  1. Cy Young was the fattest sox player by far. No clue what I'm eating tomorrow, I probably won't eat, just playing the wii.
  2. Runelvys has good stuff, he just also always has arm problems too. Its a minor league contract though, so it carries absolutely zero risk and he did have something like a 2.88 ERA in september or something. If he sucks and never throws a pitch in the majors again, none of us will ever think of this signing again because it doesn't really tie up very much cash. If, by some chance, he explodes and ends up being able to pitch in the majors pretty well, we'll all talk about what a great garbage heap pick up he was. In order to get lucky with the Aaron Small's and Shawn Chacon's off the garbage heap, you have to actually make some signings and trade for guys who you might not neccesarily acquire with good hopes of them panning out and then it takes luck. Who knows, maybe Schilling goes down for the count and Runelvys ends up being a hero. Wouldn't shock me. Stranger things have happened.
  3. With our rotation and that line up, get us a closer and we may just win the division. That is a very nice line up. Youk, Lowell and Pedroia play some very nice D, as does Drew. This is going to be a fun season.
  4. Yeah, gotta say, he probably isn't any better than breslow. I think if used in certain situations he could be effective but the same can be said about Breslow. Personally, I'd rather see Nick Debarr make this team than JC Romero. I'd like to hope that just because he has played at the ML level doesn't mean he gets the job or even an edge. He should be on a try out basis.
  5. Alright, so here is what happened. My friend Bentley and I were sitting in his room when the news came on that Daisuke had arrived at Hanscom and was headed to Mass General. So we decide to go down, just to see if we could see his car or something. So we walk all the way there and we decided to actually try to find him in the hospital (bad idea). At first we went as a group to try to find the MRI. No luck, so we split up. Tony and I took one half of the hospital and Swill and Bentley the other half. There aren't really any maps of the hospital, the place is just color coded, probably to prevent people from doing exactly what we were doing. Tony and I didn't walk long until we were at Founder's MRI. Ok, so this was weird, if this wasn't Dice-K, someone important was getting an MRI because as soon as we walked into the hallway about four or five sharply dressed dudes and a fat guy in a windbreaker just stared at us and stopped talking. Two security guards dressed up a little bit came from opposite ends of the hall and sandwhiched Tony and I and they weren't happy to see us. They threw us out, told us if they saw us again we'd be arressted. Naturally, we stayed. We walked outside to the entrance which was now crowded by about 100 japanese media members. We talked with them for awhile and they took some drunken pictures of Bentley and I and quoted me saying some line of praise for Matsuzaka. Nothing ridiculous though. Then this car drives up and tells the only American guy with a camera something and drives off. So i followed the American guy who was making a B-line somewhere. He walked into the hospital, the cops stopped me, so I told a couple of the Japanese guys I had been talking to where the dude went, so they followed him and apparently saw D-Mat going into the hospital around the back way. After awhile they were back near the entrance again. More drunken pictures and then eventually the cops ended the fun telling us to leave or be arrested. Naturally, we stayed. We watched from across the street being entertained by this drunk guy who just walked up to us and started talking about the Celtics. I guess all the Sox jerseys were a dead give away that we must all be basketball fans. He comes up to us and says " What do you say Danny Ainge goes over the Kevin McHale and sucks his dick for Kevin Garnett?" This guy was a blast. We talked to him for about an hour. Hilarious. We stayed until Matsuzaka left, which was missed by virtually everyone except us. We spotted that blue SUV he was in around back and we figured something was up with it since it was actually parked partially in a building. We didn't see them get in, but we saw them drive off with a police escort. Cool enough I guess. All in all very successful. On the way back we called back to the dorms to tell them we were arrested and needed to be bailed out. They bought it, hook line and sinker and freaked out. Not a popular move, they were pissed when we showed up back at school. Oh well, funny for me.
  6. So we heard he was going to mass general hospital. Being college students with NOTHING to do, so did we. I think I got within a few hundred feet of him in founders MRI center and my friend Tony and I got surrounded by some heavy security and thrown out. We went outside and mingled with media when we got our second warning to get out. We stayed anyways talking to media members and we saw him drive away. Night to remember, I'll type the whole story out in detail later.
  7. Toss up, Mo and Jeter. Love both of them. Mariano laughing at the home opener at fenway because of all the applause he got was great
  8. Well, I still think its the kind of scenario where once the bid gets accepted the possibility of a deal not getting done is almost zero. EVERYTHING favors a deal getting done. Daisuke doesn't want to miss the pay day and go back to Japan for two seasons ( does anyone know if a player can be posted twice? I think not, but I'm not sure ) I fully expect a deal to get done and it makes sense that one would be annouced monday because he is coming to boston for the weekend.
