  1. I didn't say that they have no trade value. They might have trade value in a salary dump deal- like the way we got Webster and De La Rosa, but they don't have the type of trade value necessary to pry away a future #1 from a team. Under what scenario could you envision the package that you put together in your post above netting us a future #1 pitcher from another team? None of those guys would help put a team over the top to win now, and the only reason why a team would part with a blue chip future ace would be to win now? I asked where the next big ace will come from, and clearly, you have no plausible strategy for getting one down the road.
  2. I honestly think that the package mentioned in your post is not going to get any interest when trying to pry away a #1 type future starter. You are over rating their value. The Sox will need to dig deeper than that to get their next big pitcher.
  3. Where does Pineda fit in the 2013 plans for the Yankees?
  4. I realize that Felix Hernandez is not the next big pitcher. That is why I said "Felix Hernandez type pitcher". You are not going to get the next Felix Hernandez with a collection of guys who project possibly to the middle of the rotation.
  5. But they are so uncertain with regard to their MLB prespects that the FO cannot sit and wait for one of them to be next big stud pitcher that we are looking for. No one projects any of these kids to be that type of pitcher, not even you. I asked you where we will get the next big pitcher and you answered that we could get him by packaging some of these guys. You don't get a Felix Hernandez type pitcher for a collection of guys whose ceilings are middle of the rotation. It ain't gonna happen.
  6. That's right. Average major league pitching would have won several more games for us in 2012. It probably would have kept them in the Wild Card race.
  7. Barnes has my interest, but he has to dominate at AA before he can be taken seriously as a future #1. De La Rosa is probably a bullpen guy. The rest are not anything to cause excitement. I don't think they even havre any trade value.
  8. Okay E1, let's assume all Red Sox fans get prescriptions for medical marijuana and we start popping xanax too so we get all mellowed out. Where will the next pitching stud come from if he is not out there now? The farm system? I am not holding my breath, because organizationally we can't evaluateor develop pitchers well at all. When will such a pitcher become available? Is he playing in college? Has he been born yet?
  9. IMO, Jackson at 3 yrs would not glut up the rotation. Lackey will come off the payroll in 2 years and we really have very little invested in our pitching.
  10. Yep, the steak analogy was just stupid. I'm going for a second steak.
  11. Probably not a bad way to go-- Jackson (a guaranteed innings eater) and take a risk on jurjens.
  12. One big advantage that Jackson has over Sanchez is that he has been much more durable. He will be able to take the ball 30 times.
  13. yes, the context is that they have been doing a lousy job for several years preventing them from doing anything last year. That's no excuse. It's still a lousy job. We can only speculate what he would have cost. Even those who believe that he would have cost too much can't agree on which prospects he would have cost us. Let's just call a spade a spade. The Nats made one sweet deal.
  14. I disagree with you about Gio, but I am in total agreement with your assessment of the overall problem. There were many ways to go. Doing nothing is perplexing to me?
  15. I purchased my Spring Training tickets this morning. In the last 10 years, this was the easiest it has been to get tickets. There was absolutely no wait, and the best tickets were available. I think the advanced sale of the spring training tickets will be okay. The park only holds 9 or 10,000 and only diehards go to spring training. You don't see the pink hats. The old ladies with canes and walkers know the 40 man roster and our prospects. It's pretty cool to talk with these people. It takes more than a s***** team to discourage these folks. I wonder how the Advanced Sales of regular season tickets have been going? I think that is where the numbers will fall if they don't improve the team.
  16. I have followed the progress of the guys that the Nats gave up. They got a very good deal. Plus, they got a sweet contract extension for Gio.
  17. Yep, and I think you had cautioned people last year that the big fish would be extended by their teams and not be available.
  18. That deal had upper managements fingerprints all over it. They probably let Cherington negotiate the prospects coming back. IMO, JH and LL didn't really care if they got anything back. They needed to get enough back that the deal would be approved by Selig. None of the guys that the Dodgers gave up had any career path to the majors for the Dodgers except for the one pitcher coming of TJ (and he probably projects as a bullpen guy)?
  19. We like to sit and hope that Cherries has a good plan that he is working on implementing, but then you watch a long list of pitchers come off the boards and read about him making big offers to the likes of Dempster and Lohse. It makes you scratch your head.
  20. He will not be the center of attention in NY. There are so many other big egos in NY fighting for media time that he would fly under the radar. Boston puts its athletes under a more intense microscope. I think a big metropolis whether it be Boston, NY or some other big city is less of a threat to an addict. There is much more to keep the addict busy or occupied. The boredom of a small town IMO would be more difficult to handle. People make a big deal about the press affecting him. I think when you get to the level where you have handled the real pressure of going out and performing for years in front of big crowd standing in the batters box against major league pitchers throwing 95 mph where the spotlight is on you that the press is almost a non factor to the players. Unlike you, I don't want to see the Yankees get this guy.
  21. Yep, I can see that one coming. Well, if that ends up being the case, I had better get tickets for opening day, because that will be the highlight of our season.
  22. This is also uninspiring.
  23. This doesn't inspire much confidence.
  24. Why? Do you want to see if he can knock the upper deck off Yankee Stadium in right field?
