  1. He should not have been booed. I never boo our guys. I'll boo the umps and the manager, but very infrequently.
  2. Yes, your reading comprehension must be off. He was comparing Aviles to Scutaro as "his replacement". I pointed out that Scutaro had not been traded for Aviles. We had them both. If we had kept them both, they would have played in many of the same games due to the injuries to Pedroia, Youk and WMB. In fact, Aviles may have gotten some PT in the OF where he had played winter ball. That is why the Aviles to Scutaro comparison makes no sense. The comparison that makes sense is the Scutaro to Punto, the guy who took Scutaro's roster spot. That is not a close comparison, and the teeny tiny contribution from Mortensen does not make up for that difference. I can't say it any more clearly.
  3. He is in his class financially, but in no other way. I agree.
  4. ^ You might want to reconsider this statement. The years that we had Manny from age 29 to 36, pretty much could be stamped as awesome. His worst season was in 2007, and I 'll take that as a worst year any time.
  5. He stinks. He's a 27 year old minor leaguer bull pen guy that can't hit 90 on a radar gun. He was little more than a bag of balls. This thread may be your little known fact of the day nugget, but I ain't buying. He's a minor league roster filler and emergency call up guy. Once he no longer has options, he'll be of value to no team.
  6. .804 OPS and 17 HRs? Wow, They could have saved themselves about $17 million/yr to get those numbers from a bunch of other guys like Adam LaRoche, Mark Reynolds, Carlos Pena etc. The $17 million would have bought a nice stud. Gonzo isn't going to earn his money this season. There are no numbers that can be tortured to prove otherwise.
  7. This season he will not earn is paycheck. We'll have to see about the rest of his contract.
  8. While it always makes me happy when the Yankees lose, it doesn't help us when they are playing teams that are ahead of us. We have too many teams to climb over. Once they start playing each other, it will be very difficult to pick up ground. We need to win 8 of 10 now and hope the Yankees can help us by beating the teams in front of us. The division is not realistic for us. Even if the Yankees collapse, it would be Tampa or the O's that would overtake them. We need to catch those teams and the A's, Angels and White Sox.
  9. Wow! It took me decades to get so bitter and sarcastic.. I like the less saccharine version of E1 that is no longer convinced that the FO is not full of soaring intellects and geniuses. They are full of something, but it is not genius.
  10. Mortensen is a bush league bum who will not get enough major league time to qualify for the ML pension. Scutaro was not traded for Aviles. We already had Aviles. Scutaro is light years better than Punto. That's the other side of the story.
  11. Game called. Four game winning streak.
  12. Not a good thing for us. We need to climb over the Orioles. If they are for real, that's bad news for us.
  13. Looking at the contending teams and the players they acquired during the season prior to the deadline: Yankees: Ichiro, McGehee Orioles: Thome Tampa: Roberts White Sox: Liriano, Myers, Youkilis Tigers: Infante, Sanchez Rangers: Dempster, Soto, Oswalt Angels: Greinke Oakland: Kottaras, Inge Nationals: None Braves: johnson, Maholm, Sheets, Batista Reds: Broxton Pirates: Gaby Sanchez, Wandy Rodriguez, Snider, Quals St. Louis: Mujica Giants: Pence, Scutaro Dodgers: Victorino, HanRam, League, Choate Arizona: Chris johnson The 5 teams that will be fighting us for playoff spots: Yankees (not really in a fight), White Sox, Tigers, Angels, and Texas have really improved themselves. The A's are also fighting us, but didn't add much.
  14. I didn't say that he was terrible, but you can't judge him on 4 other starts against terrible offenses. The first and only good offense that he faced lit him up. That game was perspective.
