    Melancon continues to suck with an ERA a hair under 6. What a great "under the radar" acquisition! It was more like an "in the toilet" acquisition.

    It's pathetic that our ace gave up 4 runs in the first two innings to a last place team without 3 of its top 3 hitters. He should have been able to shut them down and win a low scoring game if the offense has an off night.

    Our starter dug us a 4-0 hole after 2 innings. It has a psychologically negative effect on our hitters to always be in a hole. It's not the fault of the offense. It our so-called ace pitchers.

    The safest bet in all of baseball is that the visitor will score first at Fenway park.

    Ranaudo is still pretty raw. I don't think we are hearing about him, because he isn't lighting the world on fire. He might get it done instead of Tazawa. Kalish and Ranaudo might be enough. Salty would be like whipped cream on top.

    I would look to move Kalish. He is blocked with us for at least another year, because I think they would be stupid not to re-sign Ross. We don't need him. Theo likes him. Also, see if Theo still has the hots for Salty. I am starting to suspect he is part of our pitching problem. And I would throw in a minor league pitcher, maybe Tazawa.

    If you move top prospects, you should get a top player who adds to your payroll. I don't consider Garza such a top pitcher. He's not Cliff Lee, Halladay, or Santana before the injury. He may not be as good as Santana is post op. I'd give one top prospect and speculative guys after that.

    He's never been a staff ace, but he has had some very solid seasons. This season he is not pitching very well, so they should not go over-board to get him. I remember seeing him at some Spring Trainings when he was with the Twins. He had the ability to get inside on our big hitters like Manny and Ortiz and break their bats. I thought that he was pretty impressive in that regard.

    It strikes me as odd that people say that closers have little worth for contractual reasons, but then they are willing to applaud a trade an everyday player who has become an All Star caliber player for a closer. I find that to be a bit contradictory. I am not directing this comment at you at all. It is just a general comment. Why is it better to pay with talent than cash for a closer?

    If the Red Sox had made that trade instead of KC, people of this forum would find a way to defend it the way they defend Reddick for Bailey.

    I could be mistaken, but I am fairly sure that I have heard some analysts say the opposite. I thought that their theory made sense, but your theor makes sense too. It's a good question for Eck if they ever have an "Ask Eck" segment. I did think it was a mistake when the pitcher came inside on Ross on the 1-0 pitch and he did pay when he came in a second time.

    Guys who come three quarters or side arm from the right side should never throw to the inside corner on RH hitters, because their delivery makes them bail out. The can hit the inside pitch, but are susceptible to the outside pitch. I think I have heard Eck talk about that. He came from the side and always painted the outside corner. When he came inside, it was generally off the plate.

    When he got the 1-0 pitch on the inside corner, I thought that was not where you pitch Ross if you are slinging the ball three-quarters. A pitcher with that delivery will have a righty bailing, so the pitch on the inside part of the plate will seem like it is over the middle. He wants to hit the outside corner, because Ross will be bailing and not be able to get the sweet spot of the bat on the ball.
