  1. I would love to have Luis Matos, I remember that catch he made to rob Ortiz of a home run, and he's not a bad hitter. Only in his 6th year.
  2. Some better news, I hope; SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada is "more upset'' with the Baltimore Orioles because they haven't gotten stronger in the offseason than with the team not fulfilling his trade request. "Now, I am more upset than when I requested the trade because it's been a month and they haven't done anything,'' Tejada told The Associated Press on Thursday. Tejada, who is entering the third year of a $72 million, six-year contract, said three weeks ago that he wanted a "change of scenery.'' On Thursday, the disgruntled All-Star said he was upset by the Orioles' failure to make trades that would strengthen the team. "I don't want to say anything bad that can hurt my teammates, but look at Toronto, they have strengthened themselves and we haven't done anything,'' said Tejada, who hit .305 last season with 26 homers and 98 RBI. The Orioles and free agent outfielder Jeromy Burnitz agreed on a two-year contract Wednesday, pending the results of a physical, a team source told the AP. The team will pay the former Chicago Cubs right fielder between $10 million and $12 million. The 36-year-old Burnitz hit .258 with 24 homers and 87 RBI with the Cubs last season. Baltimore also reached a preliminary agreement with free agent Jeff Conine on a $1.7 million, one-year contract. Conine, who played in Baltimore from 1999-03, needs to pass a physical for the deal to be finalized. Tejada noted that division rivals New York and Toronto made moves to improve. The Yankees acquired outfielder Johnny Damon and the Blue Jays signed closer B.J. Ryan, starting pitcher A.J. Burnett and third baseman Troy Glaus. "If the Orioles don't do anything, I want them to trade me because I am tired of losing,'' Tejada said before a winter league game. If he isn't traded by the Orioles, Tejada said he would "respect the game as I have always done.'' "I am not asking for a team of superstars, I only want a good group that helps me to win,'' he said. Tejada also responded to comments made by former teammate Rafael Palmeiro, who tested positive for steroids. Palmeiro has said Tejada gave him vitamin B-12 earlier this year, and suggested it might have been tainted with performance-enhancing drugs. "Everyone knows that vitamin B-12 doesn't do anything bad,'' Tejada said. "I am not upset with Palmeiro, but enough speaking about that already,'' he said. 3. With his stuff and if he stays healthly, he's definately a 300 game winner.
  4. Seattle has to be on crack bigtime to do that deal. Lester and Paps together aren't as good as King Felix. Felix is 19 years old, and the Mariners wouldn't trade a fan favorite and a sure 300 game winner for a HOF hitter and a pitcher that's pitching 22.3 great innings.
  5. I'd trade McPherson and keep Marte.
  6. Oh,I gotcha now, but you were scaring me there man before.
  7. Too Huge? Please tell me I didn't read that. I love your avatar 24RedSox.
  8. You know Mark Loretta personally? (The Rock look)
  9. Yeah I agree with Preston Wilson.
  10. We can add a second rate prospect or something. Another idea is if you want to get really creative is a major trade; Pads Gets; David Wells Bronson Arroyo Matt Clement Abe Abverlez Boston Gets; Khalil Greene Chris Young Scott Linebrink
  11. Schilling Wake Beckett Millwood Chris Young-From the Pads for Wells
  12. Haha, thanks man.
  13. We could add whichever one the Nats don't want, Youk or Arroyo.
  14. Come on man, if you're going to use me in your posts, please get my name right. Its C-A-R-T-E-R, not C-A-R-E-T-R.

  16. The Orioles remain in trade talks with several teams about Miguel Tejada, but as of now, no team has matched the club's asking price for the disgruntled All-Star shortstop. According to team and industry sources, the most serious discussions the Orioles are having about Tejada appear to be with the Chicago Cubs, who are dangling a package that includes standout right-handed pitcher Mark Prior. According to industry sources, however, the Cubs want Orioles left-hander Erik Bedard included in the deal and don't want to trade top outfield prospect Felix Pie, whom the Orioles covet. The Orioles also are slightly wary of Prior's recent history of elbow troubles and would prefer obtaining Carlos Zambrano, but the Cubs reportedly have no interest in trading him. As of now, according to a source with knowledge of the trade talks, the two teams are not yet close to an agreement despite several proposals being sent back and forth. Cubs second baseman Todd Walker, center fielder Corey Patterson and 25-year-old left-handed pitching prospect Rich Hill have also been mentioned in a deal, but the Orioles aren't enthralled with Walker or Patterson. Walker would essentially be a bench player with All-Star Brian Roberts entrenched at second base, and Patterson struggled mightily last season and would not seem to constitute that big of an upgrade over Luis Matos, whose status as the Orioles' everyday center fielder is in jeopardy. The Orioles and Cubs have been in discussions for several weeks and have even gotten several teams involved in the trade talks. According to two industry sources, there was some preliminary discussion between the Orioles, Cubs and Oakland Athletics on a three-way deal that included Tejada, Bedard, Prior and Oakland ace Barry Zito among others heading to new homes. Prior and Zito were the centerpieces of the package coming to the Orioles in the early talks. But at this point, the A's asking price for Zito appears to be sky-high, and the Orioles wouldn't be interested in obtaining the left-hander in a deal unless they can sign him - this is his contract year - to a long-term deal and that appears unlikely. The Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels also reportedly have interest in Tejada, though to this point, none has come close to matching the Orioles' asking price. The Orioles have no interest in trading Tejada within the division to the Red Sox, but it is not impossible, according to a team source, that the club could get Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez in a three- or four-team deal without trading Tejada to Boston. The Orioles are interested in White Sox right-hander Jon Garland, who is a free agent after this season, and had some talks with Chicago last week in a deal that didn't include Tejada, according to industry sources. However, the White Sox wanted Bedard, instead of pitching prospects in the deal, and the Orioles balked. Despite telling several teammates, including Brian Roberts and Ramon Hernandez, that his public demand for a "change of scenery" earlier this month was said out of frustration and he didn't want to leave Baltimore, Tejada's representation has told the Orioles recently that the former MVP still wants a trade. The Orioles clearly want to keep the shortstop but seem to be at least willing to deal him if the price is right. However as of now, it appears that Tejada will remain an Oriole at least through Christmas.
