  1. Morales wasnt just bad against the Yankees, he was atrocious. He gave up 8 Homers in two abbreviated starts. On the other hand, Doubront had at least two brilliant outings versus the Yanks. That shows me that he doesn't shrink in big moments. Morales comes apart at the seams when he faces a potent offense.
  2. Hopefully, Napoli has another suitor and we can get a true first baseman that is healthy.
  3. It speaks volumes that Sands could not wrestle the Dodger job from Loney.
  4. A "fringe starter for us"? He was with us for 6 games before Theo inexplicably traded him for the punch-less Casey Kotchman. Since then LaRoche has been pretty productive except in 2011 which he missed most of with injury.
  5. If the guy has a bad hip, they should just walk away, not try to negotiate the price down or put contingencies in the contract. Big deal, if they get the injury contingency in the contract. If his hip keeps him from playing, they would be off the hook financially, but they'd have no first baseman/catcher. Big whoop. Move on and get a healthy body, not one held together with bubble gum and duct tape.
  6. The trade was a great move if we got no one in return. If either of the remaining 2 of the 5 bodies we received ever pitches an entire big league season, it will be icing on a very sweet cake. I would set the odds at 50/50 that either of them ever pitches a full season for the Sox as a starter.
  7. I like Berkman. He is a much better hitter than Napoli if he has anything left in his tank.
  8. I was pissed the first time around when after only a few games we traded LaRoche for the punchless Casey Kotchman. That still doesn't make sense to me.
  9. Yep, I think any organization would be thrilled with a 50% success ratio.
  10. I hope that you are right. The Dodgers have not been known to trade away there best pitching prospects. Probably the most notable exception to this was Pedro who they never believed would be durable enough to be a starter. Usually, the dodgers pump up their prospects reputations and unload them to other teams where they fail. Hopefully, this is another Pedro case. The dodgers are due for a screw up. It's been almost 20'years since Pedro.
  11. agreed, Morales would be a good depth option.
  12. Our system is not loaded with pitching talent. These guys are nothing special. Webster is slightly better as a prospect than Zach Stewart was. People tried to convince themselves that he was a possible back of the rotation starter for us before ended up in palooka- ville after the end of the season. I loved the LA trade, but people are over-estimating by a large margin what we got back.
  13. I am not criticizing the trade at all. As I said when it was just a rumor, I didn't care if we got anyone in return as long as they took the salaries. That was what it was all about. I think the Commisioner might have stepped in if it had not been a big market team like the Sox doing the selling. If it had been KC and not the Red Sox, it might have been a different outcome with the Commish.
  14. It was a trade that had to be made, and JH and LL had no interest in who came back. They just wanted the trade to go through. How people can look at that trade as building our system is a bit overly optimistic. We have already gotten rid of Loney, DeJesus, and Sands. The fact that the other two are top ten prospects for us speaks volumes for the lack of pitching talent in our system.
  15. it was always obvious that the trade was first and foremost a salary dump. They got 3 All Star quality players without giving up their top hitting or pitching prospect. LA included nothing but players for which they had no future use and just enough tht it didn't look like we sold the players.
  16. It remains to be seen whether they will be useful to us beyond De La Rosa becoming a reliever. Getting one reliever for AGon, Beckett, and Crawford for one guy that might be a reliever is a salary dump. That's pretty obvious.
  17. Two of the four players that we got from LA have been dumped. Two are left. It's starting to look more and more like a salary dump where we got just enough in return that the Commissioner would let it go through. We never wanted any of those guys, except De La Rosa who is probably a reliever.
  18. Cervelli is trash.
  19. Brock Holt? I didn't see that coming. I was really hoping for Garett Jones. Good riddance to Melancon. What a turd! Ben thought his career was emerging, but it was about to submerge. Maybe he'll be a useful MIR guy for the Pirates. You don't use valuable trade chips to get a MIR guy.
  20. Of the guys you mentioned, only morales could be counted on to be depth in 2013. The others will be either purely short relievers or minor league starters with very little chance of being anything other than emergency starters.
  21. DLowe may not be the answer. I would not argue that he is the answer, but our rotation is thin and not very strong and there is no depth.
  22. Williams was in a class by himself as a hitter. He was beyond being a generational hitter. Generations have passed and no one has come close to being as good as the Splid Splinter. The only point that I was making was that Miggy like Stan the Man is not at the top of everyone's mind because he suffers from not being in a media capital. If DiMaggio can be in a discussion with Williams, Musial must also be considered, because he was a better hitter than Joe D. Miggy can be compared favorably with any hitter on any day.
  23. Who else could be the centerpiece?
  24. I am not quite sure what to make of this.
  25. Lillibridge has way more talent than Nava, plus he can play IF and OF, and he had Zero trade value. The guy we got is a 26 old non- prospect. Maybe someday if he is lucky he will be an emergency arm for a depleted pen on the Pawtucket shuttle. Nava could not even net us this type of player in a trade. He's certainly not going to entice the Pirates to add Garret Jones to the Hanrahan deal.
