  1. Heard a great rumor the other day. Bud Selig is going to file for free agency as a SS and create a franchise to play on, then he is going to trade for the entire toronto blue jays major league team by freezing all their assets until they agree to give it away. Then he is going to sign Julio Lugo out of his own personal funds to play second base. The Sox get no one. The world ends. Per MLB Trade Rumors.
  2. What does that mean? Did I ever tout Youkilis as the future third basemen of the boston red sox? I like him, I think he is a good player. I like Spann too. I never proclaimed either the second coming of Wade Boggs. If you're looking to call me out, you have to do better than that. I hope you do too because I really don't want to watch the Pats right now, its sorry.
  3. Eh, the third basemen of the future is a label i reserve for guys who are special
  4. I think the Red Sox can afford a better corner guy than what Spann projects to be. He might never have as much value as he will this offseason. Totally hypothetical: but if the astros were interested and Spann could be part of a deal that brought us lidge or wheeler, you do that hands down.
  5. I think its a sell high situation with Spann.
  6. I agree about Damon. Gom, you rub me the wrong way sometimes but I'm going to take that as inevitable given your allegiance. You earned my respect by pointing out Damon might have a down year. *high five* Schilling very well might have a down year, but I have too much respect for Schilling to say that he will. His work ethic and his determination are enough for me to hold my judgement until I see him pitch in 07. This being his last season I believe he will have the best season his age will allow. I think Manny is going to have a down year. If he is still a Sox in 07, look for Manny to hit around .280 with 30ish homers more or less if he plays in a reasonable amount of games. Could possibly do worse than that. His age has to catch up with him eventually.
  7. I don't know. I think they were right not to make moves at the deadline. I'd rather keep my young talent then make an all out push for the playoffs by unloading them. I say that because I have such high hopes for 07 though, if the team doesn't go out and make moves to put us back into playoff contention this offseason than I probably agree with you. If they don't intend on spending, then I'll say maybe some of that young talent should be shipped or could have been, whatever you know what I'm getting at. I just finished a 500 pages novel that I started last night and I'm pretty out of it. Forgive my blah-ness.
  8. I don't think a #5 hitter was saving our season. Roy Oswalt may have, Bobby Abreu would have been too little too late.
  9. You don't want Bobby Abreu. You think you do, but you don't. If we had Abreu, we wouldn't be able to fill any of our pitching holes this offseason because Abreu is insanely expensive. You don't want to blow 15 million next year on an outfielder when you have one already and you need pitchers.
  10. I don't know. They have a surplus of young arms and they need a bat. Magglio cannot carry a team like Manny Ramirez. I think the Tigers do it, I think the Sox don't though. Bonderman has been in the major leagues too long with no big results for his "big stuff". I'd rather see the Sox deal Manny for Ervin Santana than Bonderman
  11. I second that.
  12. Gonzo should have won it. Chavez... can't really argue with that although Lowell was probably worthy too. Jeter is a f***ing disgrace of a selection and thats coming from a sox fan who loves Jeter.
  13. Correction: They don't always corrale it. These guys all have potential they won't all be difference makers, but they might be. My favorite is Bowden. I think he will do it. Given his age and his stuff. He will be big time.
  14. No, his D is that bad, but I think I'd entertain signing Soriano if I were Theo.
  15. There is already an offseason thread right here.
  16. Bagwell is also a mess. What is with the attraction to old hurting players? Carlos lee is available and I think the Sox should invest in him. Move Youk back to 3rd because he does have value, trade lowell for an RP. Its a nice series of moves.
  17. To get Young, we'd have to part with Bucholz or Bowden. I would rather let go of Bucholz, because I think Bowden is more advanced for his age and is the better long term investment. Bucholz most likely also has the most trade value, him crisp and hansen ABSOLUTELY bring Young in if he is on the block. I haven't read anywhere credible saying he is though.
  18. Kevin Millar in his best days hit .300+ and 20+ HR's. Thats nothing to balk at. Thank god you don't run the Sox. Mike Sweeney is a f***ing mess. He said he might even retire THIS offseason his injuries are so bad. You think KC doesn't have him in physical therapy? You think they don't watch his health? He is a mess. I personally would prefer sean casey or carlos lee. I don't care what competition there is for either we should be able to sign one.
  19. A gold gloving corner guy hitting around .280 with good extra bases like Lowell is going to have a lot of value, especially to NL teams like the dodgers or padres who could use an extra bat.
  20. This is probably a repeat, but if Timlin is signed on as a middle reliever, I think thats a very good move and would give us some depth. If Theo is counting on Timlin for the 8th inning duties... We'll be sitting here doing exactly what we have been doing again next october...
  21. I disagree. The offseason game plan should have nothing to do with Manny because he should stay right where he is. To me, it starts with the bullpen. Theo needs to be aggressive in bringing in bullpen help. Speier, lidge, and linebrink have been talked about. Speier I think is key. I don't know who else is out there off the top of my head but its not too too weak on the market this year. We need one starter doesn't have to be an ace, but it can't be another clement=esque disaster. If we get Matsuzaka, cool, but really Vincente Padilla gets the job done.
  22. He probably used the dirt to moisten his hands, in the cold they get dry it hurts your control a little bit. You can legally put dirt on your hands so long as you wipe it off. He probably didn't realize he didn't get it all off. I used to do that all the time.
  23. The only pitcher better than Halladay in the AL is that lefty guy in minnesota... whats his name? Well, there is a much bigger list of guys better than wang. Theyre in totally separate categories.
  24. What are you talking about? Youk did a solid job this year. Great glove and good enough with the bat. Excellent first half with the bat, hit a wall but it was his first season playing for that long. A drop off was to be expected.