  17. The Red Sox took a hit from their fan base for not coughing up the money to keep Johnny Damon, but there were signs yesterday the team was recovering by trying to put together a deal for a big bat and another big-name starter. Troy Glaus, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ slugging third baseman, has been the focus of recent trade talks between the clubs. However, the Sox are not the only team interested in Glaus, whose fly ball power stroke makes him a natural fit for 20-30 home runs a season at Fenway Park. The Sox want him as a first baseman. The Blue Jays were believed to be furthest along in talks with the Diamondbacks last night, but according to one executive who recently spoke with former Red Sox assisant GM and current Arizona GM Josh Byrnes, “I think he’s going to Boston, that’s what it sounds like.” As tempting as Glaus might be, there were indications that the primary focus now is obtaining another pitcher first. That brings in free agent starter Kevin Millwood. Signing Millwood would allow the Sox to trade one of three starters - David Wells, Matt Clement or Bronson Arroyo - possibly in a Glaus deal or in some other configuration. A deal for Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada remains a longshot, especially with the Orioles more focused on swapping Tejada for Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior. That deal is alive but currently involves just two teams. Exactly what the Diamondbacks were looking for in return from the Sox was unclear, although if the Sox were willing to assume the bulk of the $32.5 million remaining on Glaus’ deal for the next three years, the cost in players may not be as high as one would think. Team president and CEO Larry Lucchino said Wednesday at Fenway Park that the Sox would “redeploy” the dollars slated for Damon. The $40 million they had allotted for Damon for four years certainly would cover Glaus, 29, who had 37 homers last season for Arizona. However, it would not address the Sox’ glaring need for a center fielder, leadoff hitter and shortstop.
  18. TAMPA - With the Red Sox Nation in upheaval about losing the bidding war over one of the faces of its franchise - center fielder Johnny Damon - to the rival Yankees, the Rays continued their trade talks with the Red Sox on Thursday that could send shortstop Julio Lugo and possibly center fielder Joey Gathright to Boston. The new Rays brass has never been in a hurry to rush a trade. Instead they have patiently waited while big-money teams - like Boston - shell out money to fill their holes via free agency instead of doling out prospects in the trade market. But that's why the Rays are in the trade market - to get high-level major-league prospects for current players with one year remaining on their contracts. And the Red Sox are in need of a center fielder, shortstop and leadoff hitter. With the market on talent at those positions running low, the Sox are running out of quality options. While it is unlikely the teams will get a deal done by Christmas, the Rays are continuing negotiations with several other teams, especially concerning Gathright. The Marlins continue to be the most likely trade partner for the speedy center fielder, especially since Florida traded center fielder Juan Pierre to the Cubs, and the Dodgers - another suitor - acquired Kenny Lofton this week. Despite the fact the Rays acquired third baseman Sean Burroughs during the winter meetings this month, the team is still interested in newly acquired Red Sox third baseman Andy Marte, who came to Boston from Atlanta for Edgar Renteria. The Rays were close to acquiring Marte - tabbed the top prospect in the Braves organization - in a proposed three-team trade that would have sent Lugo to Boston.
  19. No Glaus isn't that big of a deal. Manny has said that he would gladly go to Seattle to escape Boston. My thoughts are if he wants to go to Seattle of all places, let him go there. Seattle: Manny R. Matt Clement Abe Abverlez Boston: Richie Sexson Raul Ibanez Jeremy Reed Then we trade Wells for Chris Young, straight up. Then we trade Trot Nixon and Youk/Arroyo for Ryan Church and Jose Vidro and have Vidro play 2b while Loretta plays SS. Opening Day Lineup Loretta-SS Vidro-2b Ortiz-DH Sexson-1b Lowell-3b Ibanez-LF Tek-C Church-RF Reed-CF SP Beckett Wake Schilling Young Paps BP Foulke-CL Seanz-SU,Cl Mota-SU,CL Timlin-MR Hansen-MR Dinaro-MR Lefty, Long Reliver(gets replace by Lester, is just Lefty) Lester-Long Reliver, Alt. SP when he comes up(after All-Star break) Back Ups Cora-2b,SS Marte-3b, could learn to play 1b too(as a backup) Stern-4th OF Moss-5th OF, when he comes up after All-Star break Hucklby/Flatery-C Trade Youk/Arroyo(whichever one is left over) for pitching prospects. I don't know why I do this, its kinda fun for me, any comments?
  20. I don't know if anybody cares, but all four guys on Around the Horn said the Mark Prior/Miguel Tejada trade wouldn't happen.
  21. This Glaus thread is about to be over; http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2270112
  22. No it wasn't the same situation with Wells. The Yankees had already shipped him of to Toronto for the Rocket and after that he was a jourey man. Its not like he just finished playing the Yankees and had to make a decision. The Yankees tossed him around like he was nothing and so he signed with the Sox. We didn't treat Johnny like that, he's just an ******* and went with the money.
