With a man on third and less than 2 out, yes that is sound logic.

I'd rather face Lyle Overbay than Texeira -- a career .895 OPS (.807 on a bad year). Heck, I'd rather face Napoli who has a 1 out of 3 chance of striking out. Star or not, Tex is an upgrade for the Yankee lineup.

I understand all that, but it is easy to be cocky from behind a keyboard when you live in Boston. I live among the vermin and I have too often seen limping wounded dying Yankee teams come back to life to beat better Red Sox teams than this 2013 team. As we sit and debate the merits of getting Cliff Lee versus sacrificing our furture, thos SOBs may come in scoop him up and then never miss a beat next year or in the foreseeble future. I will play the safe course and wait for them to be placed on a ventilator before I unleash my rath, but when I do, oit will be extremely brutal.

I will refrain from dancing on the Yankees grave until they are further behind than 2 games . It is a bitter lesson that I earned by living in NY my entire life. They have played much better than anyone had expected as have the Sox. The smoke is clearing for the Yanks and their mirrors are shattering, but they are starting to. I don't get their stars back. Granderson will return next and then Jeter. I'd like to bury them 10 deeep before the ASB. I don't like them hanging around in striking distance.

3-0 lead needing 4 innings from the pen. If they started the game on time, we probably get 7 or 8 from Buch and the late inning guys close it out.

He makes some plays going up the middle that other second basemen just can't make, because his arm is so strong. He can throw the ball across his body while moving toward the middle of the diamond.

I think you are under-estimating those aspects of Cano's game. He has excellent range and hands, and he has the best throwing arm of any second baseman.

Very nice play by Nava. That's a much harder play than it looks in that corner.

He tried it once and he said that hitting lefty against a lefty freaked him out.

It's another reason why the game is not as good as before big money free agency. Before big money hit the game, stars could lose their jobs to kids. It wasn't a big deal to sit anyone, because none of them made big money. They didn't have to justify a guy's salary by playing him and hoping he would come out of his slump.

I never thought it was possible for nava to win a full time spot, but he has. He is very adequate in LF or RF and he has learned 1B as well. He makes good contact, has very good OBP and he is showing unexpected power. He has been very very consistent. Playing this well for 2 months is more than a hot streak. Gomes has been a bust. He just can't get started.
