The guy also had a chronically bad elbow that should have been closely examined. And they paid something like $24 million more than his next highest offer. I will mea culpa that I wanted to get the guy, but I did not want to overpay him to the point of payroll gridlock and take him with a known physical condition.
2014 will be Theo's third year. I would expect a .500 record by year 3. If he can't manage that, IMO his plan is not on track. Also, the Cubs very loyal fan base has been going to the park less often, down 400,000 from 2011.
There is no schtick. The fact s are that Epstein has never proved that he can build anything from the ground up. He came to a Boston team loade with young stars on the cusp of becoming a powerhouse. He put on the last few brick to finish the job, and he deserves credit for that. He also took the powerhouse and once he had autonomy he deconstructed the powerhouse and left it decimated.
He is getting his first real chance at building something from the ground up in Chicago. He is entering his third year. I'd expect at least a .500 record in 2014 if his plan is on track.
I am glad that we have Cherries who found a way to build a Championship team 1 year after inheriting a team and orgnization in disarray.
Put him on ignore and let him pick his fights with someone else. Let me get this straight, he has his underwear tied in knots because you kidded him that he must be independently wealthy because he is on the internet all day. That should tell you that he just looking for a fight. Answer him with silence. Anything he adds on the baseball side of the ledger is undone by all the fighting. Engaging with him is not worth it when he has it in for you.
Epstein's model is going into year 3 in Chicago. He has a 100+ and 90+ loss seasons under his belt, and with the Astros going to the AL, he has last place all to himself.
I agree. Arizona screwed up and did not maximize these assets. They waited too long until they were exposed and their stock fell. They waited much too long on Skaggs. I think his Rookie status is gone. His stock is very low right now. That being said, Trumbo is a legit power bat.
Bauer like Skaggs has been very unimpressive in his appreciated opportunities at the major league level. They received good everyday ballplayers for pitching prospects who have been disappointing thus far in limited but repeated mlb trials.
