  1. With Davis off the table, who else could be an OF target for the Sox?
  2. Skaggs got several shots with the big club last year and spit the bit each and every time. Maybe they suspect that he will not live up to his big prospect tag. As for Cahill, he had one very good year, but other than that, he has been a #4 or 5 starter type. I think that it is a pretty fair trade.
  3. His record as a troll on TalkSox is like Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak. It will not be broken in our lifetime.
  4. Emmz could play Name that Dutchy and she could unmask him based on his first post. You probably don't need to check an IP address just as Emmz. She has busted him every single time.
  5. Dutchy is back? What a loser!! LOL!! Start the count down for the ban hammer.
  6. This is an appeal, not an investigation. I remember reading that the appeal would go into the offseason, but I don't recall reading that the administrative appeal would be dragged out until February.
  7. I am starting to wonder what is going on with ARod's appeal of his suspension. It is only about 2 weeks until Christmas and there is still no disposition of theis case. The way this has been dragging on must be making the execs at MLB uncomfortable. It is possible that this is taking so long because ARod has some leverage. If this case is decided at the beginning of next year, ARod will have an opportunity to appeal to a court. During the appeal, his attorneys are likely to ask for injunctive relief allowing him to play and get paid during the appeal. This would be very disruptive to the Yankee roster and payroll. I love that this case is dragging out.
  8. Maybe so, but besides Red Sox involvement, there doesn't seem to be any evidencE of teams being poised to make a deal. I'd be surprised if the Rays part with Price. Also, I haven't heard much about Headley being shopped.
  9. I don't think he is well-liked by the players.
  10. It doesn't seem that there is a lot of anticipation among baseball fans or the media around the upcoming GM meetings. There are usually a couple of hot rumors going into the meetings. What is the scuttlebutt this year?
  11. Time for optimism? Not for me. It's time for pride and joy. The Red Sox are the World Champions.
  12. Here's an idea for the Yankees to help solve their logjam in the outfield with Gardner, Ellsbury, Beltran, Ichiro and Soriano. With Cano gone, put Soriano back at his original position-- second base. LOL! Soriano at second and Old Man River at SS. What an infield that would be!!
  13. Yes, and managers don't get excuses for not winning when they are expected to win. They just get fired. No one would have blamed Farrell if the 2013 Sox had 85 wins. His team was not expected to win, but if he pulled a Dale Sveum, he'd get one more year before he would get fired whether or not the team sucked. Girardi's team was expected to win. It didn't.
  14. 20-20 hindsight.
  15. Yes, but the yankees trading with the Red Sox? That is a major stumbling block.
  16. Napoli's cost is $3 million more. They shed $8 million with Drew and shed payroll with Ellsbury. I wouldn't be surprised if they do make a trade that it will be Peavy that gets traded, because of his cost. Do you agree that they will not be adding to payroll since they are bumping up against the cap? I am saying don't expect much. It will be the same team, minus a few pieces.
  17. Every once in a while Lester needs a kick in the ass to stop bitching at the umps and challenge the hitters. It was not a big problem this year, but I welcome a big outspoken no nonsense catcher who will get in a pitcher's face. Fisk was like that.
  18. Re-signing Napoli and tinkering with a bullpen is not what I would term heavy lifting. We will be rolling out the same team as last year but with a lot less speed. Last year's team won 97 games and a Championship. There is nothing wrong with that. That is a good thing. I am not criticizing him. He is not dismantling the 2013 team. He is staying the course. The whole off season was built around keeping Napoli.
  19. The article doesn't say what they are calling him.
  20. We retained Napoli and we will be losing 3 of our starting players from last season. There will be no big acquisitions. Cherries pretty much came out and said that. I take him at his word. He has earned the right to rest on his laurels. That is what I expect him to do.
  21. He's missed the playoff in 2 of his 6 seasons with the skanks and the players despise him.
  22. A.J. is a solid pro who plays the game hard and smart. Today's pitchers need a kick in the ass. Too bad for them if they don't like to hear it when they suck.
  23. We haven't added payroll. I wouldn't expect them to pull a Miami Marlins sell off, but they are not going to make any big acquisitions or moves. Drew will leave Ellsbury and Salty have left. We replaced Salty.
  24. He's a great hitter. I acknowledge that, but the new stadium has helped boost his power production. 362 to RCF is a joke. I wouldn't be surprised if Ellsbury's HR production is over 20 this season, and I expect big HR numbers from Beltran if healthy. Cano will be leaving a division with 3 of the top 9 HR friendly parks. The parks in the AL West give up a lot fewer HRs. I think that his HR production will fall, but I agree that he will hit and contend for batting titles.
  25. After winning a championship, there is a tendency to rest on your laurels.
