  1. I don't want to read any comparisons of major league baseball players and AAAA ball players
  2. The way I see it, we've beaten Chicago twice and split a series against a Toronto team who's almost in as big of a slide as we are. We still have to play much better baseball and the only reason we've had this recent marginal success is because Kyle Snyder, Julian Tavarez and Kason Gabbard have SOMEHOW pulled great outings out of their asses. Runs need to be produced because this rotation WILL get lit up and this bullpen WILL blow some late inning leads. We're not gonna get 10th inning walkoffs and hold on to 1-0 games for the rest of the season. All I'm saying is I still have a bit of faith, but this team won't do much the way they're still playing right now.
  3. I'd be more optimistic if our rotation didn't consist of Beckett, Gabbard, Snyder, Jarvis and Tavarez and if our lineup was actually producing runs. That being said, I'll keep at least some hope alive until we're mathematically eliminated but it still doesn't look good at all.
  4. nope, this year is definitely done
  5. thank god Boston isn't playing Pawtucket this weekend, we'd probably get swept
  6. and Tavarez throws nothing straight....bad example
  7. for the love of god, just win
  8. the bullpen's crap, I agree but theyve been taxed as hell lately too. But examine the rotation a bit. Schilling and Wells are doing the job. Wakefield is coming back. Beckett can and has strung a few good outings together. And we can get something from Lester.
  9. im hoping Foulke can be that arm
  10. f*** this man. after seeing '04 with my own two eyes, I swore to myself that I would never ever say anything is impossible in sports again and being out of a playoff spot by a handful of games with 39 left to play damn sure isnt nearly as bad as October '04 looked. buck up, RSN. get behind this team again cause I sure as hell aren't ready to shift focus to football already. IT AINT OVAH
  11. you didnt even have hair on your nuts the last time the yankees won the series, you lush. say what you want, but dont argue the facts: winning 4 straight in October and slapping history in the face > winning 5 straight in August with 39 games to play
  12. By keeping the 2004 team together, you tie a lot of money into rapidly declining bodies for a long period of time. Some of those decisions look bad right now (Damon, Pedro, even though Pedro is starting to break down) but some of those decisions look good (Millar, Mueller, who's career is probably over). A good front office realizes that to be competitive on a fixed budget, constant evolution has to take place. A decision has to be made to cut certain veterans loose, keep other veterans and bring in an influx of young talent. So far, this FO has done that by keeping a base of Schilling, Ortiz, Manny, Nixon, Wakefield, Varitek and easing in the new talent like Papelbon, Beckett, Crisp, Pena, Youkilis, Delcarmen, Hansen and Lester. And next season, the evolution will continue with Pedroia most likely taking over for Loretta and a platoon of Hinske and Pena taking over for Nixon. Part of me is tremendously disappointed in this year so far because of where the team was, and how far this team has fallen. But another part of me wonders how this team was ever really competitive considering the mess of the rotation (Schilling nonwithstanding) and the reliance of kids in the bullpen. Taking all that into account, you have to like what the future looks like. The kids will be experienced and there will be a tremendous amount of payroll flexibility.
  13. why the f*** couldnt we get Moyer instead of the Phils?
  14. I still see Beckett as being a very dangerous pitcher once he becomes a seasoned vet
  15. Hinske has been batting something like .314 at Fenway lifetime anyway, and in 39 games too so its fairly substantial
  16. He started the season platooning with Alex Rios in Toronto's right field so he can play the OF
  17. thats insane, Hinske has been my backup corner infielder in my MLB '06 The Show game for the past few months
  18. encouraging game tonight - Papi being papi - Coco's continued emergence - Wells could become just what the doctor ordered - Papelbon looking more like Papelbon
  19. 97, man that s*** is working tonight
  20. thatta boy, Coco thats some nice clutch hitting
  21. I swear, this team is scared to have a lead
  22. f*** yea, thank god for papi
  23. I ain't giving up yet. No way the bats can stay cold forever. The rotation could look good with Schilling, an improved Beckett, an emerging Wells (with a fresh arm I might add) and with Wakefield coming back soon KEEP THE FAITH!
  24. the organization has one responsibility, to win. there has only been one other champion since the Sox have won. most of the core of the championship team was around last year and we barely snuck into the playoffs and got annihilated in the first round. great organizations are ones that realize that to stay competitive, there has to be a constant evolution with the talent. it means saying goodbye to proven, aging players and welcoming in younger talent with all the ability in the world looking for a chance to prove themselves.
