  1. I am curious as to when the trade Mookie stories really heated up, because the renewal period for season tickets ended December 17th. After that date, they release your seats, so you are under time pressure to make a decision. I let my tickets go only because the secondary market had evaporated. I would have been looking at a very large loss. It's a shame. They were really nice seats and I wanted to hold onto them until we relocated to MA in the next year or so to be near our children. Once I am living there, I will just go to every game that I can't sell. That is not an option living in NY.
  2. At 6'5" 180 lbs, when he turns sideways, it is hard to see him.
  3. I get it. Thanks for the clarification. Now that you have clarified that the post wasn't directed at me, the posters who complimented your post, will probably delete their complimentary posts.
  4. Sig bet that they don't
  5. Do you know how much season tickets cost? I am not a millennial, and I don't think any business person should lie to a customer's face as he is telling him why he should shell out $10 k for tickets. Sorry, that is not right. If they wanted to move Mookie and they said that was a possibility, I would have made an informed decision.
  6. When Bloom was introduced they had a conference call with season ticket holders. Kennedy was also present. The ticket renewal period was still open. Bloom was asked directly about Betts, and after what has since transpired, it looks very much like he just lied to us with the nodding approval of top brass. He was also very optimistic about fielding a competitive squad in 2020. People can call it what they want but, based on the statements at that meeting, I was convinced that Betts would not be traded for financial reasons and that Bloom would have to be overwhelmed to trade Betts. I feel that he was very misleading.
  7. They never lied to the fans like they did this season, and right after the season ticket renewal period passed, they dismantled the team and threw in the towel. I can’t remember them doing this in past years. Also, they usually didn’t have the chutzpah to raise ticket prices in years when they knew they would not try to compete. I was critical of Ben, but one thing doe which I always gave him high marks was his truthfulness. When he would say that he was happy with the pitching, others would say that he was playing his cards close to the vest, but I always took him at his word. He never lied to the fans. What was done this year really sucked. I don’t care if Bloom just carried the lie or was complicit in the lie. It is a big black mark against the organization.
  8. Pelosi’s back is healthier than Verdugo’s.
  9. They raised ticket prices and in the midst of the season ticket renewal period, they rolled out the new GM armed with lies to tell the season ticket holders that they would make best efforts to keep Mookie long term and to put out a competitive team. After the renewal period passed, they blew up the team and forfeited 2020 preemptively.
  10. Camp has started and we have 4 starting pitchers— one has pneumonia and another is post op and injury prone. Bloom has gone beyond being patient. He’s stymied imo. He has no clue how to build a roster for a big market team with a probing media. We have the highest ticket prices in baseball. The Red Sox don’t give away tickets with a tank of gas or for milk carton coupons. This roster looks like s*** right now.
  11. RIP. He was an excellent SS.
  12. Knowing about this lingering back issue that turns out to be a stress fracture, I would have preferred that they just got a basket full of A ballers.
  13. No that was when he suffered the life-threatening case of pins and needles.
  14. Oh, that shouldn’t be a problem at all for an everyday player. Because swinging a bat, running and throwing a ball doesn’t put any stress on the back. And let’s not forget how well Clay Buchholz bounced back to have a long durable career after the stress fracture in his back healed.
  15. Paralysis by analysis.
  16. His versatility is a plus. He, pretty good at several positions, and when healthy, his stick is good too. He’s an excellent bench player who can play for long stretches and be productive.
  17. Sorry to hear such terrible news. My condolences.
  18. That’s a pretty good description.
  19. It was intended as a salary dump. We were never going to get significant talent in return. You don’t get significant talent in a salary dump, and we did not. Just like in the AGon, Beckett salary dump, some people want to believe that we received some significant talent in return. They are dreaming. No one wants these guys to blow up, but I wouldn’t be buying their jerseys. LOL! It was a salary dump. We got a guy that hasn’t been able to play since August because of a back issue and will probably not be ready for the season. Maybe he can hang out with Pedey. Unlike others, I am not excited about the new acquisitions. We got a broken spare part and a seedling for one year of Betts. As a fan, I’d rather have watched one season of Betts. Imo, unless this 2020 team comes out of the gate smoking, the fan backlash on ticket sales and viewership will be tremendous.
  20. I couldn't access it. What did I miss?
  21. And that is part of the politicization of the issue of taxes. Statements like that are so common. But it is part of the politicization of the issue. The little guy and the middle class are already paying regressive taxes/ fees that are hidden in so many ways. People don’t even realize it. Advisers to the Senate Finance Committee know how to fix the tax system, but there is no political will to do it, and there never will be, because the politicians have trained the constituents on both sides of the aisle to have conditioned responses like yours and righteously defend those positions. And nothing gets done.
  22. Having worked in the tax area for over 30 years, I like to watch people’s heads explode when I tell them that Corporate income tax is a farce. There shouldn’t be any corporate income tax. It all gets passed through to the customer. If Corporate taxes go up and people cheer about the fat cats paying, they don’t realize that those taxes will be addressed by cost cutting (i.e. jobs) or product price increases passed onto the customer. Their profit margin remains unaffected. It all gets passed onto the consumer. There should be a national sales tax. Transactions of all types should be taxed and there should be no income tax. That would be the fairest and most transparent system. What we have now is a confusing mess that politicians and demagogues use to pander to their constituencies.
  23. I am sure that they tried to trade him at a reduced price, and again this consolation is like the people who look for losses at the end of the tax year for tax purposes. It's a loss... a loss should never be the goal.
  24. That's little consolation. It's like people who complain about capital gains because they have to pay taxes. I always tell them that no one goes broke from making a profit, and profits are better than non-taxable losses. Castillo falls into the loss category. That he isn't counted toward luxury tax is little consolation. It just illustrates that he is such a bust that they could move him off the 40 man roster without anyone claiming him -- not even at a discount.
  25. His salary would be an extra $10 million/year to pay the Luxury Tax.
