  1. The Dodgers have done very well at over-hyping their prospects and then trading them. It has been a major part of their playbook for as long as i can remember.
  2. I would be surprised that he did not change that opinion after a year at home with his wife and 4 kids.
  3. I had forgotten that we had signed Ross for 2 years.
  4. Did LL say that we were in on Hannigan who would be paired with Ross? Maybe they let Ross walk and pair Hannigan with Lavarnway. I agree with Doji that Hannigan and Roiss would be redundant. I'd prefer to have on or ther other paired with Lavarnway to see what he has at the MLB level.
  5. That is crazy money for him.
  6. Didn't you also catch a foul ball this season? In 2013, you catch a foul ball, you played Frisbee with Sox players, the Sox win the World Series, and you gave a lift to the team president who gave you a scoop. 2013 is one memorable year for you!
  7. They are in a similar position that the Red Sox were going into 2013. They have talent, but some glaring holes and a lack of heart. Their GM is faced with the same types of challenges as Cherries was last year.
  8. He's likeable? Who cares.
  9. I don't really disagree with iortiz. I think the Ivy's stink at the undrgraduate level. Some do have excellent graduate programs.
  10. I agree with MVP about Harvard, and hold similar opinions about most of the other Ivy League Universities. The education they provide at the undergraduate level is almost wholly useless. Their graduates enter the work force as entitled brats that don't know how to work, and even worse, many think that work is beneath them. I have worked with many of them over the years. They look great on paper, but they very few are good at their job. There is still value in the degree, because they do get jobs, whereas graduates from other colleges anf universities have a very difficult time getting employment.
  11. If you are seeing bitching about Ben, you have a really warped filter.
  12. Hopefully, he doesn't end up with the Skanks.
  13. Ellsbury was on 2 championship teams. He is the fastest guy that I have seen in a Red Sox uni in my lifetime. I love the element of elite speed that he brings to the game. I would be happy to keep him with the Red Sox. I don't really care much about extra draft picks. That doesn't excite me anywhere near the excitement that I feel when Ells hits one in the gap or down the line or when he takes off to steal second base.
  14. Yep, there is plenty of time. His price and years will not inflate too much due to his hip condition.
  15. It's now or never for Lavarnawy. If they aren't going to give him his chance in 2014, they should part company with him.
  16. I am still basking in the glow too. This off season is flying by. In a couple of weeks, I will be making my Spring Training plans.
  17. At 3/46, Granderson would be an excellent value. He is a top talent due for a big bounce back year. I like the analogy to Victorino, but I think Granderson will get a lot more interest than Victorino. There were worries that a small guy like Victorino was starting to break down physically. Grand, as you point out, has had contact injuries, not wear and tear injuries. I also like Kendrys Morales, but we might be too left-handed to add him.
  18. I concur. Tito should have been the landslide winner in 2004 and 2007, and Farrell should have had no competition for 2013.
  19. Epstein is a non-entity as far as I am concerned. He's a suit from the past. Unlike a former player from glory days, he will not be invited back to take bows or trot out on the field with a jersey on to throw out a first pitch. In 2 seasons with the Cubs he finished next to last with 100 losses and followed that up with a last place finish. If he doesn't get the team above .500 in year 3, I think Cubs fans will become really disenchanted with his program. IMO he took the wrong guy with him when he took Hoyer. I am glad that he left us with Ben the Boob.
  20. I'd trade Webster or Rubby.
  21. As long as Ben doesn't get rid of Ortiz or Pedroia, I'll have no complaints with his offseason plan. Three championships in ten years-- O am still pinching myself. I'd like to see Ells stay, but if Cherries let's him walk that's okay too. BTW, this off season will fly by. Last year, our hot stove discussions started in August. The off season seemed to take forever. We are already in November and our season finished one week ago.
  22. Didn't Shoppach cause trouble when we had him whining about playing time? I think that he was also a problem subsequently in the Mets clubhouse. Why not stick with Ross?
  23. I wouldn't give a 32 year old with a degenerative hip condition a 3 year contract. I'd let him walk before I gave him that length.
  24. With his hip condition, he is not a good candidate for a multi-year contract. He should be a fairly easy 1 year re-sign.
  25. After 2004, we lost 3 guys to free agency-- OCab, Pedro and Lowe. Tek was also a FA. This year Napoli, Drew, Salty and Ells are eligible for free agency. Losing Pedro and Lowe was very disruptive to our pitching and that was magnified by Schilling's injury that cost him a lot of time oit of the rotation. If we lose some or all of this year's crop, it shouldn't be too disruptive to the team. Personally and as a fan, I would prefer that Ells be retained. The others are more easily replaceable. Ells speed is an elite weapon and very rare commodity. I'd be disappointed to lose him.