  9. I don't know, thats not an entirely unfair deal. It might be alittle slanted, but Coco and a decent minor leaguer might do it. I don't know if the sox will look into it. They should, I really am not married to the idea of lugo coming here and getting an inexpensive player like hall would help us keep manny. We might be able to have him and drew in the same OF and avoid a luxury tax.
  10. I would trade Coco for Bill Hall.
  11. A Rotation doesn't need a lefty, a bullpen does. Especially in Fenway its probably a good idea to keep lefties out of our rotation. Don't tell that to Bill Lee and David Wells though...
  12. mmm... no. I think Papelbon projects to be a litttle bit better than that.
  13. I highly doubt the sox get michael young. I hope Pedroia does win the 2B job though
  14. Borowski is ok. Nothing flashy, but I wouldn't mind the Sox signing him as a 2nd set up option. I think we need someone a little better than that to do the bulk of the 8th inning duties. The Sox need to pull a trade for a solid closer and bring in Baez off the market for the 8th inning. I think its doable. Wily Mo and Kottaras for Wheeler or Lidge could get us a closer. Maybe Wily Mo and Edgar Martinez.
  15. I was also drunk talksoxing. *high five* Don't ya hate it when your drunk and no one wants to play guitar hero with you?
  16. First of all, its bad manners to question anyones baseball knowledge out right on a baseball forum, makes you look like an ass. Second of all, I've never eaten sushi in my life. If you're going to be a jerk, you might as well be a jerk who can actually make a rebuttal rather than be an ******* with nothing to say. Go ahead, question what I know about baseball, when you don't even make a valid point in your post that shows who lacks in baseball knowledge just fine.
  17. It amazes me to see such low expectations from papelbon. That first post was way off. Even in his relief appearances Papelbon sometimes took a little off and threw in the low 90's. Its the movement and location that makes his fastball so dominant. As a started I expect him to be very good. I don't expect him to win us 20 games, I don't expect him to have a one-something era, but he will definetly be a solid 2nd tier starter this year. He is a good pitcher. Who is that other guy who throws mostly just fastballs and splitters on our team? Oh yeah... that Curt Schilling guy. And hes not that bad. His slider is pretty middle of the road, I would argue Papelbon has a better slider than curt. Paplebon will be a successful starter. I think Beckett has the chance to be an ace this year, I don't think that about Papelbon, but I can easily see Beckett and Papelbon both having ace-like seasons down the road.
  18. Wily Mo was also mentioned in Houston talks. Makes sense, but I think the Drew rumor is just that... a rumor.
  19. Then you don't understand Theo's philosophy. Theo didn't let them walk because of the dollar figure, he let them walk because of the risk compared to the cost. Damon and Pedro were approaching their mid 30's. For the most part, past their prime.
  20. I've begun hosting my own sports show on my college's radio station. Anyone can tune in from anywhere on the internet at: http://www.live365.com/stations/ecr Our first couple shows are probably going to be rusty since neither of us have ever been on the radio before. Nothing flashy probably for a couple weeks, just straight sports talk from 3PM to 4PM every wednsday. Eventually we will get flashy, with small sounds bytles etc. and likely we will end up being on more frequently. Our first show goes on the air at 3PM today. You can't call in, however, if you have AIM you can IM JASportsTalk or EmmanuelRadio if you have something you want us to talk about. TUNE IN!
  21. Moving this, but welcome to the boards, dude.
  22. Well, cora isn't going to start. His bat doesn't matter, if anything he provides offense because if someone like Gonzo gets up in a big spot, we can pull him in favor of a bat and have a very apt replacement waiting for him in Cora late in the game.
  23. Cora provides great depth. Anyone who claims this as bad signing didn't watch the sox last season. A smart, sure handed vet off the bench is huge. I'm psyched.
  24. I agree, lets not even try to develop arms, because clearly free agency provides plenty of alternatives. Or we could ask Koufax and Clemens if they don't mind making a DNA donation and we can use their genes to genitically engineer pitchers. We could grow them, like they grew people in the matrix. The ones that don't succeed we can kill and liquefy to feed to the ones still pitching, that way we aren't spending money on feeding them either. Huh? Kidding completely, Free Agency doesn't work anymore. Because of revenue sharing teams can extend their talent until their arms fall off. Not all of them will mature into major league pitchers, but in order to acquire pitching, you have to grow your own. Either keep it or trade it, but free agency ain't cuttin' it anymore.
