  1. Put it this way. You remember the scene at the end of episode 3 of STar Wars where Obi is screaming at Anakin while he's injured on the ground "You were supposed to be the savior!"...well I felt the same way, just imagine Taylor with his million dollar arm broken from a stupid bar fight just a year or two after sufferign through the humiliation of a 100 win loss season...ugh
  2. his name is briEn Taylor
  3. I predict a trade for Johan in the winter where we give up 2 or 3 top prospects and at least 1 young guy on the ML roster.
  4. congrats to the Sox. You had the best team all year and it showed. Don't have too much fun, talksox fans.
  5. I love the move. The big offense has gotten us nowhere the past few years. Let this be the start of a rebuilding or retooling, whatever you want to call it. I'm willing to bite the bullet for a couple of years if it means bigger payoff down the road. Hell any fan who went through the Mel Hall, Stump Merrill years wouldn't mind this. I been hungry before, hell I remember when Matt Nokes was our only all star rep, I can be hungry again. And please, it wasn't about the fans. He got plenty of love in Texas and Seattle. The guy is probably the greatest overall slugger in the game today. and I thank him for the two regular season MVP's. I wish ill luck on whatever team signs him to his $300M contract the same way I laughed and wished ill luck on the Rangers when they signed him to that $250M contract.
  6. Kilo, thanks for all your posts lately, they make for good reading....but you are kind of going overboard with the sentence by sentence reply thing. once in a while is cool, but it gets kind of tedious after a while
  7. Sorry to see you go Joe...I woulda liked to see you stay but only if you got a more aggressive bench coach (Bowa?) to balance out your comatose state which is perfect for the 162 game marathon. You got to go out on your own terms of some sort after having to twist for a bit. I hope the Yanks bring you back in a FO or consultant role after the wounds have been healed.
  8. I seem to recall that Jose Guillen had comparable power numbers to Drew. So maybe he could be an option. Admittedly, I don't know much about his defense in RF except that he has a decent arm from what I remember. He also has an issue with his temper, but I can't forsee any team with Ortiz or Manny on it having a problem with angry guys. SO if you want a name other than Drew who was available last year. Guillen definetely is someone who at least had comparable power numbers.
  9. shrug, hughes last year probably generated as much interest if not more.
  10. I actually heard 400M over 10 years on the radio this morning.
  11. I would look at it with interest if the minor league pitcher was an excellent prospect and had a great year in AAA or AA
  12. I would do Hughes + Duncan + Tabata + another minor league pitcher. I think the Twins would probably look at that with some interest. I'm not opposed to trading Hughes since Johan isn't that old.
  13. the only thing I have to say to your caveat is Pedro for Carl Pavano and Tony Armas
  14. I wouldn't drop $30M on him, maybe $25M. I wouldn't be shocked if we gave him $30M, I mean technically we gave Roger $28M, any decent agent will use that as leverage.
  15. and I doubt he will sign that extension offer, thereby forcing the Twins to deal him or lose him in FA and getting the draft picks. I must point out that I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins went in either direction.
  16. nods Torre managed pretty well in the postseason, and was clearly a huge reason why we were able to recover from that horrendous start. The knock on Torre is that while that passive attitude is very good for a 162 game season where you have time to work the kinks out and for everyone to get the message, it's not so great in the postseason where you live and die in a much much shorter timespan.
  17. I think you have to consider that the Twins are owned by the biggest misers in baseball who favor the bottom line over winning. Also, I'm not sure how smart their FO will be without Ryan.
  18. I don't want him if he opts out. If he opts out, we'd have to spend almost $60M just to sign three players (ARod, Jorgie, Mo), I think that's too much even for the Yanks. Not to mention that that $30M could be better spent in '09 when Johan becomes available
  19. Man bernie and Derek are like 1-2 in a lot of postseason categories
  20. ugh, 2 attempts against that Johnny Bench clone
