  1. I'd rather have offered Haren $16 million for one year to get him away from the Nats than to give Dumpster 2 yrs/ $26 million.
  2. I don't see the need for him. Victorino will play RF everyday. Ross will not platoon with Gomes, because both are right handed. Probably, Kalish is the 4th OF. I think it is more likely that they sign a first baseman who can also play the OF and bat left handed, like Swisher.
  3. They are talking to Youkilis.
  4. Worse yet, he takes 45 minute to decide whether or not to eat at Denny's.
  5. He's 2 for 2 at the Winter Meetings. Will he pull off a 3rd deal today?
  6. Vargas for Ellsbury would be highway robbery by the Mariners. They would jump at that deal.
  7. I like the way this newbie thinks.
  8. Victorino is a pretty good player. He's a huge upgrade over what we have been rolling out there in the last 2 years. He is a tremendous fielder. I have seen him play a lot when he was with the Phillies. He always seemed to hurt the Mets more than any Philly other than Utley. I remember a few years ago against Johan (before the injury) he took Johan deep for a big Grand Slam. I was surprised at two things: 1. The size of the contract, but Cherries doesn't have the time to negotiate the lowest possible price. He has too much work to do. 2. His splits against RHP. Overall, he is a solid addition for RF, and I don't think that it necessarily a precursor to moving Ells.
  9. This fills a need for the Rays.
  10. We spent $39 million on a guy who, at this point in his career, is little better than Brett Gardner.
  11. It scares me that Farrell wants to run more. In 2 seasons in Toronto, his team ran like chickens with their heads cut off. Their running game was so amateurish that it was laughable. I do not want to see him bring that act to Boston. He did bring his idiot third base coach, so I am very worried.
  12. Josh Willingham got a contract for 3/$24 last year and that was too pricy for the Sox who opted for 1 year of Cody Ross at $3 million. Now, Victorino gets $37-39 million?
  13. I'll have to look again, but I thought his career splits against RHP are not very good. They certainly don't justify $13 million/year for 3 years. Were they just looking to give away money here? Put this in the context of what Ortiz makes, and it just looks stupid.
  14. They have paid much too much for him to be a platoon player, but his splits scream platoon player. He is awful against RHP and I don't think Fenway will help that. His splits were awful in the bandbox in Philly.
  15. That's a good point. I don't get this move. His splits against RHP are terrible.
  16. Maybe Victorino will be used in a platoon type role. His splits against Left-Handed pitching have been markedly better than what he has done against righties.
  17. IDK, $13 mil/yr for 3 years of Victorino is so much less exciting to me than 1 year/$13 million for Haren would have been.
  18. I don't get this move if this happens. Victorino is very mediocre.
  19. I really like the moves that the Nats have made in the last 2 post seasons. They weren't all gems, but they have built themselves a very formidable squad.
  20. I think we missed out here.
  21. Three way deals are complicated and they can fall apart very easily. Cherries has so much work to do that a 3 way would take too much time and energy IMO. Maybe he could pursue it after he has all of his other pieces in place.
