  1. How can you include college hockey when Boston has about 185 universities?
  2. Compared to other American cities....sure. But that's like being the tallest midget. They're bandwagon fans just like in Boston, they were 18th last year. And Boston was 26th last year. 26TH!!!! For a supposed "very large hockey town". Cities like f***ing Miami and Atlanta were ahead of Boston. For the second, the Habs have been first or second in attendance every year this century....and we've only been good the last two years
  3. You went from "huge" to "very large" in a matter of one post. You're cracking sooner than I expected a poster of your caliber to.
  4. Boston can be a huge hockey town when the team is doing well which means it's not a huge hockey town and I don't blame you, it's a tough product to get on board with when the Sox, Pats and Celtics are all good. We sell out the biggest f***ing building in the NHL with astronomical ticket prices regardless of how well the team does, just like Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and St. Paul, those are true hockey towns. Hell, I went to a game at TD Banknorth two seasons ago and the Habs fans owned the place, the Bruins fans were non-existent. That doesn't happen in "huge hockey towns".
  5. what argument am I making? you guys outplayed the s*** out of us last night
  6. I dont think anyone is saying they should shut up but just cause theyre honest, doesnt mean theyre immune to criticism Rafael Palmeiro and Jason Giambi both took steroids. One lied about it and one was truthful about it, both are still ****bags for doing it IMO
  7. so how many guys realized Boston has a pro hockey team last night?
  8. A big reason, and perhaps the main reason, the Sox didn't win is because everytime the 3rd spot in the lineup came up, a guy who hit like a pitcher came up to bat. Something bugged me about Ortiz this season, he seemed to blame everything but himself for his struggles. Complaining about the wrist, complaining about balls and strikes, complaining about no Manny. Jason Bay did his job. Ortiz wanted Manny there hitting like he did in LA so he could pick up the slack when Ortiz left guys on base.
  9. Jason Bay didn't exactly pull and ARod in the playoffs
  10. If baseball team owners weren't making so much damn profit, I'd be more inclined to agree with the "Scott Boras is killing baseball" crowd. MLB team revenue in 2007 was $5.5 billion
  11. beats the hell out of Javy Vazquez...
  12. Fair enough, I don't think I have anything more to say on the subject
  13. True, but a pitcher should expect his major league defense to make the routine plays in the same way a hockey team forces the opposition to take shots from certain areas on the ice, trusting their goalie to make the routine save Fine, but Baltimore had a far more effective bullpen than California that year so should it be held against Palmer that his manager opted to turn games over to his very capable bullpen that year?
  14. I agree with 2007 as well, Sabathia rightfully won it. The lower H/9 is negated by the fact that Palmer had a lower WHIP. And the K/BB average ties directly to the insane amount of strikeouts he had cause going by the BB/9, Ryan allowed a full walk more and I've already given the Ryan camp the strikeout argument I've never paid much attention to the innings cause there are so many other factors to consider such as injury history, the manager and the bullpen. Ned Yost wouldn't have made Sabathia pitch so many innings in 2008 if he was staying with the team so should Sabathia be credited for that?
  15. My only point is that it was close either year, close enough that it could've gone to either Palmer or Ryan in '73 and Sabathia or Beckett in '07 that there wouldn't have been an outcry either year
  16. Yea but can you really argue that Ryan was robbed? Did the writer's perform a huge injustice to the history of the game by voting Jim Palmer over Nolan Ryan? I don't think so, just like you can't really argue Beckett was robbed last year
  17. Considering they'll more than likely have a lower payroll than they've had in several years, not all that shocking but commendable nonetheless I suppose
  18. Although Ryan doesn't have the playoff legacy of Schilling
  19. Fine but again, the Cy Young award goes to the most effective pitcher of that season, not the guy who got the fans out of their seats the most. And no one is bashing Nolan Ryan, his "ungodly natural stuff" was glorified by the fact that he is a first-ballot hall of famer
  20. I know, I read the SI article too but I can't help but remain skeptical
  21. his small frame and pitching motion wouldnt scare you?
