been under contract for 5 years and he only took the ball every 5th day in one year. That is consistency -- consistent unreliability.
  15. Thank goodness it is not his surgical hand.
  16. He didn't have to be as good as he has become in Cincinnati. He just needed to be consistent and take the ball every 5th day. Those are two things that Dice K never did. BTW: the ballpark in Cincinnati is a total bandbox, so don't underestimate what he has achieved. One weekend Coco Crisp hit 2 or 3 HRs there that were way back in the seats.
  17. Not serious... so he should miss between 1 and 2 weeks.
  18. I never thought much of him from the first time I saw him at his first Spring Training. He was what Bobby V said he would be-- a back of the rotation starter. Way too much money was spent to fill that role, especially when we had the perfect #5 man who continues to take the ball every 5th day year in and year out-- Bronson Arroyo.
  19. Varitek had a really nice game. He hit a HR that ended up being the margin of victory, threw out two runners on attempted steals and called a very nice game. He was the player of the game.
  20. Varitek + Salty = 3 HRs Russell Martin 9 HRs
  21. Cue Dirty Water in Boston.
  22. Nice running catch by JD. Sutton didn't get back well on that ball.
  23. Luckily it is not a 1 run game.
