    With the other suitors out of the way and a seemingly clear path for Cherries, I hope he doesn't dither too long looking for the best possible deal, because that is when Cashman can strike with a take it or leave it offer that is too good to turn down. He hits 50 in that bandbox. Cherries didn't quibble with Victorino. If they want Hamilton, just get it done.

    His velocity was down around 5 mph. That was the most concerning thing. He was a 1 inning reliever for the lat 3 months of the season and never regained his velocity. Very concerning. He was a danger to batters, because he had no idea where the ball was going. If I was the opposing manager, I would have hit the first 2 Sox batters after Bard pitched to send Bobby V the message that it was irresponsible to send Bard to the Mound. He almost killed Encarnacion twice last year. He was very lucky that he got his head out of the way. It's possible that he recovers his command, but can he recover the lost 5 mph?

    How many of his outings did you see when he came back to the big club? Did you see any of his outings at Pawtucket?

    Bard is a big long shot. If he can recover anything close to his past form, it will be a pleasant surprise. I don't think he can be counted as a back of the bullpen guy. I have to believe that people who are optimistic about him did not see him pitch at the end of the season for the Sox. He was atrocious.- no stuff no command, nothing.

    I'd rather have offered Haren $16 million for one year to get him away from the Nats than to give Dumpster 2 yrs/ $26 million.

    I don't see the need for him. Victorino will play RF everyday. Ross will not platoon with Gomes, because both are right handed. Probably, Kalish is the 4th OF. I think it is more likely that they sign a first baseman who can also play the OF and bat left handed, like Swisher.

    Vargas for Ellsbury would be highway robbery by the Mariners. They would jump at that deal.

    Victorino is a pretty good player. He's a huge upgrade over what we have been rolling out there in the last 2 years. He is a tremendous fielder. I have seen him play a lot when he was with the Phillies. He always seemed to hurt the Mets more than any Philly other than Utley. I remember a few years ago against Johan (before the injury) he took Johan deep for a big Grand Slam. I was surprised at two things: 1. The size of the contract, but Cherries doesn't have the time to negotiate the lowest possible price. He has too much work to do. 2. His splits against RHP. Overall, he is a solid addition for RF, and I don't think that it necessarily a precursor to moving Ells.

    We spent $39 million on a guy who, at this point in his career, is little better than Brett Gardner.

    It scares me that Farrell wants to run more. In 2 seasons in Toronto, his team ran like chickens with their heads cut off. Their running game was so amateurish that it was laughable. I do not want to see him bring that act to Boston. He did bring his idiot third base coach, so I am very worried.
