  1. You need a #4 in a best of seven series
  2. Sabathia had an awful start to the year and they waited until he finally straightened out to trade him. Carmona went into the tank. Betancourt went into the tank. Perez wasn't as effective as he was last year. The bottom finally fell out completely on Borowski. Hafner was injured most of the year and sucked hard when he wasn't and Martinez was injured and had a MAJOR power outage. Literally the only guys who can say they had a good year were Sizemore, Shoppach and Lee
  3. ah New Zealand, the only place in the world where you can say you hate all blacks and not be called racist
  4. its a very nice story if the Phils win it although ill always wonder how they did it with such a s*** rotation behind Hamels
  5. and especially when the Yankees are gonna throw about $250-$300 million at free agents
  6. that's a great point. I think a lot of people are gonna be upset that the Sox aren't gonna make any changes just for change's sake
  7. I really dont see any drastic changes to the lineup. I can see Theo banking on an improved Ellsbury to be a catalyst for the offense as well as a rested and improved Ortiz to be all the changes he wants
  8. Because most of what Rosenthal, Olney, Heyman, Gammons etc. report leading up to the trade deadline and during the free agency period is a part of the negotiation tactics the agents use. Sometimes the insiders realize they're being played as pawns and sometimes team execs or agents float things out there just to see reactions, like Boras' "mystery team" thing he does for every big free agent. The best way to figure out where a guy is likely to go is to take a look at a GM's track record in how he likes to put together his team and what a team's particular needs are. I don't see the Sox getting a Sabathia, Sheets or Peavy despite what reports come out cause they have 3 top of the rotation guys already and Theo has never shown that he likes committing that many years and money to a single pitcher.
  9. FYI, the sports definition of a cancer is a guy whose attitude brings down the entire clubhouse, its unfair to use that term when talking about Wakefield, a guy who is the exact opposite of that. If you wanna call him a detriment, then go ahead but he isn't a cancer
  10. I'd say next year really is the make or break year for Buch. He's dominating the minors and doesnt seem like he has a whole lot left to learn there. He's gotta sack up and start doing it in the majors now
  11. He couldnt have been THAT upset considering he came back for the ring ceremony
  12. for the casual fan whose Sox fandom consists solely of watching the games
  13. Carl Pavano made $322,580 per IP this year
  14. Loewen is an interesting story, very Rick Ankiel-ish although he's coming off an injury instead of incompetence
  15. So that gives Manny the right to pull the s*** he did? He was being paid $20 mil a year to be heavily responsible for 2 world championships
  16. yea, im not really interested in a Manny Ramirez: Behind the Pine Tar investigative special
  17. I agree with you but his on-field performance is irrelevant. The only thing would take away his right to speak out about Manny is if he pulled some of the same s*** the f***bag did. Schilling wasn't associated with the team, really, in any way the past season other than being on the payroll and Schilling admitted as such. He has just as much right to an opinion as any columnist or message board poster.
  18. I guess the sun shines even on a dog's ass some days
  19. This is right alongside Schilling in 2004 but the sad thing is because this wasn't as visually dramatic and because the Sox lost, this will probably be forgotten soon enough.
  20. Absolutely ridiculous. Legend.
  21. Maddon is a pretty cocky bastard to pull Shields after 80 pitches
  22. By no means am I happy with Wakefield being the 4th starter and I don't think the FO would be either which leads me to believe that their plan is for him to be the 5th starter Wakefield gives you 10-12 wins with a low to mid 4s ERA. "Better than average" would mean your 5th starter would give you about 15-17 wins with a mid to high 3s ERA. How many teams have a 5th starter who can boast those stats? Wakefield remains one of the best 5th starters in baseball IMO
  23. Atlanta's GM came out today and said he won't trade any top prospects for Peavy
