  1. Probably not a bad way to go-- Jackson (a guaranteed innings eater) and take a risk on jurjens.
  2. One big advantage that Jackson has over Sanchez is that he has been much more durable. He will be able to take the ball 30 times.
  3. yes, the context is that they have been doing a lousy job for several years preventing them from doing anything last year. That's no excuse. It's still a lousy job. We can only speculate what he would have cost. Even those who believe that he would have cost too much can't agree on which prospects he would have cost us. Let's just call a spade a spade. The Nats made one sweet deal.
  4. I disagree with you about Gio, but I am in total agreement with your assessment of the overall problem. There were many ways to go. Doing nothing is perplexing to me?
  5. I purchased my Spring Training tickets this morning. In the last 10 years, this was the easiest it has been to get tickets. There was absolutely no wait, and the best tickets were available. I think the advanced sale of the spring training tickets will be okay. The park only holds 9 or 10,000 and only diehards go to spring training. You don't see the pink hats. The old ladies with canes and walkers know the 40 man roster and our prospects. It's pretty cool to talk with these people. It takes more than a s***** team to discourage these folks. I wonder how the Advanced Sales of regular season tickets have been going? I think that is where the numbers will fall if they don't improve the team.
  6. I have followed the progress of the guys that the Nats gave up. They got a very good deal. Plus, they got a sweet contract extension for Gio.
  7. Yep, and I think you had cautioned people last year that the big fish would be extended by their teams and not be available.
  8. That deal had upper managements fingerprints all over it. They probably let Cherington negotiate the prospects coming back. IMO, JH and LL didn't really care if they got anything back. They needed to get enough back that the deal would be approved by Selig. None of the guys that the Dodgers gave up had any career path to the majors for the Dodgers except for the one pitcher coming of TJ (and he probably projects as a bullpen guy)?
  9. We like to sit and hope that Cherries has a good plan that he is working on implementing, but then you watch a long list of pitchers come off the boards and read about him making big offers to the likes of Dempster and Lohse. It makes you scratch your head.
  10. He will not be the center of attention in NY. There are so many other big egos in NY fighting for media time that he would fly under the radar. Boston puts its athletes under a more intense microscope. I think a big metropolis whether it be Boston, NY or some other big city is less of a threat to an addict. There is much more to keep the addict busy or occupied. The boredom of a small town IMO would be more difficult to handle. People make a big deal about the press affecting him. I think when you get to the level where you have handled the real pressure of going out and performing for years in front of big crowd standing in the batters box against major league pitchers throwing 95 mph where the spotlight is on you that the press is almost a non factor to the players. Unlike you, I don't want to see the Yankees get this guy.
  11. Yep, I can see that one coming. Well, if that ends up being the case, I had better get tickets for opening day, because that will be the highlight of our season.
  12. This is also uninspiring.
  13. This doesn't inspire much confidence.
  14. Why? Do you want to see if he can knock the upper deck off Yankee Stadium in right field?
  15. A long list of pitchers have changed uniforms. If they fail to address this need again, we wil be in for another horrible season, regardless of whether we snag Hamilton.
  16. The MFYs may get lucky and get out of ARod's contract if he is finished. That would suck.
  17. That's how the Yankees have been bagging FAs and trades for years. They make their best offer and the tell the player or GM that the offer expires when they walk out the door. That's what our guys need to do.
  18. So, he is about as good as Brett Gardner for $39 million?
  19. Another pitcher comes off the board.
  20. Hey Spud, How have you been. We've missed you around here. The King needs a jester. Seriously, are you leaving the country? We reelect the commie socialist ideologue that you have always wanted and you leave the country. How's your family doing? Your son is going to MIT? How's your daughter? Is the ex giving you any problems? Did you ever get anywhere with that lawsuit for the personal injury when you got clobbered by that door. You see, we have questions too.
  21. In his first year with Texas, I was at a game where he absolutely flattened a pitch ti CF. The ball left the park like it was shot out of a canon.
  22. Of the two, I think the move Grandy, unless they have reason to believe the PED rumors about Cano.
  23. Those teams were built around Manny and Pedro. They were the offensive and pitching centerpieces. Everyone else complemented them. If Hamilton is signed, he will become the centerpiece. It would be nice to have a pitching centerpiece too. Hamilton will not hit 18 HRs like AGon. The boy hits screaming bombs. A friend of mine met Jered Weaver at a Craps table in Vegas about 3-4 years ago. He told my friend that the only hitter he was afraid to pitch to was Hamilton. He is concerned for his safety with that beast 60 feet 6 inches away.
  24. He's not a pitcher. He is in his prime years.
